The Adoration Society Invites You

Come worship our Eucharistic Lord in the Exposed Blessed Sacrament during our 24-hour Adoration. We ask you to make a special commitment to come spend one hour a month on the 1st and/or 3rd Monday of the month. The Blessed Sacrament cannot be left unattended. While we welcome your presence before our Lord at any hour we are most in need of adorers at the following times:

1st Mondays of the month at

11:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Please email Deana [email protected] or text (949) 525-7092 to let me know if you can come and pray with our Good Lord.

Thank You from Your Brothers and Sisters in Peru The generosity of the St. Edward faithful has touched the lives of thousands of needy people in Piura, Peru, in many different ways. Through last year's Mission Coop program the second collection allowed us to implement our new nursing school with great resources like a lab, simulators, and micro-scopes. All of the nursing students enjoy some form of financial aid and are gratefully

pursuing their vocation of service and healing. Funds also provided a new classroom that will be serving 6th-grade students for decades to come. Also, free services at our pro-life office and our counseling center are offered to the poor throughout the year thanks to St. Edward. Finally, daily food packages are given to the most needy who come to our parish when they have found no aid elsewhere. The faithful here at Santisimo Sacramento Parish in Piura, Peru, are united in prayer, especially in the Eucharist, with all of you who have shown such compassion to us. We have seen the Gospel come alive through your good works. We thank you and pray that you be blessed by the Lord in your journey of faith. Rev. Joseph Uhen, Pastor Santisimo Sacramento Parish, Piura, Peru

ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND 8th Grade Studies Classic Literature Through Cross

Curricular Activities Each Fall, our eighth grade studies Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – not just in English Language Arts, but in several other classes resulting in a much deeper understanding of the novel. Some of the activities include: Felt-Making: In STEM lab, the students experience the

chemistry behind felt-making – and learn about the effects of mercury poisoning on hat makers and why the Mad Hatter was “mad.”

Painting the Roses: Students paint beautiful roses in art – similar to how the cards did in the novel.

Dying Flowers: In STEM lab, the students study capilary action by observing the effects of colored water on flowers.

The unit culminates with an Alice in Wonderland Tea Party where even more activities bring the classic tale to life. For instance, the PE team will teach the students how to play croquet, while the STEM teacher helps them understand the science behind tea. And since the author Lewis Carroll was a mathemetician, there will also be a logic station where learners will work together to master mind-bending challenges. Curiouser and curiouser!

October is Respect Life Month As Catholics we proclaim that human life is a precious gift from God; that each person who receives this gift has responsibilities toward God, self, and others; and that society, through its laws and social institutions, must protect and nurture human life at every stage of its existence. These beliefs flow from ordinary reason and from our faith's constant witness that "life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception" (Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, no. 51)—a teaching that has been a constant part of the Christian message since the apostolic age.

Please support Pennies From Heaven You can support life by donating to our diocesan Pennies from Heaven program. Simply take a baby bottle this weekend and return it next weekend filled with your donation.

On Sunday, October 7th, is our Diocese's 24th annual Pennies from Heaven Campaign. Please consider donating your coins and dollars to support local Respect Life shelters, clinics, and centers that give immediate and long-term care to Orange County women, men, and families in crisis. This year donations will support: Obria Medical Clinics (Mission Viejo, Santa Ana, Orange & Mobile Unit), Mary's Path Casa Teresa Vietnamese hotline Life Centers (Santa Ana and La Habra) Precious Life Shelter and Horizon Pregnancy Clinic Last year $265,447 was raised in the Diocese thanks to your efforts. Visit www.rcbo.org/penniesfromheaven to learn more about Pennies from Heaven or to donate electronically. Please join with the other parishes throughout the Diocese and donate today!

Father Brendan thanks everyone for abiding by the new parking rules in effect for the parish, as well as for making an effort to drive slower and obey traffic rules. Please remember to be respectful of our neighbors and avoid parking or dropping off anyone in the neighborhoods surrounding the parish and, instead, to park only on our parish property.

Altar Guild Volunteers Needed!

Altar Guild is the liturgical ministry whose volunteer members help prepare the church for the mass by performing duties such as washing the holy vessels and tidying up areas of worship. Although the time commitment is minimal (a couple of hours once a month), our services have a significant impact on the appearance of the church and in the performance of the mass ritual. If you have an interest in helping our faith community, please contact Gabrielle Kirkman [email protected] or (949) 683-1567. In addition, the linen group is looking for a few volunteers to wash 4 Altar Server albs once a month. Once the albs are retrieved from the church, light laundering is all that is needed at your home. If you have a few hours, once a month to help out, contact: Anne Stokes [email protected] or leave a message at cell (949) 500-6702.

Ushers Needed for Weekend Masses Please prayerfully consider serving as an usher at the weekend Mass you normally attend. Whether you’re single or a couple, male or female, you are needed and can choose to serve once a month or more often.

Ushers welcome and help seat parishioners and visitors, collect and present the gifts, open doors, dis-tribute bulletins, and provide assis-tance to those in the congregation. If you are willing to

serve or have questions, please see a lead usher at Mass or the website for an usher application. Addi-tional questions, please contact Maria Whelan (949) 233-8288 [email protected]
