Jessica Mancillaz, Senior
She received a 1,000.00 4-H Scholarship through the Iowa 4-H Foundation to help support her
higher education career.
Nalleli Nava-Tellez (Sophmore) received a leadership
opportunity through 4-H. She was the first Latina, female,
from Iowa to participate in the 4-H National Conference in
Washington DC. Nalleli had the opportunity to share issues on
health in from of NIFA representatives. Also, she was
able to share with state representatives and senators
many of the youth concerns in Iowa, as well as reminders of changing demographics in the
state.
First year we had participation from
Marshall County to the 4-H state camp , UJIMA.
A camp designed to support leadership
opportunities to Asian, African and Middle
Easter youth populations in Iowa. As a result of this, the club was able to include tis population as part of
the club as well.
Javier Nunez (Senior), Jocelin Sharfnejda and Fatima Perez-Negrete
(Junior), had the opportunity to come along Extension and
Council professionals to the Iowa Extension Council Association
Legislative Day and learn more about state politics.
FAFSA and college sign up workshop was
offered to all seniors in the club and open to
ALL students outside of the club. Leaders
shared their specialties on college readiness. Joan Jaimes from the
Department of Education also shared FAFSA information to students and parents
present.
Hae Tha Lay Paw is one of our weekly volunteers for
the Family nutrition sessions at a local Karen church. She is assisting 4-H at delivering
STEM programing to the kids while their parents learn
about health, nutrition and physical education.
Gabriela Mancillaz (freshman), had a
leadership opportunity through 4-H. She attended
the 4-H National Health Summit in Washington DC. She was the first freshman, Latina from Central Iowa to
attend this specific summit. She had the opportunity to share
different health initiatives with 4-Hers from all over
the country.
Jazmin Ibarra (Senior) and Daisy Lopez (Junior) had
the opportunity to become co-leaders for a new STEM
4-H Club (Pequenos Genios) created at the Woodbury Elementary school. They
both assist the main leaders, to help and
support the club. This opportunity is giving them both leadership skills to be better citizens and leaders.
