Coastal Clean-Up on TEAM Energy’s Sual Shores

This is a joint project of Environmental and PR Sections with Volunteerism Initiatives of Mirant (VIM) employee volunteers and was carried out for the first time during the celebration of the International Coastal Clean-up Day. CENRO tapped Mirant Philippines-Sual Power Station and with them are representatives from CENRO, Pangascasan Barangay Council, Federation of Sual Multi-Purpose Cooperatives, Hundred Islands Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Red Cross, Hundred Islands Cycling Club, Great Plebeian College, and AMA Computer Center. The group joined hand and hand in cleaning up the coast of the power plant’s host barangay-Pangascasan to Baquioen. The activity is also in line with Mirant’s goal of creating sustainable programs on environmental stewardship headed by its employee volunteers in partnership with the people of the host municipality.

After the coastal clean up last September 2002, seven truckloads of non-bi d d bl t tl l ti t k t f th h li D i th

biodegradable waste, mostly plastics, were taken out of the shoreline. During the wrap-up ceremony, the volunteers from these various sectors expressed their willingness to join other environmental projects in the future. The Coastal Clean up also resulted to a resolution on addressing proper solid waste disposal for the increasing fish cage owners.
