Jerry Franklin’s LegacyThroughout his career, Jerry Franklin understood the power and promise of public media to serve learners of all ages. As the visionary behind the mega-hit Barney & Friends, he saw the potential in a purple dinosaur and launched a national phenomenon. Locally, Jerry designed the Learning Lab at Connecticut Public where high school and college students and adult learners have access to classroom, studio space and cutting-edge equipment all supported by Emmy-award winning instructors. As a veteran himself, Jerry championed the creation and support of a comprehensive program for service members to receive advance training in the media arts and digital production.

The Franklin Visionary Idea FundIn recognition of his contributions, CT Public is initiating a fund dedicated to fostering the type of game-changing ideas that have characterized Jerry Franklin’s career. “The Franklin Visionary Idea Fund” will support the advancement of innovative ideas that contribute to Connecticut Public’s mission to inform, educate and inspire the people of Connecticut. Proceeds from this event to The Franklin Visionary Idea Fund will honor Jerry Franklin’s legacy in children’s programming and educational offerings for students, veterans and lifelong learners.
