He has worked with Julie Andrews, Placido Domingo and John Denver all at the same time, and once found himself (for TV) singing Christmas music on horseback at 8.30 am on a freezing October morning beside a lake in Yorkshire - wearing a monk's habit (don't ask!) As a conductor you might expect to find that he has performed at the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and St John's Smith Square (and you would be right). He has also directed performances at St Paul's Cathedral, St Mark's Venice, and the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Less likely venues include St Pancras station, a Belfast shopping mall, and underground caves in Slovenia: not forgetting the performance of Mussorgsky's 'Night on a Bare Mountain' with full symphony orchestra on a beach in Jamaica. Did he break the world record for conducting the largest number of participants in Benjamin Britten's "Noye's Fludde" at Alexandra Palace in 2009? There were certainly several zoos’- worth of children…. Jeremy's compositions have been performed in concert halls around the world, and he was recently surprised to discover that his music has even reached the silver screen. His arrangement of Bach's 'Bist du bei mir' is featured on the French film 'Polisse', which won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011. Inspired by Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of music, thisaptly named chamber choir of thirty mixed voices hasbeen gracing the musical scenes of this country andabroad for thirty three years. Although the choir arebased in Leicester, many of its members travel anextraordinary number of miles to join their MusicDirector, Jeremy Jackman for his all day Saturdayworkshops, together with intervening rehearsals takenby their Assistant Music Director. All members havehad wide experience of choral singing and many alsohave a high reputation as soloists

Their broad repertoire includes music from theRenaissance to the present day, with new workswritten especially for them by contemporarycomposers, including Jeremy Jackman. Well knowncelebrities who have shared the concert platform withthe Cecilians include The Temperance Seven, EmmaJohnson and John Lenehan, Emma Kirkby andAnthony Rooley, Peter Skellern, The CambridgeBuskers, Fairer Sax and Black Dyke Brass Band.Other guests have included East Midlands musicians -the saxophonist Alistair Parnell, Emma Pountney,Clarinet, Antony Clare, Piano, Queen's Park Sinfoniaand saraBande Orchestra and the accompanists JohnKeys, Neville Ward, Roger Bryan and Andrew King.

Over the years, the choir has toured NorthernGermany, Northern Italy, Belgium, Spain, Paris, Austriaand the Czech Republic. They recently returned froma very successful tour of Tuscany which includedconcerts in the Duomo di San Martino, Lucca, St.Mark's English Church, Florence and La Cattedrale deiSanti Pietro e Francesco, Massa.

The Singers owe much of their acclaim to the quality ofMusic Directors past and present. For the early yearsthey were guided by Malcolm Goldring and Brian Kayand for the past twenty-seven years, they havecontinued to thrive under the direction of JeremyJackman. However, the success wouldn't be possiblewithout the dedication and commitment of the thirtymembers themselves.

Details of the Singers' CD's and further informationabout the choir are available on their website:
