  • IntroductionUpdate and Deployment Considerations

Hardware SupportedAlthough FliteDeck Pro is supported on all iPads except first generation iPads, older devices that run on 32-bit technology, such as 2nd, 3rd, or 4th generation iPads, might experience slower than expected performance. The iPad Air and iPad Mini 2, and later, are recommended devices.

Jeppesen has tested FliteDeck Pro 2.7 for compatibility with the following operating systems and devices:

    Update and Deployment Considerations

FliteDeck Pro is released through available Apple distribution models. Only one version of the app can be downloaded to the iPad at a time.

    Initial Download and Data Updates

The FliteDeck Pro app and data, including subsequent data updates, requires 2 to 6 GB of available storage capacity on the iPad. The variability in the storage capacity requirement is related to the size of the terminal charts coverage area.

    ModelOperating System

    iPad Air 2 9.1, 9.2

    iPad Mini 3 9.1, 9.2

    iPad Mini 2 9.1, 9.2

    iPad Air 9.1, 9.2

  • IntroductionUpdate and Deployment Considerations

After you download FliteDeck Pro 2.7, you might need to go to Profile settings and verify that Jeppesen Sanderson, Inc. is a trusted developer on your iPad. See Verifying That the App is from a Trusted Developer for instructions.

Updating to FliteDeck Pro 2.7 from a Version Prior to Version 2.5.7

If you updated to FliteDeck Pro 2.5.7, you have already performed this procedure and do not need to do so again.

At version 2.5.7, FliteDeck Pro introduced new enroute and cultural data to improve usability. As a result, you were required to re-download enroute and cultural data with the update of the FliteDeck Pro 2.5.7 app. See FliteDeck Pro 2.5.7 Release Notes for detailed information on what was new with that release.

If you did not update to FliteDeck Pro 2.5.7 and are updating to FliteDeck Pro 2.7 from a version prior to version 2.5.7, note the following:

    • The re-download of enroute and cultural data is required and necessitates the syncing of the new data to your existing downloaded terminal charts.

    • FliteDeck Pro automatically commences the download of enroute and cultural data upon updating the app. The Update screen displays Download in progress and the update status bars for each data type is blue until the download is complete.

    • The time necessary to download and perform the enroute data update depends on the speed of the Internet connection and the size of your coverage area. Allow for the necessary time to complete the update before you commence the update procedure.

NOTE Updating from FliteDeck Pro 2.1 to FliteDeck Pro 2.7 is not supported. A clean install is required to migrate from FliteDeck Pro version 2.1 to version 2.7.

  • IntroductionUpdate and Deployment Considerations

Verifying That the App is from a Trusted Developer

After you download FliteDeck Pro 2.7, you might be required to access iPad Profile settings and verify that Jeppesen Sanderson, Inc. is a trusted developer on your iPad. To do so:

    1. Tap the iPad Settings icon.

    2. Tap General.

    3. Tap Profile.

    4. Tap the Jeppesen Sanderson, Inc. fly-out.

    5. Tap Trust Jeppesen Sanderson, Inc.

    6. Tap Trust to confirm.

    What is Preserved When Updating

When FliteDeck Pro is updated from one version to another, the app preserves the following information:

    • Customized JeppFD global settings under user control, including registration and account information

    • Saved flights

    • User waypoints

    Automatic App Updates

Beginning with iOS 7, Apple offers an automatic update feature for apps. When an iPad is fully charged and connected to the Internet, it downloads and installs free app updates without requiring any interaction from the user. You can prevent automatic updates, for example to avoid interruption during critical phases of flight."

    5

  • IntroductionConnectivity Considerations

    Preventing Automatic App Updates

You might want to prevent automatic FliteDeck Pro updates to avoid downloading at an inopportune time.

    To disable background app updates:

    1. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store.

    2. Under Automatic Downloads, ensure that Apps is set to OFF.

    Connectivity Considerations

    On the Ground

iPads have both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technologies built in. Wi-Fi enables an internet connection, and Bluetooth enables a connection to nearby devices. If an iPad is enabled for cellular service, the iPad can connect anywhere that the cellular service is available.

FliteDeck Pro requires a reliable Wi-Fi or cellular Internet connection to download updates. To share flight information between two iPads running FliteDeck Pro, the devices use the Bluetooth connection.

    In the Air

All models of iPads that are 3rd generation or newer have built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The internal iPad GPS receiver uses Wi-Fi signals and nearby cellular towers to triangulate position so that the iPad can quickly find its position.

Although the iPad GPS receiver works well and provides good GPS accuracy, it might not be reliable in all flight decks while airborne. You can opt for an external GPS device to work with the iPad as a backup.

    1. From the list of displayed clearances, tap the desired clearance to select it.

    2. Tap the Save button.

FliteDeck Pro updates your list of saved flights with the route.

Display of a VFR Enroute Theme

You work in the new VFR theme in the same way that you are accustomed to working in the High IFR and Low IFR themes. You create a new flight; search for, filter, and view enroute objects; and switch between map orientations (North Up or Track Up) in the same way.

The available enroute themes are as follows:

    • High IFR Provides aeronautical information for enroute instrument navigation facilitating operations generally above FL180.

    • Low IFR Provides aeronautical information for enroute instrument navigation facilitating operations generally below FL180.

    • VFR Provides aeronautical information for conducting flight under visual conditions in the United States and parts of Europe. See VFR Aeronautical Data Coverage Areas for more information.

NOTE To display the VFR enroute theme, ensure that Display VFR Theme is set to ON in JeppFD-Pro global settings.

As in previous versions of FliteDeck Pro, to switch between enroute themes, from the Enroute view:

    1. Tap the Enroute Theme button.

    2. Tap your preferred enroute theme.

When you switch between enroute themes and a route object is not included in the theme that you switch to, FliteDeck Pro displays that object as a standard waypoint on the enroute map.

For example, if you add a VFR checkpoint to your route from the VFR enroute theme, and then switch to the Low IFR enroute theme, FliteDeck Pro displays the checkpoint with a standard waypoint symbol.

When you switch back to the VFR enroute theme, FliteDeck Pro displays the VFR checkpoint symbol and label.

  • IntroductionAccess to Engine-Out Charts

    Access to Engine-Out Charts

On the rare occasion an engine failure occurs, FliteDeck Pro now provides you with a quick means of navigating to the engine-out (E/O) chart.

Engine-out charts are company-specific, and reside within the company (CO) chart category.

Engine-out charts are directly related to, and used in conjunction with, specific departure procedures and, on rare occasions, approach procedures. FliteDeck Pro 2.7 identifies the presence of engine-out charts for departure procedures only.

To associate an engine-out chart with a SID:

    1. After entering your route, tap the SID button from the list of chart types in the Terminal Charts view.

FliteDeck Pro displays a list of departures for that airport.

    2. Select the desired SID chart.

    3. If an engine-out chart is present for the airport, FliteDeck Pro displays the Associate Engine-Out Chart popover.

QNE and QNH Boundary Labels May be Reversed

Issue: Under certain conditions, QNE and QNH boundary labels can be reversed which resulted in the wrong value displaying on each side of the boundary.

Resolution: The boundary label is no longer reversed. Values appear on the correct sides of the boundary label.

Show Taxi On Landing Triggered Erroneously

Issue: The automatic switch to a taxi diagram can be erroneously triggered under certain conditions.

Resolution: The automatic switch to a taxi diagram occurs as expected.

  • Issues Resolved

Certain Terminal Charts with Mid-Cycle Effectivity Unavailable

Issue: This issue affected devices that installed FliteDeck Pro with iPad General Settings configured for non-USA region, language, or calendar. To mitigate the issue, you had to completely uninstall the app, change the iPad region, language, and calendar settings, and then reinstall the app and re-initiate the data download process.

Resolution: Updating the FliteDeck Pro app is successful for all iPad General Setting configurations. No changes are required in the iPad General Settings prior to updating the FliteDeck Pro app.

Navigating Between Tailored Terminal Charts May Cause the App to Shut Down

Issue: Navigating between selected tailored terminal charts that were converted from PDF to TCL resulted in the app shutting down in certain situations.

Resolution: Charts converted from PDF to TCL create a larger memory burden for the app and are now appropriately accounted for. Navigating between selected terminal charts occurs as expected.

VOR/DME with Two Characters in Route Description Displays Error

Issue: When a VOR/DME with two characters was entered in the route description, an in-line error displayed the text “Unable to Find.”

Resolution: VOR/DMEs with two or three characters are accepted in the route description as expected.

  • Issues Resolved

Some Selected Terminal Charts Display Out of SequenceIssue: Charts from the Reference (REF) and Approach (APP) chart categories appeared out of sequence when navigating between the selected charts.

Resolution: Any selected REF and APP charts are navigated between in the order that they appear in the chart category list.

Network Error Causes App to Freeze During Download Without Recourse

Issue: When a network error occurred during the download of a company manual, the app could freeze without displaying an error code or a way to exit the Updates screen.

Resolution: When the network fails or is disconnected, an "X" appears at the top of the Updates screen. The "X" enables you to exit the updates view. Any error message displays along the bottom of the screen.

Deactivating the App Does Not Remove Saved User Waypoints

Issue: Saved user waypoints were not deleted from the enroute map after deactivating the app.

Resolution: When you deactivate the app, all saved user waypoints are removed from the device. Deactivation removes all Jeppesen data, coverage code information, and clears registration information.

  • Issues Resolved

Direct To Routing Clears Waypoints Already Flown in the Route

Issue: When you selected the Direct To option for a waypoint in your route, waypoints already flown were unexpectedly removed from the route.

Resolution: Direct To responds as expected by removing points between the aircraft position and the selected waypoint.

Weather Animations Persist After Switching Enroute Weather OFF

Issue: When animated enroute RADAR weather selections (NEXRAD, Echo Tops, or Lightning) were displayed, and you switched the enroute Weather button OFF, the RADAR animation continued to play.

Resolution: RADAR weather animations stop displaying as expected upon switching the Weather button OFF.

Switching Between Apps During SID Validation Can Cause App to Shut Down

Issue: This issue occurred on older devices that run on 32-bit technology, such as the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th generation iPads. When a SID was entered in the route drawer, if you switched between apps and then came back to FliteDeck Pro during the time that the route was being validated, the app might shut down. When you relaunched FliteDeck Pro, the route displayed but the SID was not in the route and had been deleted from the route drawer.

Resolution: SID validation performs as expected and switching between apps during validation does not cause the app to shut down.

  • Issues Resolved

Objects Show on the Enroute Map When They are Set to Hide

Issue: This issue occurred when in the Enroute view, you switched to the Terminal Charts view and force-closed the app. When you relaunched FliteDeck Pro and switched to the Enroute view, map objects (airports, airways, waypoints, navaids, and airspace) showed when they had been set to hide.

Resolution: Map objects display as expected.

Ownship Position Displays When There is No GPS Reception

Issue: This issue occurred on iPads with cellular service only. When the ownship position was displayed on taxi or approach charts, and cellular service was turned off (either by switching Airplane Mode to ON or Location Services for FliteDeck Pro to NEVER in the iPad global settings), the GPS status continued to indicate a strong signal and the ownship position continued to appear on the taxi chart.

Resolution: When ownship is set to display on terminal charts, and there is no GPS reception, the ownship position does not appear on terminal charts.

  • Known Limitations

Known LimitationsThis section describes known limitations to FliteDeck Pro 2.7.

Some Imported Flight Plan Routes May Display an “Unable to Find” Error Message

Issue: Some imported flight plan route information may be missing a space between route points which can generate an "unable to find" error message.

Mitigation: Edit the route description in the Flight Info drawer by inserting any missing spaces between route points.

Imported Flight Plan Route with 3-Letter Navaid May Convert Point to ICAO

Issue: When an imported flight plan route includes a navaid that has the same three-letter code as an IATA identifier, the navaid point may be converted to the ICAO airport code. This creates an incorrect mapping to the airport and might also display errors for connecting airways or points.

Mitigation: After importing a flight plan route that includes a three-letter navaid name that is the same as an airport IATA code, open the Flight Info drawer and manually reenter the navaid name.

    33

  • Known Limitations

Flight Plans Retrieved after Clearing Call Sign

Issue: After clearing the call sign from the Flight Plans tab, flight plans for the cleared call sign are displayed again when you tap Refresh.

Mitigation: Enter a new call sign in the call sign field and tap Done or Refresh.

    Ownship Representation

Issue: In some cases, the ownship representation changes in size.

Mitigation: Regardless of size, the intent is that ownship represents an approximation of the current aircraft location.

Some SID and STAR Transition Points Are Not Depicted Accurately

Issue: Some SID and STAR transition points are not depicted accurately on the enroute map.

Mitigation: Always brief the SID and STAR terminal procedure.

Uploaded Company Manuals are Displayed Together with Jeppesen Airway ManualsIssue: Company uploaded manuals are displayed together with Jeppesen Airway Manuals.

    Mitigation: None.

  • Known Limitations

Data Download May Restart From the Beginning After Force Close

Issue: After force-closing the app during a data download, upon relaunching the app, the download starts from the beginning instead of where the download left off. This appears to happen most often over slower Wi-Fi connections.

Mitigation: None. Allow for the necessary time to complete an update before commencing the update procedure.

Highlighted Search Result Disappears From Map Under Certain Conditions

Issue: This situation occurs when you perform a search from the enroute view at a zoomed-out scale and the search results return a list of “99+” objects. When you tap a search result from the search results list, the object popover displays next to the selected object on the enroute map as expected. However, if you tap away from the object popover, the highlighted search result object disappears from the enroute map.

Mitigation: To make the map object search result reappear, either pan the map or zoom out and zoom back in. Alternatively, to ensure that the highlighted search result remains on the enroute map, touch, hold, and then release the highlighted search result object from the enroute map; then tap away from the object popover.

Loss of Wi-Fi Connection Shuts Down App Under Certain ConditionsIssue: This situation occurs when the Wi-Fi connection is disconnected automatically due to the aircraft descending below 10,000 feet. When this occurs, FliteDeck Pro might shut down.

Mitigation: Disconnect the iPad from the Wi-Fi connection prior to descending below 10,000 feet.

  • Known Limitations

Some iOS Multitasking Gestures Not Supported

Issue: FliteDeck Pro does not support the iOS Split View multitasking functionality or the five-finger pinch gesture to minimize the app.

Mitigation: FliteDeck Pro supports both the iOS 9 Slide Over and Picture-in-Picture multitasking functionalities. To minimize the app, use the iPad Home key.

    Slower Performance on Older Devices

Issue: Although Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro is supported on all iPads except the first generation iPad, older devices that run on 32-bit technology, such as the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th generation iPads, might experience slower than expected performance.

Mitigation: In an effort to make our app better for you, Jeppesen iOS applications are continually modified to be fully compatible with the latest Apple operating system and iOS devices. The iPad Air and iPad Mini 2, and later, are recommended devices.

    Intermittent Connection Issues

Issue: When sharing flight information between two devices, one device might experience intermittent connection issues with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. This situation can affect the sharing of flight information.

Mitigation: If this situation occurs, the app displays the message Failed, try again. Try to share the flight information again.
