What is the Virginia Workforce Connection?

The Virginia Workforce Connection (VWC) is your doorway to employment and labor market information in Virginia. It is a powerful online labor market information tool accessed as a website on the Internet.

It is specifically designed to connect job seekers, students, employers, training providers, veterans, workforce professionals, and others seeking to explore local labor markets in Virginia to helpful and current information.

From the Virginia Workforce Connection home page, visitors can access information on a variety of topics such as job postings, veteran assistance services, unemployment insurance, education/training providers, and labor market data.

Getting Started

Registration with the Virginia Workforce Connection website is not required, however, it is necessary to access certain features on the site.

Individuals who wish to apply for jobs or post a resumé online will need to register.

Employers interested in posting job openings or searching for potential candidates online will also need to register.

Job Seeker

Clicking on Job Seeker from the Virginia Workforce Connection home page will take visitors to this page, My Workspace.

My Workspace offers links to available Services for Individuals (non-Employers) such as Career Services, Job Seeker Services, and Youth Services.

Click on Job Seeker Services to find job listings.

Job Seeker Services

The Job Seeker Services page offers several links to assist individuals in their job search.

Registered users can build resumés, create cover letters, and schedule a recurring search for job openings with the Virtual Recruiter.

To search job postings, click on Find Job Openings.

Users do not have to be registered to use this feature.

Find Job Openings

Clicking on the Find Job Openings link will take users to the Job Search page.

Various tabs offer users options for conducting a job search, e.g., Quick Job Search, Advanced Job Search, and Job Search by Employer.

After choosing a tab, users may select additional criteria such as area type and keywords to further narrow their job search.

Quick Job Search

After clicking the Search button, a list of job openings that match the user’s selections will be displayed.

The Virginia Workforce Connection website pulls job postings from most national job sites as well as corporate websites.

Clicking on the job title will display details about the position and allow registered users to access instructions on how to apply for the job.

Clicking on Labor Market Information from the Virginia Workforce Connection home page will take visitors to this page, VirginiaLMI.

Virginia LMI provides links to a variety of resources for current and historical labor market, economic, and demographic data.

Occupation Profile

To access information about a particular occupation, go to Occupation Profile on the left side of the page and click on Occupation Details.

This occupational data comes from the Occupational Information Network (O*NET) program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.

Occupation Details

Clicking on the Occupation Details link will take users to this page.

Various tabs offer users options for conducting an occupation search, e.g., Occupations by Keyword and Occupations by Group.

Users interested in seeing an alphabetical list of all occupations available should select the third tab, Occupation Listing.

Occupations by Keyword

After clicking the Search button, a list of occupations that match or are similar to the user’s selections will be displayed.

Clicking on an Occupation will display information such as current job openings, related jobs, education requirements, salary ranges, and projections of job growth.

Occupational Profiles give users the opportunity to learn about the career paths available for a specific occupation.

Labor Market Data

The Industry Data link on the VirginiaLMI page offers a variety of employment and wage statistics by industry sector.

The link is located under the Labor Market Data section.

Clicking on the Industry Data link will bring the user to this page.

Select Industry Employment and Projections (Long Term) to view projected employment information such as growth rate by industry.

Select Area: Metropolitan Statistical Area, State, or Workforce Region

The Virginia Employment Commission produces many publications about labor market information including Community Profiles, Virginia Economic Indicators, The Forum newsletter, and the Career Guide 4 Virginia (CG4VA).

These publications are available in PDF format for download and printing.

The Community Profiles are some of our most popular publications.

Clicking on one of the Community Profiles links from the VirginiaLMI page will bring the user to this page.

Community Profiles offer a wide variety of demographic, economic, and educational data for different types of locations in Virginia.

Users may select a statewide report or choose from counties/cities, PDCs, WIAs, Congressional Districts, MSAs, or Community College Regions.
