Editors Letter

Hello and welcome to the first edition of ‘Kalon’ Magazine! The word Kalon is of Greek origin and means that beauty that is more than skin deep, which is the ethos of this magazine; using the art of photography and illustration, with the focus mainly on illustration.

In this first edition, features will include some of my own work (Jennifer Hope – Editor) as well as an exclusive interview with Michael Haynes, a very talented and dedicated individual, as well as an up and coming illustrator.

One of the core aims of this magazine is to showcase new talent and every issue will feature a new or very little known illustrator.

So sit back, relax and enjoy the very first, but certainly not the last issue of Kalon Magazine.

MICHAEL HAYNES

From a very early age, Michael Haynes, a fan art fanatic, has had a pencil in his hand, drawing not only inspiration, but also the charac-ters from his favorite TV show Power Rangers. Michael has always had innate ability for drawing and as the years progressed, so has his

talent and in particular his ability using the art of colouring.Although his work is still developing, he continues with fan art as a pass time, while concentrating on very realistic portraits in his own

style.Michael is a very modest person and is often extremely self critical, insisting that whatever project he is working on “could use a lot more work”, when in fact the image in question is invariably almost flawless.

The art of drawing or illustration opens up any number of possibilities, and designers are only limited to their

imagination. Inspiration can be taken from many disparate areas for example, something as simple as one

colour to more complex themes such as the form of a skeleton or sea life. Once the designer has been touched by the muse they are then free to show

their artistic and creative talent on the page.
