AN EFFECT (noun) —  A RESULT / A CONSEQUENCE/ AN IMPRESSION (UTICAJ, DEJSTVO)

Boycotts have an effect ON company profits. 

Loss of profits will have an effect ON company managers. 

The noun “effect” is commonly followed by the preposition ON.
