Dear ReaderThat amazing atmosphere that arises, the moment of happiness that you feel
when you’ve wished for something with al l your heart, worked hard for i t and then
f inal ly reach your goal is simply indescribable. You probably know what we’re
talking about? I t might be a special i tem that you’ve saved up for and are f inal ly
able to buy. Or maybe you’ve f inal ly succeeded in bringing out the perfect patina
on a wal l or a piece of furniture. Created the exact atmosphere that you wanted
in a room or something else altogether. I t goes for everything that we do in l i fe.
No matter what, i t ’s a sat isfact ion that no one can take away from you. The joy
and pride in what you’ve achieved. I f everything was presented to you or just
came easy, the pleasure at the result wouldn’t be the same at al l . We defini tely
know a thing or two about that here at the off ice. Our readers might think that
we’ve simply got al l the answers. Natural ly, we have a lot of know-how as far as
creativi ty and decorat ing goes but then that’s al l we do every day at work – and
when we’re not at work, our mind is st i l l constantly preoccupied with new ideas
anyway. The creativi ty and inspirat ion doesn’t turn off just because 4 PM rol ls
around and we’re off work. But we also dive into new and unchartered terr i tory
a lot. We’ve adopted the wise words of Pippi Longstocking: ”I have never tr ied
that before, so I think I should defini tely be able to do that.” Thus we also make
a great number of mistakes along the way when trying something new. We have
to use a method of tr ial and error, sometimes with pract ical ly zero guidance.
So there’s great excitement and we experience the aforementioned sense of
happiness when things turn out wel l and we f inal ly succeed, perhaps after several
fai led attempts. So our advice would always be to take the leap, do what you want
and be curious. Bel ieve in yourself and you’ l l succeed.
We hope you’ l l enjoy this issue of the magazine and that you’ l l f ind plenty of
inspirat ion for early summer projects, big and small .

Brocante style in the master bedroomIt ’s now time to take a look at the large attic room in our series of articles
about the transformation of Jørgen and Lonnie’s second floor. This
particular space was previously a large, old drying loft entirely without
any windows or dormer on this side. Now it ’s a large and inviting master
bedroom with plenty of light. In order to create this amazing room, a
very large dormer with no less than three windows was added. This now
allows plenty of daylight to flow into the room. A wide windowsill runs
all the way across the wall beneath the dormer, providing a nice balance
and plenty of room for knick-knacks. Yet another shelf has been put up
beneath the windowsill. They’ve insulated the wall and put up partition
walls. In order to allow daylight into the large landing just outside the
bedroom as well, two large, old window sections have been put in facing
the landing. The overall goal for all of the rooms was to ensure plenty
of natural light, including to the large landing, so skylights would not
be necessary. The lovely, old window sections were bought secondhand
from www.genbyg.dk. They have shutters on the outside that can be
closed if you want a bit of privacy. The walls are painted with Vintage
paint in ’Antique rose’ and a few of them are wallpapered with our own
floral wallpaper that matches the color perfectly.

Lonnie has hung up her col lect ion of old hand mirrors and brushes
with various lace r ibbons on one s ide of the att ic . This is a fun
and decorative way to group many s imilar i tems together in one
place. A few of the brushes have no handles so they decorate the
windowsi l l instead.
The wonderful , old f igure was bought at a brocante market in
Belgium. It depicts the Virgin Mary with infant Jesus and has the
most beautiful patina. The colors are just perfect for the color
scheme of the room as wel l .
Lonnie put a great deal of thought into making sure that the room
didn’t turn out too feminine. When the wal ls are rose-pink and
there are f lowers on the wal lpaper, the pink can get to be a bit too
much. So she del iberately combined it with other colors. She chose
black, brown, mustard yel low, dark tea-color and antique gold.
Rust ic and mascul ine items such as l inen bedding, the bedside
lamp, top hats and iron chests provide a balance between the raw
and feminine.
