Dear ReaderWelcome to 2011!

This year, the magazine turns three, and boy, have we learned a lot during the first two years! We’ve had lots of positive experiences, but also a few

less positive ones. However, we’ve had it made clear to us that we made the right move. When we, some two years ago, decided to start up our own li festyle magazine

that would stand out from the rest, no one knew if it would make it… but it sure did!Our determination to stay true to the style, to use recycled paper, and to put out a 160 page magazine

with only a few pages of ads paid of f! We work hard to provide you, our readers, with as much editorial matter per 160 pages as possible! We work hard to make this magazine worth the money you pay with it.

We are proud of what we do, and we are very grateful for the fact that we can do what we are passionate about and stand out from other li festyle magazines around.

Risk – More than others think is safeCare – More than others think is wise

Dream – More than others think is practicalExpect – More than others think is possible

-Claude Thomas Bissell

This quote has been stencilled onto the wall of my office, and it is a great reminder to us all here at the editorial of f ice.

It urges us to be the best we can be. On a personal level as well as on the job,it is important to allow yourself to take chances, to care, to dream and of course

have certain expectations. These four elements will most likelyhelp you make your li fe eventful and interesting.

This, the first issue of 2011, has lots to of fer our readers;the first signs of spring in the form of grape hyacinths, warm and inspiring winter homes

with spicy colour schemes as well as a number of tips on decorating your own office. After all, you do spend a lot of time here, so why not let it reflect your interests and values?

Happy reading!

Lonnie and Vivian

The f lowers of the orchid are some of the most lavish, most distinctive and most wondrous ones around! The orchid family is one of the world’s largest plant families. Orchids used to be very rare and very expensive in Denmark, but times have changed! If you are looking for an alternative to the plants you usually have around your house this time of year, orchids may be an option worth exploring!

Orchids stay in bloom for quite a bit of time and they require almost no nursing. Once the stem has withered, simply trim it at the base and watch as a new one sprouts before long. You can actually promote f lowering by keeping the plants in a cool place during the night and in a warm place during the day.

6

In the wild, orchids are found in the treetops of rainforests, in savannahs and on rock surfaces. You don’t have to plant orchids in f lowerpots for them to thrive. You can actually just hang them and water them using a vaporizer. You can actually buy orchids that are intended for hanging at some f lorists’.

A single f lower head will keep for several days. You can use them for decorating candle holders, cards or entire tables. We’ve fastened a f lower to this candle holder using silver wire.

The root system of an orchid is also very decorative. You can plant your orchids in glass vases, old jars and the like. Try decorating them with lace or ribbon and make a display that incorporates several types of orchids with lit candles.

7

The f lowers of various orchids range from very delicate and tiny f lowers to huge f lowers that seem almost vulgar. The colours of the f lowers also vary greatly, but the white ones go with everything! If you want to bring a lot of strong colours into your home, a couple of pots with certain types of orchids will do the job! This deep pink sort is very pretty and they will liven up your home as well as your mood. January is a one of the less bright months of the year, so spoil yourself and buy lots of colourful f lowers!

If you have the heart to end an orchid’s life, you can actually use orchids in bouquets. They will keep for quite a while. Try mixing orchids and tulips of matching colours.

Homemade Vanilla SugarRather than discarding vanilla pods, why not use them for making a little bit of homemade vanilla sugar? It is much cheaper than buying it at the supermarket. Mix a half vanilla pod with 200 grams of sugar and allow it to infuse for a couple of days. Store it in an airtight container.
