    A GLANCE AT THE ORGANISATION

    Jabalpur Diocesan Social Service Society

    (JDSSS) was established in the year 1979 tocarry out the Social Work of the diocese withits own governing body thereby giving it asecular outlook. Later in the year 1993 theSociety was registered under the SocietiesRegistration Act of 1976. As a non-profitorganization over the past several years

    JDSSS has been undertaking a number ofprograms such as community basedAnimation & building up of PeoplesOrganization, Adult Literacy & Non-FormalEducation, Agricultural development projects,Soil & Water conservation, Environment

    Restoration & Watershed programs, SavingSchemes, Promotion of Peoples CooperativeSocieties, Farmers Seed Banks etc,Horticulture, Income Generation Programs,Rural Community Health & Family HealthInsurance, Alternative Medicines, VocationalTraining and so on.

    Being such, JDSSS activities

    were taken note of by the civilauthorities and was given a

    National Award Priyadarshinifrom the ministry of Forest &Environment for promotingPeoples Initiatives in tree-

    plantations in the villages. Atpresent, our thrust is onAnimation and building up ofPeoples Organizations in order toencourage Peoples Participatoryrole and effect qualitativechanges in various spheres of lifein rural communities.

    OUR MISSION: Sustainable Development throughthe Empowerment of the Poor.

    JDSSS is committed to its original Vision and

    Mission and to translate them into action, itcontinues to concentrate on two major concernsof the society that are necessary for anydevelopmental work. 1. Integrated Human

    Resource Development and 2. EnvironmentalRestoration through Natural ResourceManagement. There are many who contribute tothis cause directly or indirectly.

    Activities Conducted During the Year:

    1. Training for the all the six Cooperative Managers: The managers of all theCooperatives are bye now capable of running the cooperatives according to therules and regulations of the Society. And to revise and make them aware of therules and regulations of the cooperatives there was a training program for all themanagers at JDSSS-Binjhia. During the meeting they were given detailedguidance on accounts, savings, expenditure, interest, loan giving and recovery.And they were also given training on record keeping and some of the mistakes intheir records were rectified.

    2. New Governing body in Two of the Cooperatives: Since the term for thegoverning body members of Dullopur and Junwani is over the procedure to electthe new governing body has already begun.

    3. General Body Meeting: General body meeting of all the 6 Cooperatives took

    place in which capacity building and motivation on sustainability of thecooperatives were discussed. And during the general body meeting the detailsof income and expenditure of the society was presented before the assembly.

    4. Income Generation Program: Income generation program is one of the mainfactors of sustaining of the cooperatives so to make all the account holders awareof this important issue there were trainings for the general body members of 5cooperatives societies. All the general body members have decided to do differentincome generation program.

    5. Record keeping Training: All the 6 cooperative society managers and 2 of othermembers who could in future take the responsibility of the manager from eachsociety are given training on record keeping. During the training there were givensufficient input on how to keep the records up to date. And some of the mistakes inrecord keeping were also rectified. Now they have learned the importance of

    proper record keeping.

    6. Coordination of the six Cooperatives: Regular coordination and a systematicfunctioning of all the 6 cooperative societies are being done under the guidance ofthe coordinator. The coordination is established through coordinated details of allaccounts, savings, expenditure, loan given, loan refunded, and cooperative related

    activities in 6 centers. This is possible through the regular visits of the coordinatorto all the cooperative societies. And they are recorded and reported to JDSSS. Thecoordinator has become more efficient in his job now.
