JOB DESCRIPTIONRole title: Senior RAN Support Engineer – Test Facility Version No: 1.0

Reports to: Senior Manager – Test Facility Function: NSDD

GGS: 12 Location: Borehamwood & Bristol

Organisation structure & department profile:

The Test Facility within NSDD is providing our customers with the best mobile telecoms Network Test Facility in the UK, enabling research, development, testing and integration of world class solutions, on best in class environments.

Role purpose:

Accountable for the technical build and support of the NSDD Test Facility and working to ensure the timely availability of robust and proven test environments, building towards a defined standard and ensuring appropriate connectivity between systems both internally and externally, applying appropriate security.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Accountable for the completion of build, support or investigation of problems using department instructions, tools and process as a guide.

Maintaining SLA’s where practical and in the event that an SLA is not met, working to achieve the earliest resolution.

Identify technical solutions which will avoid repeated raising of work packages for similar problems, plan the potential implementation, assess the impact and make the agreed changes.

Provide technical support to a specific technology area, understanding how it impacts on other areas within the Test Facility and ensure that the knowledge accrued is documented, guiding and training other staff in their area of expertise.

Develop additional areas of knowledge and expertise to widen the overall Test Facility understanding and how all technical components work together, being recognised as a technical expert in multiple areas.

Define the proactive work required in order to maintain the test estate in order that it is usable by the wider integration, test and development communities driving improvements in the team’s working and technical methods.

Work using local processes as a guide and implement changes in order to improve the process. Represent the team as an owner of the process.

Responsible to abide by and maintain company Health and Safety policy.

must have:

Very good relevant industry knowledge of RAN (2G, 3G, and 4G)

Good breadth of knowledge of other technical areas of work; e.g. Core, IP or VASI, Network Support, Facility Services.

Able to describe the key elements of a mobile network and understand how the components function and interact.

Understand the detail of how a call is made and received over the network and the systems it touches en route.

Good knowledge of the Testing and Project Life-cycles. Significant experience of Operation & Maintenance, and use

of monitoring/call trace systems for troubleshooting. An ability to understand and assimilate technical jargon. Able to interpret and implement complex architecture

designs within test and proof of concept networks. Technical experience implementing connectivity between

RAN and CN systems, for rapid re-parenting. Technical experience with internet routing and architecture

to support IP Transport connectivity on Cisco, Huawei, & Juniper networks.

An very good knowledge is required in the operation of the RAN systems (BSC/BTS, RNC/NodeB, eNodeB, and associated OSS systems, and an overall general knowledge of IT & Networks.

Ability to influence network designs. Engineering, Science or IT based degree or equivalent
