Dear guests, members, and senators,

By means of this newsletter we would like to share with you all that the organization of JCI UC has been and will be doing throughout the course of this year. In case you missed out one of our events, meetings, or trainings you will be able to easily catch up thanks to this new initiative.

This year is another great opportunity to continue with the JCI movement by creating even greater impact within our community, as well as internationally, and hopefully around the world. Hence we cannot stop investing in ourselves. To become day by day a better leader than yesterday we certainly do believe that one must:

We had our second General Membership Meeting for this year on Thursday, 26th of February at Floris Suite Hotel Curaçao. Even though it was just our second meeting it felt like we have been doing it for a while now.

The agenda was packed with important organizational aspects and other businesses that needed the attention of the assembly. During this evening our fitness fundraising event was unanimously approved. This activity is mainly to raise funds by taking into consideration the social awareness about a healthier lifestyle. So start looking for a comfortable sneakers and sport outfit

GMM February 2015 HOME SWEET HOME

All three of them were accompanied by their parents. This truly illustrates the importance of supporting one another, especially our kids.

Each one of the contestants had a different story to tell but at the end all of them shared the same opinion: “This project took away my fear to present in front of an audience, and made me realized that: MANERA MI BOS NO TIN DOS”.

Unlike the usual One-Hour Seminars we were familiar with, for this particular GMM our Madam President invited participants of the award winning community empowerment program of 2014: Manera mi bos no tin dos, to share with the assembly their experience all through this project. After the impact that these young souls made on those whom were present during the Showcase Project, it was an experience worthy to repeat. Especially, with the rest of the UC family. We had the honor to have three contestants with us, namely:

Damian Barreto, Gedienne Eliazer, and Ketia Bissareth.

and be prepared for another fantastic event of JCI UC, more details will be provided very soon.

Similar to our first meeting we had a full room of guests, members, and senators. In addition, we had quite a few of our fellow JCI IOBA members present. We truly do appreciate the support.

To conclude our dearest Madam President Silvetty de la Paz held a well-conducted meeting. Our next GMM will take place on the 26th of March, 2015.

And yes we are back at Home Sweet Home, Floris Suite Hotel was happy to have us back as much as we did.

Informal VS formal… Although we all are looking forward to our fist social activity we had the opportunity to get together and socialize a little bit at two occasions. We are referring to the two photo shoot sessions we had last month. In regards to the “I AM… Campaign” each UC member had the chance to conduct a professional photo shoot. Furthermore we had a less formal session in Punda at the CURAÇAO sign, with which we will create a beautiful gift for our trainers throughout the year.

I AM… CAMPAIGN

I AM… Campaign is a 2015 movement of the JCI United Citizens of Curaçao that will create the possibility to introduce each member of the organization to the community as well as the public and private sector. JCI UC consists of young active citizens with extraordinary talents ready to commit, connect, and care for their community through a process of learn and lead. We kindly invite you to join us throughout this journey where we will interview each individual who forms part of the UC community.

You probably already notice a couple of images and interview of our first I AM… members on our Facebook page. If not we encourage you to visit our page as soon as you have a chance and learn more about the characters who are currently part of the UC community.

For starters we had the satisfaction to know Naesha Zunder and Luigi Louisa even better. Both of these young active citizens were interviewed for an article and videotaped for a ONE MINUTE, ONE SHOT answer to a randomly question.

While working hard to achieve our goals, we tend to neglect to the essence to get to know our fellow members as a person. Along the way you will eventually become familiar with one’s character but perhaps not good enough to use others strength efficiently or consciously guide one another to improve one’s weakness.

This does not only count in local chapters but most important within the whole organization of JCI in order to create a greater impact all around the world.

With that being said this another reason why you should know who I AM.

NOT THAT KIND OF WOMAN Casa Bernardo Building, Madorstraat – Punda

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN DAY

Last Sunday – March 8th, 2015 – women worldwide celebrated on this special day, likewise did the females in Curaçao as well as the brilliant and dynamic ladies of JCI UC.

5Triple9Productions successfully organized the first edition of: Not that Kind of Woman. With a forceful team behind her, Sawita Chotkan made it possible for an enjoyable encounter between young professionals and experienced women in their prime of their lives in a newly renovated building of Casa Bernardo.

The building was surrounded by security guards indicating where the main entrance was. Once you have been escorted into the building a neatly and nice man walk you to the elevator and wishing a nice evening. In the elevator a young beautiful woman welcomed you and brought you to the corresponding floor. In case you thought it couldn’t get any better another young man welcomed you to the event and helped you get out of the elevator. Even though there was no red carpet it surely made you feel like an extraordinary woman and perhaps a little bit like a celebrity.

This amazing event consisted of three activities: a talk show, a debating session, and That Woman Award. Hosted by Nohraya Godfried the program smoothly followed through starting with a very special keynote speaker Ms. Jeanne Henriquez. Next to follow was the talk show about two of the hottest series at the moment Girls VS Scandal. The panel consisted of Rustanne Mercelina (young professional), Nelly Rosa (journalist) Crisan Schorea (psychology), together with Nohraya. Afterwards we had a short break to grab a bite, have a drink and enjoy the beautiful artworks of Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) “The Curaçao Center of contemporary Art”.

While females from various sectors of our society exchanged ideas and thoughts DJ Lu-C managed to entertain the crowd with some really good music. After the break things heated up during the debating session where different persons (among others fellow Jaycees Nevita Mezas) were invited to share either a story, facts, or analysis and to present a related a proposition. The topics were related to matters such as the ideal body figure of a woman, differences of salary income between men and women, professional development of women, freedom to be yourself. Each opinion brought forward was of great value for those listening. Only by discussing certain matters one will truly find out what is living within a person. Automatically it triggers you to become more understanding toward another person’s action. This awesome night ended with the awarding of Ms. Ruvette Dirks as the most inspiring ”That Kind of Woman” at the moment. Ms. Ruvette gave a motivational speech that ended with the following quote: She further explained that by no

means we should go out there and misbehave but rather be encouraged to step up so that we can grow as a person and move forward in life.
