Draft RDR for Beijing
After much discussion, the board and the editors have agreed that it will not be possible to produce a satisfactory complete and finished draft by Beijing, given the amount of general editing that we feel still remains to be done. We therefore propose to produce an incomplete reduced scope document as follows:
1. We have concentrated the editing efforts over the last week on a core sub-set ofthe RDR (see below for details).
2. The current version of this core document has been frozen as of 6PM PST, 30thJanuary, and has been formally handed to the Executive Committee (EC) forreview; no further content edits to these draft sections will occur, notwithstandingcomments from the EC.

3. At the end of the Beijing meeting, and after review and sign-off by the EC, a PDF version of the core draft will be made available for download to the public.
4. A final draft – including all sections, edited, reviewed and signed-off by the EC –will be made available by no later than April 1st, 2007.
5. The final document will be published in summer, 2007, after external review.

Please also note that the RDR MB and the editors are aware of several technicalinconsistencies between the BCD and the current RDR, many of which will requireformal Change Control Requests and subsequent review by the CCB. A catalogue of these modifications is being made. Should you identify technical details that fall into this category, please send them to Nobu Toge ([email protected]). Plans for bringing the RDR and BCD inline with each other will be discussed at the Beijing meeting.

Draft RDR for BeijingReferences and supporting documentationThe RDR is intended to be a ‘light’ readable document, which describes the machine design in enough detail to support feasibility and the cost estimate. It does not completely reflect the amount of detailed technical work that exists. It is important that this detailed technical work be documented to support the RDR content (references), and before moving on to the EDR phase. We would like to ask all the groups to produce detailed ILC Reports on their respective systems where appropriate. Several of the RDR chapters and sections have been shortened by the editors to maintain a consistent look-and-feel and level of detail to the document as a whole. It is important that the omitted information be captured in standalone ILC Reports, which can then be referenced by the RDR itself. In order to include the references in the RDR, you can request a report number from Max ([email protected]); Max will maintain a list of titles, authors and report numbers.
The ILC Reports themselves should be completed before April 1st.
