Baskerville was created in 1754 by John Baskerville. This font is known for its crisp edges and generous proprtions. Baskerville is known as a transtional serif font with strong contrast between thick and thin bars as the lines bend, cross, and twist. Baskerville was fell to critisism as being to simple and too perfect. Baskerville was inspired to create a typeface with rounded braqcketed serifs and a vertical axis due to the cold fonts in use during his day.
John Baskerville owed much of his carrer to his beginings. While he was working as a clergyman, it was his employer
who discovered his talent for penmenship and sent him to learn how to write. John Baskerville was illiterate but became very interested in
handwriting and later echoed that in his printed typeface.
