Broadcom-Layoff• Broadcom Cuts 2,500 Jobs as It Winds Down
Baseband Unit- http://reut.rs/1I546ip- But they continue to release Raspberry
Pi SoC(BCM2835)
- Team of BCM2835 has been merged another team to restructure their business
11

Decide to visit Foundation• I discussed some of community members to the future
of Raspberry Pi toward the restructuring of Broadcom- Eben told us ‘not huge changes in Raspberry Pi specs
and features’.but they might be sooner changed their mind because of broadcom restructuring
- The foundation still is run by a few members, but selling over 3 million..how they will do that?are they okay?
- The lifecycle of ARM SoC is very short..they might abandon using ARM11(2835)

Where is ‘Pi Tower’….
15
Japanese Raspberry Pi Users Group
about Raspberry Pi A+• competitive price - set 20US$
- http://bit.ly/1zH9tjb- Smaller,thin- lower power consumption- beat Koreans ‘Compatible machines’ Odroid W
- Raspberry Pi Foundation had a legal issue with them
- my Odroid W is very easy to break..16

About their Office • Arrived the morning there are a few people
working - mainly evaluate their products• After the lunch some people gathering there to
help the Foundation - mainly Univ. Students there in Cambridge
• There are some use cases putting on each meeting rooms.
• Very impressed ton of the ideas using Raspberry Pi from the children all over the world.
18

Foundation members • Almost is the engineers from Broadcom• Univ. Students (Cambridge?) helping the Foundation • but there are many teachers (almost is teaching
programing at schools) joining the Foundation to improve and add values to Raspberry Pi • They discussed the promotion plans for
Education ‘all the day’ - from early morning to late night

Sudden Announcement • Sudden Announcement at the end of Jan • Almost mod were surprised..
- why using A7 Chips - is the same as Chinese Banana Pi or some ‘abuse’ compatible machines?
- it can work on old A(+)/B(+) images?- apps on old A(+)/B(+) can works on it?- OSes(like Raspbian) is ready for it? they can catch
up with it?- Ubuntu can work on it?

Sudden Release..
• Before releasing Raspberry Pi main OS Raspbian was RC..GA?
• Running New Pi updating to fix it..• Xenon Death Flash issue(covering U16 to fix)
• official notice:http://bit.ly/1M6NKVi• how to reboot with Xenon:http://bit.ly/

Let’s try flash crashing:)

Moving from RPi 1 Model B+
30
• because of changing CPU architecture, you cant use your microSD now using on your Raspberry B(+)/A(+) just out of the box.- Raspberry Pi B(+)/A(+) - armhf (hard-float)- Raspberry Pi 2 - armel(soft-float)
- thus 6x faster but 4 Core CPUs• if you use your own SD for RPi 1 and it is made by
‘dd’ (not NOOBS) ‘use upgrade’ command# apt-get update# apt-get dist-upgrade
Japanese Raspberry Pi Users Group
Moving from RPi 1 Model B+
31
• if you made your own SD for RPi 1 with NOOBS please make sure before updating - Copy your own SD except ‘os’ directory
and recovery.cmdline• latest image has two kernels kernel.img
(armhf) and kernel7.img(armel)

Roadmap of Raspberry Pi
32
• First they’re planning to fix Xenon flash issue :)• Mainly produce RPi 2 B and RPi A+• A+ is for Robot or Electric DIY.• B+ price is down! but ‘focus-off’
• perhaps getting less production than 2 and A+
• improve stably - down compatible• use your image with both old Pi and New Pi
Japanese Raspberry Pi Users Group
Roadmap of Raspberry Pi
33
• Increasing Equipments and Apps and very easy to use• Not compiling Kernel - most of them
already are included RPi Kernel (USB DAC,Hats..)
• Increasing Solutions for Education • much more meetings for promotion plans
for Education at Raspberry Pi Foundation

(Appendix) RPi on Jessie?
• Now Raspbian has Jessie repo you can upgrade Jessie - /etc/apt/source.list
• it very loong time to update…• but some of apps hasn’t improved yet so
you should use stable wheezy when using some apps on RPi

summary• Raspberry Pi 2 suddenly released..(perhaps)
because of CPU issue• First time a bit confused because Eben do not like
‘abuse’ compatible machine like Banana Pi and Orange Pi
• Pi 2 is compatible with Pi A(+)/B(+) but please note Pi 2 is armel and some of apps need to fix for new Pi
• Next Gen Pi(?) might be improved stably…44
