    Landscaping is heading rapidly to

    contemporary style these days and

    many garden designers are working

overtime to keep up with demand.

Why contemporary style? Why contemporary style? Why contemporary style? Why contemporary style?I think it is because peoples lifestyle

    and house designs are changing.

I must admit myself, I too am making

    more contemporary style Japanese

gardens. Here are a few advantages

    of having a contemporary style

    garden:

    1. Suited to small spaces.

    2. Suited to low maintenance gar-

    dens.3. Many garden ornaments are

    available including water fea-

    tures.

I will be writing about DIY con-

temporary style water featurewater featurewater featurewater feature

After the long, dark, cold win-

ter, spring is in the air and the

    birds start singing.

Everyone is happy to see the

    warm sun and

    Che..Che.Cherry blossom.

Oh yes, we mustcelebrate. How? - SAKE!

    ..Sake of course.

    Spread the blanket under the

cherry tree and have a picnic

    Did you know ?

    VinegarVinegarVinegarVinegar

    1. Add a few drops vinegar to cooked rice and

rice will last longer . (good for picnic) That is

    how sushi started.

    2. Mix 2 tablespoons vinegar and 10lt of

    water in watering can.

Water on to Azalea, Camellia and Nandina.

You can see their smile in 1 week.

    Azalea

Beauty about Azalea is..you can prune any spot and they reshoot again.

4~5 new shoots appear from one spot makes them easier to shape.

If you have a few different varieties in your garden which flower at different

times you can have more or less continuous flowering.

    Eg.

Indica, Kurume and Satsuki Flowers start from June and continue until to

    December.

However, if you want the WOW factor choose just one variety grouped to-

    gether.

Just remember Azalea loves acid soil.

What kind of dog is he ?

    Answer is in May issue

Why do the Easter Bunnies hide their eggs?

Because they dont want anyone to find out

that they had sex with chicken.

I was pruning our overgrown scotch elm in our backyard when I heard the

sound of baby bird. I looked carefully in the branches and there was a

baby pigeon in a well hidden nest.

I felt good that I had found it before accidentally destroying it. Ourbackyard is a birds haven since we have a bottle-brush and pepper tree.

I can count least 6~7 Variety of birds every day.

It is very nice feeling to hear birds singing every day. I hope you have

some little friends in your garden too.

Best way to make good garden isSpend your time or spend your money.

If you have time, you can visit a home centre and check out what is available, also whats

new? Sometimes you need to go to 2 ~ 3 centres to find what you looking for. By the endof the day, you will have some idea. Well, its a start. What ever the idea is, write it down.

Eventually you will get big picture. You can call trades men (eg. Brick paver) and explainwhat you want.

If you havent got time, call an expert and simply explain what you want and they will

arrange everything for you with fee of course.

But this column is to save money so you have to do as much work as you can.

If you are looking for a quote for Brick paving, try to follow next advice.

    1. Visit a Paving Display Centre and look at different ways to pave. There are many pat-

terns to choose from and many ways to mix colour. Taking a digital camera is a very goodidea.

    2. At home, lay the garden hose in the shape you want, have a cup of tea, relax and look atthe shape.

    3. Ask yourself or your partner for a second opinion.

    4. If you are happy with the shape you created,

    5. Call brick paver and get quote.

    Important note

You can get 2 ~ 3 quotes to see the difference.

Ask the brick paving person what the type of header course will be.

Ask for written quotes & specifications and compare them.

Please note the simpler the shape the cheaper it will be.
