EditorialIndeed it is a great pleasure to bring out this edition of the bulletin for

the first quarter of the New Year 2016. 2015 years have rolled away since the birth of Jesus Christ and even on this day, our perspectives

on the Kingdom of God are often quite varied. But, as we are heading towards the end times, it is essential that we try to understand it in light of the scriptures.

During Jesus’ physical presence in this world, He fulfilled his fathers will and began his ministry at the appointed time. For around three and a half years He went about preaching on the subject of the Kingdom of God. In fact the gospel is nothing but an illustration of what ‘Kingdom of God’ truly means - firstly who is the real King in our lives; next under the Kingship of Jesus Christ, how can one lead a life surrendering ones whole self and walk in his ways; and finally while doing so, how can one prepare oneself to spend eternity with the Lord. Even the miracles that Jesus had performed were meant to be examples of what life is like in the Kingdom of God -healing and fullness of life.

In this issue, you can find various articles on the central theme about the Kingdom of God.These articles throw light on ideas like the need for seeking the Kingdom of God, the Kingship of Jesus in all areas of our life and the means of entering the Kingdom of God. An article also explores the importance of seeking the Kingdom of God over all the other seemingly crucial things of this world. Children from Sunday school have also shared their views about the Kingdom of God through parables which direct us towards the Kingdom of God.

Things happening around us remind us that the Lord is at the doorsteps and it is giving a wakeup call “Repent, the Kingdom of God is near”.

I hope this issue will help us refresh our minds in understanding facts about the Kingdom of God and encourage and enable us to make our contribution for the extension of His Kingdom in this earth, as we eagerly await the eternal Kingdom of God in heaven.

6The Church Messenger

The Kingdom of god - What is it?The heart of Jesus’ teachings centers around the theme of the Kingdom

of God. Jesus’ earliest announcement, “The time has come… The Kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!”(Mark.1:15; Mt.4:17; Lk.4:42-43). The Prayer Jesus taught his disciples, “Your Kingdom come”(Mt.6:10); in the Beatitudes, “ for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven” (Mt.5:3; Mt.5:10 ) at the Last Supper, “I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it a new in the Kingdom of God”(Mk.14:25) It was once argued that the expressions “Kingdom of God” and “ Kingdom of heaven” referred to two different realities. It is now clear that they are synonyms.

The Political Kingdom: According to this Jesus is expected to establish a Davidic-like Kingdom in Jerusalem. This Kingdom was Political in nature and sought to free Israel from the Romans. They were thinking that Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday was Political King’s entrance. A group called Zealots expected this view.

The spiritual Kingdom: The understanding of the Liberals about the Kingdom of God was as God’s rule in the human heart. They were interpreted as symbols of the inner rule of God in the heart. The Kingdom of God was God’s spiritual reign in the life of the believer that resulted in an inner moral ethic.

The eschatological Kingdom: According to this view Jesus taught that the Kingdom of God, which would bring history to its end, was future. Yet this event lay not in the far distant future. On the contrary, it was very near. It had not yet arrived, but it was to appear momentarily. Signs and Powers of the Kingdom were already at work, and prefigurements of its glory were already present. As a result Jesus taught with announcement of the Kingdom of God’s nearness an “interim ethic” for this brief in-between period of history. Soon the Son of Man would come, the final Judgment would take place, and world history as we know it would cease. During this period believers were to live a heroic ethic. They were to avoid

divorce, refrain from marriage, love their enemies, turn the other cheek, not retaliate, give to whoever had a need.

The coming of the Son of Man, the final resurrection, faith turning to sight, are “not yet”. The Kingdom of God is both now and not yet. The Kingdom has come in fulfillment of the Old Testament promises. A new covenant has been established. But its final manifestation and consummation lie in the future. Until then we are to be good and faithful servants.(Lk.19:11-27).

Implications if the Kingdom is both already now and not yet, the believer must be on guard against the danger of emphasizing one aspect of the Kingdom at the expenses of the others. The present Kingdom emphasizes miracles, healing, victory over sin, and gifts God has given His Church. The enjoyment of the first fruits of the Kingdom must be tempered by the fact that we still live by faith and not sight. We still long for the perishable to become clothed with the imperishable, the mortal with immortality(1 Cor.15:53).

The Christians continue to look longingly toward the blessed hope(Titus.2:13). when the Son of Man will return and bring the Kingdom to its consummation. Having tasted of the first fruits that are already realized, the believer prays all the more earnestly” Your Kingdom Come” (Mt. 6:10) and “ Maranatha”(1 Cor.16:22; Rev.22:20).

This nursey rhyme enlightens us when revisited after we grew up. Pussy Cat was blinded by the misplaced focus on worldly cravings of flesh. So it missed the focus of its visit to the palace of the Queen . It gave its attention to the small mouse under the Queen’s chair and missed the opportunity to see, greet and get acquainted with the Queen sitting on the throne.

We see a similar situation in Luke 17:20-21 wherein the religious leaders like Pharisees and their followers were spiritually blinded by their hallow religious, self-righteous perspective and their misconceived expectations about a politically powerful worldly kingdom. They missed out to see the spiritual King Messiahin Jesus and the dawn of His spiritual Kingdom in the hearts and minds of the responsive faithful hearers. They did not realise that Kingdom of God had already arrived when He started preaching the Gospel of repentance and redemptionWhen Jesus wept over Jerusalem, He said ”the things that make for your peaceare hidden from your eyes ( Luke 19:42)… you did not know the time of your visitation”(Luke19:44b).

“My Kingdom is not of this world” Jesus reiterated later to Governor Pilate (John 18:36-37). His Kingdom is not like an earthly kingdom with political power and geographic boundaries. Instead it begins with the outworking of in-dwelling god’s spirit transforming peoples’ lives and relationships. Most of us are also like the Pharisees andfocus much on the external worldly and religious matters and not on the internal spiritual Lordship. We fail to see the Kingdom of God latent in the cross of Calvary and miss the deeper sense of the profound Truth “heaven came down and glory filled my soul, When at the Cross the Saviour made me whole”. Jesus alone can transform the inner soul when we repent and have ongoing experience of perfecting our salvation with the wisdom and strength of the in-dwelling holy spirit. We surrender inner man totally to His Lordship andthereby submit to His Kingdom within us and

The Kingdom of god starts Within You and Flows Out

(Luke 17:21)

Pussy cat, pussy cat, where have you been?I've been to London to visit the Queen.Pussy cat, pussy cat, what did you there? I chased a little mouse right under the chair.

Fig.1: one person is rowing while the other person standing with the binoculars is looking out in the front for any danger ahead . With binoculars he focusses on scenery far ahead and he fails to notice the tree branches jetting across the boat right now nearby. He will get himself hit by these branches as hewill not duck down on time.

A funny anectode to show the selfish carnal nature dominant in the mankind after the fall in Aden: A devote Christian mother was preparing pancakes for her young sons. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their Mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson. If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, "Let my brother have the first pancake. I can wait." The oldest boy turned to his younger brother and said, "You beJesus”.The cartoon on the right indicates the tendency to fit Bible into our own worldly aspirations and our self-centeredness.

our sanctified souls act as salt and light to the rest of the world, building up his spiritual Kingdom on this earth.

In this response of Jesus to pharisees in Luke 17:20-21, the emphasis is on the Kingdom within, right now (not on the millennial kingdomin distant futureas stated in another scriptural context)as elaborated by Oswald Chambers

The point being made by the above illustration (Fig. 1) is that due focus of our spiritual life is very often not given on our lives right here and right now. Eternal life starts here immediately after redemption as far as we make spiritual progress in regaining the image of God .“ The God’s presence we enjoy in this reborn life” said SadhuSundarsing “is paradise on earth (filled with agape love, peace and everlasting joy)”. Paradise lost in eden was restored on Cross 2000 years ago. We just have to inherit this paradise as the adopted children of god through personal salvation experience.

To say that the Kingdom is going to be brought in the earth being swept clean through wars and cataclysms is not true: the Kingdom cannot be introduced that way. Nothing can bring the Kingdom saving the

Redemption, which works in personal lives through the Cross and in no other way. Christ came to this world to put within us a new spirit and make us members of His Kingdom while we are in this world – not against the world, and not of it, but in this world exhibiting an otherworldly spirit. That was what he preached in the Sermon on the Mount – His Kingdom values - reverseof this world’s materialistic value system (Rev 18:12-13 - gold on the top and soul at the bottom).

Philip Yancey reinforces the same view –Indeed, the Kingdom of God will grow on earth as the church creates an alternative society demonstrating what the world is not, but one day will be. A society that welcomes people of all races and social classes, that is characterised by love and not polarization, that cares for its weakest members, that stands for justice and righteousnessin a world enamoured with selfishness and decadence, a society in which members compete for the privilege of serving one another – this is what Jesus meant by the Kingdom of God.

Once we become members of God’s kingdom on earth by being regenerated as new creation in Christ – redemption by the blood of Jesus, we start enjoying God’s presence in our lives. The first disobedience of Adam and Eve led them to be driven out of God’s presence and the Cross gave us the opportunity to become children of God and enjoy His presence and intimate relationship with Him inheriting His spiritual blessings - agape love, everlasting joy and the heavenly peace in this world. With this liberating experience of salvation we can always sing from the bottom of our hearts the following meaningful and melodious gospel song.

1. What a fellowship, what a joy divine, Leaning on the everlasting arms;

What a blessedness, what a peace is mine, Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Leaning, leaning, Safe and secure from all alarms; Leaning, leaning, Leaning on the everlasting arms.

2. Oh, how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way, Leaning on the everlasting arms; Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day, Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Mr. D. Dhanaraj Jeyapaul

Kingdom of God - The parable of the sowerWhen I was reading my Sunday school book, I came to know that Jesus

used lot of Parables to explain about the Kingdom of God. I was curious to know about the Kingdom of God. So I started reading the parables and was interested to understand the relation to our lives. Jesus often preached about the kingdom of God and wanted us to be prepared for the same.

I liked the parable of the sower.

The story is easy to understand and looks very simple. Jesus said to the disciples that this parable is actually about the kingdom of God. In the crowd , there are different types of people and they are :

1. Some people hear the message about the kingdom and do not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.

2. Some people hear the message with joy But since they have no root, they last only a short time

This is the seed falling on rocky ground.3. Some people like the gospel and are interested to follow and when

it doesn’t solve their problems, they quit. This is the seed falling among the thorns.

4. Someone who hears the word, understand it and follow the word of God bear the fruit for the Kingdom of God. This is seed falling on good soil.

Jesus wants us to be like the seed sown in the good soil. Seeds don’t have a choice as to what kind of soil they fall on, but we have a choice as to what kind of soil we will be for the seed. When problems come, we should choose to be with the gospel instead of fall away. When life gets boring or troubles in life , we should choose to bear fruit for his kingdom. By doing this , we are blessed a hundred , sixty or thirty times.

So I would like to be a good soil to help the seed to bear good yields. We should not be distracted by the worries of this world We should read bible daily , pray to God for our needs and be firm in him. He will help us to yield fruits in our life. He will also keep a place for us in his Kingdom.

Miss. Jeshvina Ajvin

12The Church Messenger

Parable of the SowerJesus used to speak to the people in simple parables to make them

understand the heavenly Truth. One of the parables is that of the sower who went to sow seeds.

There is a great truth behind this simple illustration, which Jesus used, to explain how our hearts should be when we hear the word of God. We just cannot be hearers of the word of God, but we need to be doers and bear fruit and be a blessing to others. Jesus tells about the four types of ground where the word of God, i.e the seed, fell.

The first seed fell on the path and the birds took it away, which signifies that we hear the word of God and don’t show it in action. The second seed fell by the rocky places where there is no earth to sustain it. Our foundation is not strong enough, hence we just cannot remain in the word of God. The third seed fell in the thorny place. We try to grow among many trials and temptations. Since we cannot withstand the pain and agony, we are not able to grow. The fourth seed fell on good ground. Because its foundation was strong and contained all the requirements, it gave 30-60-100 fold growth and was a blessing to others.

If we want to be a part of the Eternal Kingdom of God, our hearts should be a good foundation based on Christ, so that we not only hear the word but also show it in action and bear much fruit.

Miss. Catherine Dickson.

The Lost sheepWhen a mother loses her child she looks for the child. If she does not

find the child, she goes and gives a complain to the police. Doesn’t this sound familiar? Yes. The parable of the lost sheep (Luke 15 : 1-7) which is one of my favourite parable. Jesus told this parable to the tax collectors and Pharisees when one of the Pharisees muttered that Jesus Christ welcomes sinners and eats with them. Now, when the police finds the child there is great joy for the mother. Similarly, when a sinner comes back to God the angels and God Himself rejoice a lot.But when the mother does not find the child there is lot of sadness in the mother’s life. Similarly, when the sinner does not return back, God become sad.

The Lord Jesus Christ is our shepherd. The shepherd knows even if one of his sheep getslost. All the sheep look similar but still the shepherd knows the size, colour and name of the sheep that get lost. Jesus also knows each one of us personally & he knows when we go wrong and comes in search for us. A shepherd never gives up and continues searching

Page 13: January-March 2016 the church messenger R·Ï %URzîy N+T ...tmcparel.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/The_Messenger_Jan-Marc… · January-March 2016 R·Ï %URzîy N+T, T ... Carol

for the lost sheep. Jesus also never gives up. He keeps on guiding and instructing us. It is our choice whether we want to listen to him or not. Through this parable I learnt that Jesus is our good shepherd, he loves us and cares for us. He wants all his children to be a part of His Kingdom. No one else can love us like he does. Our duty is to spread the word of God and obey and trust him. We must first of all experience this love in our daily lives and must share the gospel to our friends and neighbours so that they also know about the Lord.

Miss. Jovita rajan

Kingdom of god - The sowerThis parable emphasizes the need to trust in the power of the seed – the

word of God

The growth produced by the word is a mystery. The sower can sow the seed and see it sprout and grow. But the growth is beyond his understanding and grows by itself. The growth produced by the word is gradual. It doesn’t all occur at once. But step by step :- First the blade, then the head, then the full grain. Through such growth the harvest eventually comes. The seed should fall on good soil. It takes a good and noble heart for the seed to produce fruit. This parable stresses the divine power within the word. It takes seed that has within itself the power to germinate and grow in good soil. The word of God is a powerful seed. It is God who gives the increase.

For the growth of the kingdom of God – we need to sow the seed as far and wide as we possibly can.

In the kingdom of God we are labourers. Our duty is to sow and wait patiently. Results depend upon God, and for perfection He takes His own time. So let us do our duty and trust in the power of God.

Missionary Name : S. Vadivel JamesWife Name : Vijaya JamesChildren : Jessy (5 years) and V. Jesvin (2 years)Field Name : Kanti, Madhya Pradesh.

About Myself / Family:I am Vadivel James. I belong to

a traditional Hindu family from Aladipatti, a small village in Salem, Tamil Nadu. My father was a witch doctor. Few years ago my mother and my sister passed away. I have a step-mother,a step-brother and step-sister.

Our family came to know about Lord Jesus Christ through BYM Missionaries. Because of our family conversion, our fellow villagers were against us, and tried to send us out of our village. Since our family members are very strong in their faith, they can’t do anything against us. Presently all of our family members are believers.

With the help of the BYM Missionary I joined the Bethel Danishpet hostel in Salem. There I learned more about Lord Jesus Christ and started to grow in Him. I lived in the hostel for seventeen years. I finished my XII classand then I finished my Four year Bible College Studies (B.Th), and also my M.A Sociology Studies. Later I worked with IEM for a while. On August 1st 2006, I joined BYM as a full time Missionary. Initially I worked in the Jabalpur State Office for 5 years. Now I am based in Katni and I look after the hostel ministry. On 31st August 2007, I got married toVijaya who is also a believer, in Sitteri. Her family also hails from a Hindu background. Now we both are involved in cross-cultural Ministry in Katni (MP).

Personal Testimony & Calling for ministry:During my hostel life I was motivated to carry out God’s work through

the missionary biography movie shows held in our hostel. My hostel warden also was a great source of inspiration to me. During my 10thStd, I had the privilege of attending a boys camp in Cuttralam. I received the salvation experience in that camp. I confessed all my sins and I got

happiness and real joy in my life. On the last day of the camp, Bethel Founder Mr. P. Samuel uncle gave a message based on Eze: 22:30. He gave a missionary call to work in India. That day I obeyed God’s voice and decided to dedicate my lifeto full time ministry. After my commitment I went through lot of loses in my life. I started to depend upon God for all my needs. After I lost my mother I was totally distanced from my family. With great difficulties I completed my school studies. Later I joined a Bible College and finished the four yearB.Th course.

Details about the Field & People to whom minister to: Soon after my college studies I went with my friend and joined IEM.

For threeyears I worked in different places. For instanceHosur in Tamil Nadu, Neelwai in A.P, Kutch in Gujarat. I learned their local language in order to do ministry among them. Then I left ministry and went back to my home town inorder to help my father in farming. The BYM missionaries in my village motivated me to join BYM as a missionary. After finishing my Missionary training, BYM send me to Jabalpur (M.P.). For around six month I was involved in Shahgrah church planting Ministry. During this time I worked among the Ahirwar community people group. At present we have 25 active worship groups in Banda, Badamalhera and Shahgrah area. We have one training centerand three church buildings too. After my marriage, I and my wifewere placed in Jabalpur state office to learn language and literature work. Then we finished our Hindi correspondence course. BYM also helped me to study B.Miss (Bachelor of Missiology). In Jabalpur we carried out youth ministry, literature ministry, revival & promotional work among Christian Families. Now we are involved in hostel ministry in Katni. By Gods abundant gracethere are 37 boys studying in our hostel (2nd Std to 12th Std). These boys are children of the believers from the nearby villages. We look after their academic needs and spiritual upbringing.

In Madhya Pradesh, missionaries face lot of persecution from the RSS, BJP groups. Our leaders and lady missionaries are taken to the police stations quite frequently. Recently our missionaries from the Kanti hostel, Mrs & Mr. K.V. David, were arrested under the false accusation of forcibly converting poor children. In midst of all these dangers and uncertainties God gives us His strength to do His work. We are totally dependent upon Him for guidance. We would thank your congregation for your continued prayers and support.

Mr. s. Vadivel James Blessing Youth Mission

Sunday SchoolRepoRt

By the grace of the Lord all the activities that had been planned for the year have been completed except for the visit to the Blind home. Verve VBS was conducted from 9th November to 15th November. Two directors from VBS Ministries, Mr. Sylvester and Mr. Anthony had come from Bangalore. This year’s theme was ‘Conquering challenges with God’s mighty power’. The children were taught about God’s eternal power to provide, heal, comfort, and forgive using relevant Bible passages. Children had learnt these valuable facts and at the same time enjoyed it to the core with fun and excitement. On 15th November the worship service was observed as VBS Sunday.Kindly pray for the Hindu children who attended the VBS so that the seed that has been sown in their hearts to grow and bear fruits in the years to come.

Children’s Sunday was held on the 6th of December and the worship service was led by the children partially. Mrs. Angela Dani shared the word of God. Children had participated enthusiastically and showcased their various talents.

Sunday School Examination was held on the 13th of December. On 20th December, children will receive their prizes for the various competitions held during this year.

Kindly pray for God’s guidance and counsel for taking all the necessary steps to help all the children to be deep rooted in the Lord and to grow in the Lord everyday.

I thank the entire team of dedicated teachers who had joined hands together to do this ministry for His glory.

Mrs.grace selvarani Sunday School Superintendent
