game to finish the session with a

    high series of 824.

    LAS VEGAS Two months

after losing his mother to car-

    diac failure, D.J. Archer of

    Friendswood, Texas, bowled

the biggest game of his life,

    winning his first Professional

    Bowlers Association Tour title

    in the PBA Chameleon

    Championship and stealing

    the spotlight from Ronnie

    Russell of Marion, Indiana,

    who bowled the first national-

    ly-televised 300 game in the

    new, $35 million South Point

    Bowling Plaza a game earlier.

The Chameleon finals, thethird of five PBA Tour title

    events conducted during

    GEICO PBA World Series of

Bowling VI, aired last week on

    ESPN.

    After starting the champi-

    onship match with two strikes,

    Archer left the 1-2-4-7-10 in

the third frame and failed to

    convert. But he quickly right-

ed his ship and closed the

match with a string of seven

    strikes to lock Russell out,

    winning, 241-215.

    Coming into the finals, with

    everything thats gone on in

my life the past month-and-a-half, I just felt like (my moth-

    er) was there, Archer said

about the loss of his mother

Sharon at age 59 in mid-

    September. The only thing

    that could have happened in

the 10th frame was for me to

    throw two really good shots

and thats what I did. I felt lik e

nothing was going to stand up.

She knocked the pins over for

    me, and Im very grateful.

    Archer had finished second

    once before (in the 2013

    Carmen Salvino Classic) dur-

    ing his 12-year PBA Tour

career, so he got to experience

the thrill of victory for the

    first time.

    Ive been chasing this feel-

ing for years, and now that I

know what it feels like, Im

going to work harder and get

    stronger, and hopefully Ill get

    this feeling more often, he

    said. Im excited, very excit-

ed. Those guys have been beat-

ing my head in for a long time

    and I figured out a way.. I

    learned how to bowl.

    In the opening three-player

    shootout match, Russell and

    Sean Rash of Montgomery,

    Illinois, each started with six

strikes to open a big lead over

    J.R. Raymond of Bay City,

    Michigan, who was making his

    PBA television debut.

    Raymond opened in the second

frame and never had a chance

    to catch up.

Rash was the first to end his

strike string, leaving a 10 pin

in the seventh frame and the 1-

    2-4-10 washout in the

    eighth, while Russell kept on

striking on his way to the

    PBAs 24th nationally-tele-

    vised 300 game. Rash finished

    with a 265 and Raymond a

    186.

That was a lot of fun,

    Russell said, but youre still

trying to get the win. I had

    three really good breaks where

    I tripped 4 or 10 pins, and I

think that hurt me in the title

    game because my laydown

point went away a li ttl e bit . I

    kept chasing the transition (in

    the changing lane condition)

with my eyes and feet, but I

    knew I should have changed

bal ls. I jus t did it two frames

    too late.

    ARLINGTON, Texas - The

    United States Bowling Congress

Hall of Fame will induct three

new members in 2015 - all in the

    Outstanding USBC Performance

    category.

    Four-time USBC Open

    Championships titlist Gus

    Yannaras of Waukesha,

    Wisconsin, and two-time cham-

pion Sam Lantto of Eden Prairie,

    Minnesota, will join some of

    their teammates in the USBC

Hall of Fame, while the late

    Fritzie Rahn of Chicago, an

    eight-time winner at the USBC

    Women's Championships, was

    elected posthumously.

    The committee also slated

    seven bowlers for the Superior

    Performance national ballot to be

voted on by a panel of USBC

    Hall of Fame members, board

    members and veteran bowling

    writers.

    The induction ceremony will

take place April 29 at the 2015

    USBC Convention in Omaha,

Nebraska, and wil l include those

    elected for Superior

    Performance.

A look at each of the newly-

    elected USBC Hall of Famers:

    Gus Yannaras

    The 57-year-old right-hander

has proven himself as a true team

player, and he'll now join three of

    his Open Championships team-

mates - Lennie Boresch Jr., Gary

Daroszewski and Dale Traber - in

    the USBC Hall of Fame.

    Yannaras' success at the Open

    Championships includes Regular

Team and Team All-Events titlesin 2009, a Team All-Events win

in 2000 and a Regular Doubles

crown in 1989. He has four addi-

tional top 10 finishes on bowl-

    ing's biggest stage.

    Yannaras and his Linds Limited

    teammates also excelled at the

    Brunswick World Team

    Challenge events, and his resume

    includes two BWTC victories

    and two additional top-five

    appearances.

    In Wisconsin, Yannaras has col-

    lected eight state championships

    and seven city titles, which

    helped him into the Greater

    Milwaukee Bowling Association

    (1998) and Wisconsin Bowling

    Association (2010) Halls of

    Fame.

    Sam Lantto

    Lantto, a 50-year-old right-han-

der, will be the second member

    of his accomplished USBC Open

    Championships team to enter the

USBC Hall of Fame. He'll join

    Todd Savoy, who was enshrined

    in 2005.

In 31 years on the Open

    Championships lanes, Lantto has

    earned 11 top-10 finishes and

been a familiar name on the

    event's 10-, 15-, 20-year and life-

time average lists, with a current

career mark of more than 216. He

has two titles to his credit, Team

    All-Events in 2002 and 2006.

    As a three-time member of

    Team USA (1993, 1994 and

    2003), Lantto collected nearly a

    dozen medals in international

    competition, including team gold

    at the 1993 Pan American

    Bowling Confederation

    Championships and a silver

medal in team at the World

    Tenpin Bowling Association

    World Championships in 2003.

    Lantto's continued success

    earned him spots in the

    Minneapolis Bowling (2004) and

    Minnesota State Bowling

    Association (2005) Halls of

    Fame.

    Fritzie (Trettin) Rahn

    Rahn, who hailed from

    Chicago, was a dominant per-

former on the lanes during the

    1920s and 1930s.

Her time at the USBC Women'sChampionships included eight

    titles, third behind her teammate

    Dorothy Miller, also from

    Chicago (10) and Emma Jaeger

    of Toledo, Ohio (9).

    Rahn earned her first Women's

    Championships crown in the

    1927 team event, captained her

    Alberti Jewelers squad to team

    titles in 1928, 1931, 1933 and

    1935 and led Logan Square

Buicks to an additional victory in

    1940, before temporarily step-

ping away from the game. She

    also claimed doubles titles in

    1930 and 1934.

    As successful locally as she

was on the national stage, Rahn

    collected 11 city championships

from 1928-1939 to go along with

four state wins in the 1930s.

Rahn earned a spot in the

    Illinois Women's Bowling

    Association Hall of Fame in

1969. She died in 1985 at the age

    of 89.

    Through 2014, there are 407

members of the USBC Hall of

    Fame - 271 in Performance, 116

    in Meritorious Service and 20

    Pioneers.

The USBC Hall of Fame was

created in 2005 by merging the

    former American Bowling

    Congress and Women's

    International Bowling Congress

    Halls of Fame.

THE MAGI C AT MAJESTI C Passaic Tech Boys, Westwood Girls

    Win Crusader ClassicBy Vince Albrecht

HACKENSACK, NJ - In the 4th annual Tom Irwin Memorial Crusader

Classic at Bowler City, Passaic Tech, North Jerseys pre-season second

ranked boys team, showed its depth in exploding for a 1163 finish to

wrestle the title from defending champion Montville, 3135-3022.

Competing without all-state junior southpaw Isiah Tolbert, the

Bulldogs rallied behind junior Anthony Rizzo who swept individual

accolades with a spectacular 253-203-288-744. Climbing on

Anthonys bandwagon were Michael Williams 227-638, John Silvestro

243-625, Austin Burtwell 207-214 and Antonio Napolitano 210.

Defending champion NJAC powerhouse Montville held a thirty-

seven pin lead after the second game, but despite a fine 1013 finish,

could only gape in astonishment at Passaic Techs record-smashing

ending. West Milfords quintet, looking to prove theyre better than

their pre-season ninth ranking, took the third place plaque with 2915.

Other individual award winners joining Rizzo were Montville sopho-

more Erik Kattermann 255-711 and Paramus Catholic senior James

    Kane 246-710.

In the girls division, pre-season second ranked Westwood held off

defending champ Paramus Catholic, 2385-2336 behind individual

award winning seniors Rebecca Davies 212-537 and Marissa Rivers

195-520. Taking third place was Holy Angels with 2034. Top individ-

BOONTON, NJ - In Stan Niemiec Youth Travel action, it was clear from the outset that this was

not an afternoon to be matched up against the Boonton team. Bowler City II tried its level best,

but were dumbstruck by the telephone numbers put up by its competition. The Boonton squad,

averaging a modest 695 net coming in, exploded for 865-732-894-2491, second best net team

scores of the season and their 3202 handicap set now leads the pack.

Breaking it down, 16-year-old Erik Kattermann shattered the maples with a league high 780

threesome, fashioned with singles of 257-259-264. 13-year-old Peter Hancock established per-

sonal top game/set marks-269-691 [238-184-269] and 13-year-old Drew Gille added scores of

211-202. Bowler City II put together a sterling 1013 handicap finish largely engineered by

Lyndhurst senior Emily Young 226 and Arielle Wallace 200, but the not-to-be-denied Boonton

team ran away from them with an 1131.yikes!

In other encounters, Nick Cilentos 277-214-683 capped an impressive Holiday I sweep ofshort-handed Bowler City III, 2904-2605. His team was relentless, all scoring well-Frank

Magyar 237-201-627, 14-year-old Ryan McGuire 206-202 and Lilly Sigona 188-551. BC III

posted creditable numbers-Nick Reyes 201-213, Gianni Calzadilla 190 and Derek

Lewandowski 182-180. Lodi rode the hot hand of 12-year-old Louis Ferrante 232-215-632 and

above-average scores from Ridgefield Park freshman Brandon Voorhees 192 and Devin Anello

+67 to a 3025-2826 five-point win over T-Bowl. The latter salvaged two points on the strength

of Matt Morris tossing 226-610 and Josh Spiegels 205.

First place Bowler City I turned back North Arlington, 2778-2572 behind James Kane 216-

202 and Kristen Kane 190. Vin Amatos 193 was top single for North Arlington.

Closing the session, Holiday II took seven points from Montvale, 2921-2728 behind Al

Chamberlains triple deuce 212-210-205-627. Also faring well were Tom Chamberlain 240,

Justin Milligan 200 and Devin Crowley 193. Pacing Montvale was Dan Sproviero 193-189, 12-

year-old Chris Torres 189 and 12-year-old Michaella Raab with three over-average games. Fair

Lawn, matched off against the vacancy, would have given Boonton a run and beaten the other

Stan Niemiec teams with its terrific handicap scores of 1042-1054-1094-3186, third best teamset to date. Fair Lawn freshman Tyler Nappi led the onslaught with 667 [217-237-213], Hassan

Izzard added 212-215-609, Madison Perry 211 and Katrina Plaszky a huge over avg +80.
