Montana Fish, Wildlie & Parks has scheduled ourpublic meetings along the Hi-Line in January to discusstentative hunting regulations or the next two years.  A total o 43 o the public gatherings are scheduledacross the state. In FWP Region 6, the meetings willtake place as ollows. Each will run rom 7-9 p.m.• Jan. 9, Sheridan County Library Jubilee Room,

Plentywood;• Jan. 14, Malta High School Caeteria, Malta;• uesday, Jan. 21, Valley County Courthouse

Community Room, Glasgow;• Jan. 23, Best Western Great Northern Inn, Havre.

At the meetings, FWP will present proposals to aid

the recovery o Montana’s declining deer populations byreducing opportunities to harvest antlerless mule deerand white-tailed deer.  Wildlie managers believe that Montana’s deernumbers are in decline statewide due to a number ounique circumstances — rom the cyclical nature omule deer populations to predation to disease, droughtand tough winter conditions.  For the next two hunting seasons, with a ewexceptions to address game damage issues, FWPproposes to:•

Restrict general mule deer seasons to antlered-only.• Eliminate most mule deer B, or antlerless, licenses.• Eliminate white-tailed deer B licenses in most o

central and northeastern Montana. Details on the proposed hunting regulations are

available on FWP’s website at wp.mt.gov by clicking onthe “2014-2015 Hunting Proposals” section. Te proposalsencompass hunting season dates and nearly every huntablespecies in the state, including antelope, black bear, bighornsheep, bison, deer, elk, moose, mountain goat, mountainlion, and a variety o upland game birds.  Comments may be submitted at the local meetingsor online at wp.mt.gov. For questions not covered onthe website, call 406-444-2612. Written comments maybe sent to:

FWP Wildlife Bureau  Attn: Public Comment  P.O. Box 200701  Helena, M 59620-0701  Comments are due by 5 p.m. on Jan. 24, 2014.Te Montana Fish & Wildlie Commission will takeall comments into consideration and adopt finalregulations in February.

Citing its strong character and imperial heritage, areport rom the local gentry confirmed uesday that whenconsidering a name or one’s son, one could do little betterthan Fritz, or it is truly a fine, fine name or a boy.  “Fritz is an excellent name or a young boy; a strongname; a virile name,” said local patriarch Karl Schönburg-Graetz, adding that any strapping young chap would beblessed to bear a Christian moniker with a pedigree as fine asFritz.  “For centuries, noble young boys have been namedFritz, and whyever not? It is a fine name, ideally suited to anyfirstborn son, such as my own, who is thusly called.”  Schönburg-Graetz went on to add that, as ar as namesor a boy are concerne d, Felix would simply not do.

Tese mid-week Holidays really threw me or aloop. I’d be sitting there drinking my morning coffee, thinking it was Sunday, but no........it was Christmas, then the ollowing week New Years........but it still elt likeSunday, so in the last couple o weeks I’ve had our Sundays, but only two Saturdays.........that just doesn’t seem air....and here it is Friday......I’ll get another Saturday afer all,and I’m just unwinding rom said Holidays listening tosome CD’s I received or Christmas.

Folks seem to know how much I like music.......sure

glad they don’t think I like ruit cake.  On about the third CD I started reminiscing aboutthe music I’ve enjoyed over the years, and how it’s deliveryhas changed.  As a kid it was radio, in those days that was a reallybig deal. Tere was no such thing as V, but there wasa whole world waiting or you on the radio. Te LoneRanger , every Wednesday night, Te Shadow, Fibber Magee and Molly , the list is pretty much endless, and ocourse the music.  One o the first “Big Hits” I remember is “How Muchis that Doggie in the Window.” Just thinking about itmakes the words run through my head........”the one withthe...”  “ennessee Waltz”........ ..

When I got a little older, I could buy records. 78’swere by then being replaced by 45’s........a little easier tocarry around, but not much. Your music kind o hadyou stuck wherever your music was. You could alwaysgrab a pile and go to a riend’s house but then you werestuck there. Car radios were good, but you couldn’talways find a station playing what you wanted to hear.Ten came the eight track. WOW!! I thought that wasthe end all.......it was pretty portable. Pop it in your Stereoat home or in the car, crank it up to volume ten..........now we were getting somewhere.........but you still had aproblem with selection........getting to that one or two cutsyou really wanted to hear..........the cassette came along, and portability increased ten old...........selection washorrible........ast-orward, rewind, start, stop, eject...........I

had ten thousand eight hundred and sixty two cassettes, and I got to the point I hated them.  With the advent o the CD I became convinced themusic industry was involved in a conspiracy to drain meo every last dime I had. Now I had to buy a CD player, anew car with a CD player, one o those walk-about thingsthat would play about a CD and a hal beore you neededto put in new batteries.........oh......and you had to buy the

CD’s. Once you’d spent a small ortune, yourportability was outstanding, you could pick

out any cut you wanted, lie was good.  WAS  being the key word here. aped

t o the top o one o my CD’s, was this little thing.......so I called the riend who had gifed me and inquired asto what this little “thing” was......... “a memory stick” hereplied........ and he proceeded to explain how it held yourMP3’s and the gadgets you could play it in and on......Iwas just about ready to tell him where he could stick hisstick.........when I breathed a sigh o relie. Te one thing

he had touted was a device you plug into a power outlet(ormerly called a cigarette lighter) in your vehicle, thenplug your memory stick into that, and you can hearthousands o songs on an FM station that the playerselects........amazing.  I breathed a sigh o relie because I was not going toall or this new trap laid down by the music industry........ ..not me........not this time. My primary vehicle has quitea ew years on it, multiply those years by hundreds omiles, and you’ve got a pretty much wore out mode otransportation. It came with and AM/FM 42 speakerstereo system..........that hasn’t worked in years..........I’mree.  ~ Hugh Morris
