A very familiar face at SS Robert & William Parish is that of Mary O’Neill. Mary is an Alum of St. William school and returned to teach both in SRW School and our Parish School of Religion in recent years. She is also an extremely active volunteer in many parish programs and events. Mary is an excellent example of the “Missionary Discipleship” we are called to in our faith. For the past few years Mary has also been taking Master of Arts in Theology classes at the Cen-ter for Pastoral Leadership and will receive her de-gree this spring.

In addition Mary has been participating in the Pastoral Ministry Training Program for the Diocese of Cleve-

land. She will be Certified as a Lay Ecclesial Minister on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist at 10:00 am. FJB’s Blog Dear Parishioners,

Happy Catholic Schools’ Week! This week we celebrate the gift of Catholic Schools in our world, country, Diocese, and right here at SRW! We are blessed to be operating a great Catholic School that ministers to over 460 children in PreSchool – Grade 8. Our school allows us to respond to the Church’s call as de-scribed in the document Catholic Schools on the Threshold: “ Young people of the third millennium must be a source of energy and leadership in our Church and our nation. Therefore, we must provide young people with an academically rigorous and doctrinally sound program of education and faith formation designed to

strengthen their union with Christ and His Church. Catholic schools collaborate with parents and guardians in raising and forming their children, as families struggle with the changing and challenging cul-tural and moral contexts in which they find themselves. Catholic schools provide young people with sound Church teaching through a broad-based curriculum, where faith and culture are intertwined in all areas of a school's life. By equipping our young people with a sound education, rooted in the Gospel message, the Person of Jesus Christ, and rich in the cherished traditions and liturgical practices of our faith, we ensure that they have the foundation to live morally and uprightly in our complex modern world. This unique Catholic identity makes our Catholic elementary and secondary schools ‘Schools for the human person’ and allows them to fill a critical role in the future life of our Church, our country, and our world (Catholic Schools on the Threshold, no.9)”

The testament to the school and our fulfilling our mission is found in some letters I recently received from our current 8th graders. They wrote to thank me for a bowling trip and were instructed to include what they appreciate about SRW School. I would like to share a few quotes with you so you can see how the support you give to our school has a lasting effect:

“I learned about worshipping God because before I came here I wasn’t really considering being religious. Now that I know more about the Catholic faith, I really think I will enjoy having a Catholic background.”

“When I leave SRW I will take respect and life skills with me.”

“Before I came to SRW I went to public school and I had never learned about God or Heaven. I never knew a book called the Bible and all the scriptures that are inside. That is one of the things I’m most grateful for.”

“I am grateful that we get to go to church every Tuesday, so that I may enhance my faith.”

“The teachers at SRW are very respectful and kind. They help you when you are sad and they encourage you when you’re insecure.”

“I enjoy being here. Everyone is lively and there is rarely a dull moment at this school. Everyone treats people with respect.”

“SRW takes so much time to thank our creator, God.”

“After leaving SRW I will be most proud of what great people I was able to be around, how I learned and bettered my education, and how I be-came a better all-around person.”

I share these quotes because I think it helps put into perspective how important Catholic education is in our parish. We are helping to create the next generation of leaders in our world with a solid Catholic Christian outlook on life. Thank you so much for all you do. I invite you to our Open House this week (see elsewhere in the bulletin details) and join us any Tuesday for all school Mass at 8 am.

Make it a great week.

See you in Church.

Peace,

Fr. John

SPIRITUAL FAITH FORMATION

A Letter To The Students

Before the new school year began, every teacher and staff member wrote a letter to the students he/she will be working with at Ss. Robert and William Catholic School. The letter includes the hopes and dreams each has for the students dur-ing the 2017-2018 school year. Every week, we will share one of these special letters. This letter was written by Mrs. Kristen Arko. Mrs. Arko teaches Kindergarten. Dear Class, I am so excited to be your Kindergarten teacher this year! I look forward to helping each of you learn and grow throughout the year. You are all so special and unique and I can’t wait to see what you bring to the class. I will always be here for you and to help with whatever you need. Let’s have a wonderful school year together! READY, SET, GROW!

Love, Mrs. Arko

Women’s Fellowship

Let’s face it : death is inevitable for our loved ones, and eventually ourselves. But death is just a step into the metamorphosis of the new creation God has planned for us all along. How can we accompany our

loved one through those last days and hours? So many ques-tions, so many emotions! SRW Women’s Fellowship is fortu-nate to have as our special speaker on February 10th (9-11 am in the Upper Hall), Frannie Murphy, an experienced hospice nurse with Hospice of the Western Reserve. Frannie will be sharing her experiences with us, and encouraging us to share our own personal stories. No reservations, just come! Call Renee Bar-ber 216.731.1515 ext. 262 with questions.
