JAY’S CORNER: PROPERTY MAINTENANCE UPDATES

The last few days there has been a touch of weather around. Even a snowflake or two fell. As areminder, property owners are responsible for keeping their sidewalks clear of snow and ice. Why,you may ask, would I mention this now when the most recent snow event was just a skifter atmost? There is a good answer for that. Rather than put it in the weekly Norton Commons Triviasection I will just give you the answer. There are some locations in the neighborhood whereresidential sump pumps discharge water onto the sidewalk. When the temperatures fall belowfreezing for and extended time, ice black forms. Or more accurately whitish gray ice forms. Thatstuff has been scientifically categorized as slicker than a minnow’s tail. Therefore, if your propertyhas such a situation it would probably be a good idea to pick up a bag of concrete safe ice melt andapply it to the dangerous area.

I had a response to my comment suggesting everyone to greet 2020 with a high, wide, andhandsome attitude offering something better for the new year. My colleague, Turley Ditchman, from the banks of the Lost River in Southern Indiana suggested that I not be so fat, dumb, and sassyfor the new year. Now I will say this about that’ This is crazy and that is a challenge. It may just besomething worth consideration. Maybe he will offer further help on deciding where I should start;fat, dumb, or sassy? One can’t usually do too much about dumb, it’s genetic. The other two mayoffer areas of personal growth, or as in the case of fat, personal loss! But, taking on even two of thethree items is a daunting task. I have kind of had my Popeye the Sailor Man Moment, I ams what Iams and that’s all that I ams.
