As I write this, we are days away from the year 2020! In high school, for me, the 21 st Century was lightyears away. “Big Brother” and “1984” were futuristic novels. Now we are starting the third decade in the 21 st Century! Funny how some things have changed and others have not. I don’t have a flying car, but I have a pocket size computer that is also my portable phone! One thing that hasn’t changed is mak- ing and breaking the New Year’s Resolutions. Someone said “The hope for the New Year depends more on You than the Year.” So, You. What is one thing you would change if you could? Take a mo- ment to ponder it. Here are some observations and advise from Philippi- ans 3:7-16. You may want to skim over this now and come back to read in detail after you read the rest of the newsletter. First, here are four observations about serious change: 1. Permanent change is inward. 2. For permanent change to happen, you need three things: 1) a true dissatisfaction with where you are, 2) an awareness of a bet- ter condition, and 3) the knowledge of how to get there. 3. It is crucial that you set a time of declaration. 4. Depend on continual strength and re-enforcement from God. Paul gives us a clue about how to become a new person in Philippians 3:7-16. Verses 7-11 tell us that we must have right priority. Verses 12-14 say that we need a right plan. He offers a three-fold plan: 1) Forget what lies behind. Forget it! That was then. This is now. 2) Strain for the future. Strain is a word we don’t often use, unless it is our backs. It’s a good word. 3) Press on for the goal. Persistence. Perseverance. Perspiration: Also, good words. Finally, verses 15-16 tell us we need the right attitude. So, if you are dissatisfied with where you are, and you know of a better place to be, you now have the knowledge of how to get there. You need to declare your intentions, and FROG (Fully Rely On God). Remem- ber: Right Priority, Right Plan, and Right Attitude. I’d say good luck, but luck has nothing to do with it. Oh, and you may think I was writing about you personally. Well, yes, it applies to you per- sonally, but I am writing to you as in “All you all” in the Glossbrenner body. Are we aware of a better place to be than where we are? Are we dissatisfied with past performances? We have a Biblical plan to get from here to there. I hope we are ready to declare that 2020 is going to be a year that changes things, not for the good, but for the great. All we have to do is our part, then look at God. There’s great potential here. Greetings again in the name of our marvelous Lord and Savior Jesus the

Christ! As I write this, we are days away from the year 2020! In high

school, for me, the 21st Century was lightyears away. “Big Brother” and

“1984” were futuristic novels. Now we are starting the third decade in

the 21st Century! Funny how some things have changed and others

have not. I don’t have a flying car, but I have a pocket size computer

that is also my portable phone! One thing that hasn’t changed is mak-

ing and breaking the New Year’s Resolutions. Someone said “The hope

for the New Year depends more on You than the Year.” So, You. What is one thing you would change if you could? Take a mo-

ment to ponder it. Here are some observations and advise from Philippi-

ans 3:7-16. You may want to skim over this now and come back to read

in detail after you read the rest of the newsletter. First, here are four observations about serious change:

1. Permanent change is inward.

2. For permanent change to happen, you need three things: 1) a

true dissatisfaction with where you are, 2) an awareness of a bet-

ter condition, and 3) the knowledge of how to get there.

3. It is crucial that you set a time of declaration.

4. Depend on continual strength and re-enforcement from God. Paul gives us a clue about how to become a new person in Philippians

3:7-16. Verses 7-11 tell us that we must have right priority. Verses 12-14

say that we need a right plan. He offers a three-fold plan: 1) Forget what

lies behind. Forget it! That was then. This is now. 2) Strain for the future.

Strain is a word we don’t often use, unless it is our backs. It’s a good

word. 3) Press on for the goal. Persistence. Perseverance. Perspiration:

Also, good words. Finally, verses 15-16 tell us we need the right attitude. So, if you are dissatisfied with where you are, and you know of a better

place to be, you now have the knowledge of how to get there. You

need to declare your intentions, and FROG (Fully Rely On God). Remem-

ber: Right Priority, Right Plan, and Right Attitude. I’d say good luck, but luck has nothing to do with it. Oh, and you may

think I was writing about you personally. Well, yes, it applies to you per-

sonally, but I am writing to you as in “All you all” in the Glossbrenner

body. Are we aware of a better place to be than where we are? Are

we dissatisfied with past performances? We have a Biblical plan to get

From the Church Treasurer To ensure the deductibility of your church contributions, do not file your 2019 income tax return until you have received a written acknowledgement of your contributions from the church. Some of your contributions may not be tax-deductible if you file your tax return before receiving a written acknowledge-ment of your contributions from the church.

Children & Youth Director News Matthew Davis, who has been our Children & Youth Director since 2016, is being called to take a position with Gretna Glen at the end of January. While we are sorry to have him leave us, we are grateful for all he has done for us and our children and youth. The SPRC and Administra-tive Board are seeking a candidate for the position which we have determined will now be part-time. If you know of suitable candidates, please let Pastor Brian know. The opening will be posted on our website and on the EPA job listing site. We are planning to have youth Sunday school, youth Bible study and other children and youth activities continue dur-ing the transition. We are praying that our fellowship will pray for us during this time and consider volunteering their time to assist in the children and youth activities. Please join us for a farewell luncheon for Matthew and his family on Sunday, January 26 following the wor-ship service. Cindy Forry, SPRC Chair and Lay Leader

Stewardship and Scripture “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life

does not consist in the abundance of possessions.”- Luke

12:15, NLT

Consider the idea: “Give the Master charge of your life in-

stead of giving your life to your Master Charge.” The Barna

Group, Christian financial advisors, says it is absolutely possi-

ble to be credit card debt free for most Americans within

three years of starting to reduce. If you are interested, ask the

pastor for details.

HERSHEY PARK/GIANT CENTER The following is a report from Marsha Gallo with the number of volunteers and the amount we made for working at Her-shey Park/Giant Center the 2019 year: The total amount raised this year by working at Hershey events was $4,833.10 and by my records this was the high-est amount we have made since we started working at Her-shey. I am so happy that we were able to give this money for our elevator/lift fund. The following members of Glossbrenner worked: Nancy Hopple, Wayne Kennedy, Barb Miley, Deb Nissley, Betty Robinson, Donna Smith, Jim Smith and myself. We also had some relatives and friends of Glossbrenner members work: Wendy Shonk and Holly Kauffman (daughter and daughter- in-law of Bertie and Wayne Kauffman); Mary Lou Berkley and Lynne Thompson (friends of Wayne Kennedy); Julie McCarty (my cousin); Jolene Hake and Joseph Sowa (friends of mine and also co-workers). Mary Buffington, Dave Buffington, Deb Clemens, Tenna Wise wanted to work at Hershey but did not have a group to work with. The Hershey Food & Beverage chairman knows that we are saving money for our elevator fund and as-signed these people to Glossbrenner; thus the money earned was paid to our church. If anyone would like to work for the 2020 year, please let me know and I will email you the schedule every time I re-ceive it. Thanks again for everyone that has worked and I hope and pray that everyone has a Blessed Christmas and Healthy 2020. God Bless. Marsha Gallo

I just wanted to say "Thank you” to the church for their mil-itary outreach program. I truly appreciate everything that you do for me and my family as we serve. We want to wish every-

one at Glossbrenner a Merry Christmas! Austin Kennedy Glossbrenner Church and the family that resides and praises the Lord together: Thank you so much for your very loving and generous gift. The children are so ex-cited about Christmas this year—finally old enough to understand fellowship, fam-ily, and love/giving. Thanks again and Happy Holidays! The Jeff Forry Family Thank you to my Church Family at Gloss-brenner for the Christmas “bonus” that was presented to me on Sunday, Decem-ber 22. Can you believe I’m in my 17th year as Secretary/Sexton—and 5 years before that as part-time Secretary! Where have all those years gone? I have been truly blessed to work for such a loving and supportive congregation. May God richly bless you all in the New Year. In Christ’s Love, Jackie Roberts

HERSHEY BEARS HOCKEY SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, March 28, 2020, the Fel-lowship Team is planning a trip to see the Hershey Bears play the Binghamton Devils. It Cost of the tick-ets is $22.00; park-

ing is $10.00 per car. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. Deadline for sign up is Sunday, February 23. Sign-up sheet is in the Narthex, or call Ken Ober at 717- 653-1072.

DISCIPLINE OF PRAYER

One of John Wesley’s famous quotes is: “I am not

afraid that the people called Methodists should ev-

er cease to exist either in Europe or America. But I

am afraid lest they should only exist as a dead sect,

having the form of religion without the power. And

this undoubtedly will be the case unless they hold

fast both the doctrine, spirit, and discipline with

which they first set out.” Prayer is one of the disci-

plines that John Wesley

(and Jesus for that mat-

ter) gave serious consid-

eration. Robert Hall not-

ed that “The prayer of

faith is the only power in

the universe to which the Great God Yahweh

yields. Prayer is the sovereign remedy.” May we

pray like lives depended on it. They do!

2020 OFFERING ENVELOPES The 2020 Offering Envelopes have been placed in the mailboxes in the narthex. If you are not on the rolls as a member, but would like to have envelopes so that you receive a state-ment at the end of the year, please see Jackie or call the church office 717-653-5683.

ALTAR FLOWERS FOR 2020 The altar flower calendar for 2020 has been post-ed in the Sunday school hallway. Please fill out a “Reservations for Altar Flowers” form and place it in the “completed

forms” envelope or call the church office at 717-653-5683. Instead of purchasing cut flower ar-rangements, you may make a donation (which will go into the general fund) in memory or hon-or of a loved one. The church’s silk flower ar-rangements (which will stay at the church) will be placed on the altar in lieu of cut flowers.

Stewardship Moment Sometimes a Christmas package comes

through the mail with “HANDLE WITH CARE”

stamped on it. We expect something fragile

and valuable to be inside, like crystal, a clock

or china. Well, Christian stewardship is like

that. We often receive packages from God.

His gifts are strength, talent, time, money, in-

sights, resources, abilities, relationships. You

may not realize it, but he always marks his gifts

“Handle with Care”. God says “Please accept

the gifts I give you. Manage them responsibly.

Share them generously. Put them to work for

my kingdom. I have so much to give you, if

only you show me that you know how to use

it.” All the world belongs to the Lord. May we

be found faithful stewards and competent

manages. Blessed to be a blessing!
