HIGHLIGHTSJanuary 2020

AMERICAN EXPERIENCE MCCARTHYMcCarthy chronicles the rise and fall of Joseph McCarthy, the Wisconsin senator who came to power after a stunning victory in an election no one thought he could win. William Breedlove Aspire Higher Campaign Co-Chair

John CallasAspire Higher Campaign Co-Chair

Dear WQPT Supporter,

As fellow community members, we share your appreciation for the important role WQPT plays in our Quad City region. Their entertaining and educational programming provides a higher quality of life, along with lifelong learning opportunities.

WQPT is currently working to resolve a years-long issue with their over the air reception. Hardly a day passes when they don’t receive a phone call, email, or letter with the same common complaint; “we can’t receive your signal.”

To resolve this ongoing issue once and for all, WQPT must raise the height of their broadcast antenna, and replace their television transmitter with a more powerful unit. These improvements will require an investment of $2.4 million. To accomplish these signal improvement goals, we have initiated the Aspire Higher fundraising campaign. For more than a year, WQPT has been quietly working on the leadership phase of the campaign. We are proud to have reached 87% of our funding goal, thanks to this amazing community. Now, we are asking for your assistance to raise the remaining 13% needed to accomplish the project.

This is the first time in WQPT’s 36 years on-air they have asked their supporters to go above and beyond their annual contribution. Your donation will assist WQPT in reaching 100% of their Aspire Higher goal, and allow them to purchase the technology needed to ensure their public service to the region continues, today and into the future.

Donating is easy. Located in the center of this month’s program guide you will find an envelope. Simply fill-in the requested information and mail the envelope to WQPT.

If you would like more information about the Aspire High signal improvement campaign, please contact Amanda Bergeson at 309/764-2400.

Our VisionAs we enter an important new chapter in our history, our vision is to aspire higher than ever before. Literally and figuratively. WQPT plans to make an unprecedented investment in new technology, critical upgrades and infrastructure improvements. A new, higher antenna with increased transmission power will strengthen our signal and improve reception dramatically throughout the viewing area. It will also assure our eligibility for inclusion on local cable and satellite systems. In short, a clear robust transmission will enable more regional residents to view WQPT programming with the same level of quality as the signals received from other area broadcasters.

Our OpportunityThe Aspire Higher capital campaign for WQPT represents more than a new tower with improved signal reception. It is an exciting new opportunity to better serve our viewers and our community. Soon we will be able to provide more children and parents with truly exceptional programming and outreach that will enhance the quality of their lives.

Our GoalYour investment will improve the reach and quality of WQPT’s educational, cultural and informational programming and community outreach today and for the future. We thank you, and all of our amazing supporters, for your many past kindnesses and for your consideration of continued support through this important campaign.
