Martin Member Highlight

NEW and exciting starting in 2019 is the Martin Member Highlight!

Each month The Martin Center will randomly chose a member to

highlight. To start our new highlight, this month Tish Fleming was

chosen. Tish was born on January 26, 1947 in London England. She

grew up in England, going to boarding school at the age of eight and

later the University of York England. There, she met her future

husband who was a General Practitioner, but immediately, they

immigrated to the United States where he did a residency at Mayo

Clinic in Minnesota. After three years in Minnesota they were ready for

the south and moved to Virginia; there, they lived on a farm and had

two children, Geoffrey and Tara Fleming. When the children were all

grown and had left the nest, Tish and her husband divorced. She then worked as an accountant

in Washington D.C. and Chicago. Meanwhile, her two children married and had grandchil-

dren. Geoffrey had three girls and Tara had two boys who are all now growing up themselves.

About ten years ago, Tish decided to retire early to spend more time with her grandchildren

and now lives with her son Geoffrey, his wife Amy and their three girls, Hannah, Virginia, and

Delaney in Nashville. Tara and her boys, Keegan and Luca live in Asheville, North Carolina.

Tish is a happy grandmother who is now close enough to see her grandchildren all of the time.

Tish plays bridge several times a week, and occasionally scrabble, and is thoroughly enjoying

her retirement.

Join us for a trip to the

Tennessee State Museum

The new Tennessee State Museum that sits on the corner of Rosa L. Parks Blvd. and Jefferson Street at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park can trace its roots back to a museum opened on the Nashville public square in 1817 by a portrait artist, Ralph E.W. Earl. A young boy who visited that museum in 1823 wrote home that he had seen a life-size painting of then General Andrew Jackson. That same painting is now part of the Tennessee State Museum collection. In 1937 the Tennessee General Assembly created a state museum to consolidate World War I mementoes and other collections from the state, the Tennessee

Historical Society and other groups. This mu-seum was located in the lower level of the War Memorial Building until it was moved into the new James K. Polk Center in 1981. It remained there for more than 35 years until, in 2015, Gov. Bill Haslam proposed a new home for the museum on the northwest corner of the Bicentennial Mall in Nashville.

The Tennessee General Assembly appro-priated $120 million to build the Museum, with the additional funding to complete the project to be raised in private contributions. The new Tennessee State Museum, encompassing 137,000 sq. ft. of administration and gallery

space, opened to the public on October 4, 2018.

Genetic Cancer Screening

This is a state of the art test, and can SAVE LIVES!! PREVENTION is the key, and is the way medicine is going. At this time,

MEDICARE is actually paying 100% of this test--this is just unbelievable and completely free. The only qualifications are

that you have to have a traditional red, white and blue MEDICARE card, and you have to have at least two people in

your EXTENDED family that have had cancer and both people have to either be on your mother's side of your family OR

on your father's side of the family--or you are also automatically qualified if YOU HAVE had cancer. It is only a swab in

the mouth. Call me, Meredith Ellis, if you have questions 615.268.1927. *check in at kiosk 01.07 Monday 9:30-2:00pm
