2017 EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR :
LUTCH A.
(Photo above left): Executive Director Sue Jordan announced the
Employee of the Year at the Annual Holiday Party on December 21, 2018.
(Photo above right): 2017 Employee of the Year Lutch A. poses with his award.
Congratulations to the 2017 Employee of the Year award
recipient, Lutch A. Sue Jordan, Executive Director, announced the
Employee of the Year at the Annual Holiday party in December. “I am
very proud of Lutch. He is a true jack-of-all-trades, and he really cares
about the Palo Alto Commons community,” Sue commented. Lutch is
currently the Staff Developer, and he has worked at PAC for over 15
years. Prior to being promoted to this position earlier this year, Lutch
had been an Activity Coordinator, a driver, and, most notably, the
Assistant Program Director in the Meadow Wing. “Lutch’s ability to
take on new challenges and responsibilities with a positive and eager
attitude is one of many reasons he truly deserves this honor,” Sue added.
Charito Amoranto, his current supervisor, adds, “Lutch’s impact on
staff development was immediate, and his role in helping to hire and to
train employees is a big and important one. He’s doing an incredible
job, as always.”
The Employee of the Year was chosen from all the Employees of
the Month for 2017. Some criteria include being dependable and
hard-working, displaying consistently exceptional quality, integrity
and ethic on the job, demonstrating outstanding customer service, and
exhibiting a positive and professional attitude.
Congratulations and Kudos to Lutch!

Let’s Get Physical! Is your New Year’s resolution to be more active and to keep
up your physical health? We will be keeping track of resident
attendance in our daily exercise class throughout this month, and
we will reward the resident who attends exercise class, the weekly
walking group, and the fitness room the most times throughout the
month of January with a special Fitness Award in February!
We offer many opportunities for residents to get and to stay fit,
so take advantage of the fitness programs and let’s get physical!
Also join us for our daily indoor walking groups.
Residents are encouraged to continue taking regular walks as part
of a healthy lifestyle. Walking indoors at Palo Alto Commons is a
great way to circumvent the cold weather. Of course, whether
indoors or outdoors, residents should always practice safe walking.
Calculation of the distance walked per lap around our hallways:
1 lap = 1/10 mile 5 laps = 1/2 mile 10 laps = 1 mile

Music Appreciation Lecture: Between the Notes!
Join us for a special music appreciation program with
Yvonne Boxerman, sister-in-law of resident Sura. We will explore
some of the world's great musical pieces
by delving into what the composer might
have meant, what you hear and what the
piece means to you. We'll listen to short
excerpts of major works and then discuss
these pieces. For example, there are
some whimsical musical expressions in
the Grand Canyon Suite and violent
evocations of war in Tchaikovsky's 1812
Overture. We'll explore how the composer
plays on our emotions in, for example,
Samuel Barber'sAdagio for Strings or
how Vivaldi portrays a particular mood in Summer from the Four
Seasons. This program does not require any prior knowledge of
classical music.
Yvonne Boxerman studied music, in particular the Baroque
Period, at McGill University in Montreal. She also played
classical flute for many years. Now, after retiring from several
careers in Education, HR and Administration, she can really
enjoy listening to, and appreciating, a world of wonderful music.
