Galesville Ladies Group Notes
We reviewed our Advent By Candlelight. We had about 50 guests. It was strongly suggested that next year we have a committee for helping to set up and take down. We also talked about moving the event to the preschool room. We could have possibly had more people attend but we ran out of room. There were 6 tables set up and many of the tables had 8 guests and a hostess. If the event were held in the preschool room, there would be more space for an extra table as well as space between the tables. A suggestion was made to put a curtain over the kitchen opening to help reduce the noise as the hostesses are plating. Another “pro” argument would be less running back and forth for the hostesses. These suggestions will be discussed next year.
Mary Gilbert is the contact person for gathering food items for the Live Nativity. She asked for donations of cookies, hamburger and hot dog buns. Thank you to everyone who donated food. A suggestion was made to offer car-pooling to First Lutheran. Julie and LaVonne offered to be drivers. Anyone who would like to car pool needs to be at Bethel by 3:15 PM on Sat. & Sun., Dec. 16 & 17. We were also reminded that people are needed at First Lutheran to help dressing people in costumes.
We will take down the Christmas decorations on Sunday, January 7th after services. We will begin with a pot-luck dinner and then take the decorations down. Please bring a dish to pass. Please consider helping us. Many hands makes the work less.

Arcadia’s WOW Group Minutes
Pastor Baerbock led devotions at the beginning of the meeting. The focus of the devotion was The Great “I AM”.
Sandy Witte gave a Treasurer’s Report. Curtains were purchased for the front storage room of the sanctuary. The storage areas were reorganized. A cabinet was moved to hold the paraments.
Advent By Candlelight was discussed. The decorations were beautiful. A special thank you to Rosa, Deb & everyone who helped put them up, Molly Klebig for providing the music, and Kerry Franks for writing the program. We had 75-80 guests. The weather helped out with attendance. Also hunting season was finished. We have received a lot positive comments. It was brought up that we need to purchase some sugar and creamer packets that stay at church. We might also want to consider getting some new pitchers for serving punch.
Recently there was a Food Pantry meeting. We need to get better tables to hold the food items. Pastor Baerbock said there is one at Galesville that we can have.
Donations of candy and other items are being asked for to fill the Christmas bags for the children.
The Christmas Eve service will be done by the children.
We will take the Christmas decorations down on Jan. 7th after Bible study. There will also be a potluck lunch for those helping. Please bring a dish to pass.
The next meeting will be on Jan. 3, 2018.

Bethel Elders’ Meeting Minutes December 11, 2017 -- Galesville Campus
The meeting was called to order by Fred Lintelmann at 6:00 PM. Elders present: Fred Mann Fred Lintelmann Mike Gilbert Keith Witte Martin Knudsen Also attending: Paul Koch (participation noted below); Pastor Cox and Pastor Baerbock
Pastor Baerbock presented an opening devotion: “Being in the advent season, who is this Christ…The Great “I AM?” Pastor provided a handout with over a dozen and a half biblical statements concerning Christ’s attributes.
Copies of the Secretary’s Report from the 10/30/2017 meeting had been previously distributed via email to Elders and also published in the December, 2017 Sonlight. Motion made & seconded to accept the minutes as presented -- passed. The agenda order was adjusted to bring up two items of “Old Business” (which involved Paul Koch, Board of Education Chairman) for discussion:
Strategy(ies) for preparing people (especially students) to defend their faith -- “world view” is a strong influence against God/Bible. Provide information/resources to counter this based upon science and Scripture.
Encouraging small group Bible Studies (especially for men). Groups would be “self- organizing” at times/places convenient for them. A resource list would be helpful for each group to select study material from.
Pastor’s Report: Pastor Cox: $12,777 was raised during the “Six-Week Giving Challenge.” This was graciously supplemented by a $10,000 matching gift. Proceeds will be distributed to the following areas: Arcadia CommUNITY Pantry; Bethel Debt Reduction; Bethel Evangelism Mass Media; and Luther High School’s Rise Up & Build Fund.
One baptism since our last meeting. Pastor Cox conducting adult instruction for a prospective Bethel member. 2018 Youth Rally will be held at the end of June (in Ohio).
Pastor Baerbock: Pastor & Karen continue with member visits. Youth participation in the Christmas Eve program (Arcadia) Dec. food pantry will be held on Dec. 21st (instead of the 28th) Old Business:
“Brothers and Sisters in Christ” (Obtaining baptismal dates and updating/verifying member contact information): on going
Elder position vacancies: It apparently will not work for the member (Arcadia) who had been considering the vacant Elder position. Keith will follow-up with another member.
New Business: Pastor Baerbock’s “Mission Presentation” May schedule local presentation sometime during
the first quarter of 2018. Special efforts will be done to encourage members and others in the community to join us for
upcoming special seasonal worship services.
Our next meeting will be at 6 PM on Monday, February 5th, 2018 (Arcadia campus). The meeting adjourned at 8:05 PM with a closing prayer.
