President’s Message

Dear RWOP members: I am so proud and honored to be your 2017 President! I will take this position seriously and to heart. As your 2016 1

st VP of Programs, I confidently hand over the program gauntlet to our

incoming 1st VP Julie Pettit. I also welcome the new 2017 Board of Directors knowing that they

are all so capable and enthusiastic to serve RWOP. I would be remiss in not thanking all of those who served on the Board in 2016 and who made the year a huge success! When the Board holds it first meeting of 2017 on January 10, I plan to share my goals with them and ask them for their input on how to best achieve them. The main goals are: 1) to connect with our valued members and promote camaraderie within the organization, 2) to recognize and increase our volunteer base in order to gain more active participation, and 3) to advance RWOP’s good name and deeds into the community. Our RWOP membership is what makes us strong and do we ever have strength in numbers! 2017 will be a year of challenges as Donald Trump takes office and implements his policies that are sure to be controversial to the Left. We will have opportunities to support him as well as influence the naysayers, media, politicians and the general public by encouraging them to join in to help make America Great Again! The RWOP missions includes…”RWOP is dedicated to the principles of the Republican Party…” and using our strengths by communicating our principles is perfectly in line with our Mission. I welcome your ideas and your participation! Become an active member, it has its rewards! To find out about volunteer opportunities please see Carie Hughes, 3

rd VP of Membership…you won’t be sorry. As we say, “Volunteers are not paid

because they are worthless, it is because they are priceless!” May you all have many blessings in 2017 as well as a happy, healthy and prosperous year! Warm regards, Linda Nichols, President

State & Federal Legislature – Sherrie Hanna

Americanism- Susan Cohen

Black Patriots and Our American History Jack Sisson (1743?-1821) was an African American patriot who served in the First Rhode Island Regiment during the American Revolutionary War. Bill O'Reilly featured this war hero in his Patriot series in "Legends & Lies" which dispels the many myths about the founding of our country. The series also reveals "the personal struggles of these iconic characters as they transform a regional conflict into a revolution that will define the United States...and change the entire history of the world." Blacks in the 18

th century were slaves, but some offered their services to General Washington to

fight for Liberty in exchange of their emancipation. Sisson was under the command of Colonel William Barton and was one of the key figures in the July 1777 capture of British General Richard Prescott. The forty troops led by Barton traversed British controlled waters to sneak up and capture Prescott. Sisson served as the pilot for one of the boats and also used his head to break down Prescott's door. The mission was accomplished without losses.
