    Secretarys Corner

Brothers, thank you again for electing me your Secretary for2012. I humbly accept this position and ask for yourcontinued support through the coming year.

Im in the process of doing two Trestleboards each monthinstead of just one. One Trestleboard will be more or lessabbreviated to save on costs of mailing and processing. Theother version will be the email version and will containadditional information about the Lodge and hopefully articles,

photos and maybe even advertising to help offset some of thecosts. All vital information will be in both versions such as thelists of officers and contact numbers, our committees and themonthly schedule. Also any Grand Lodge requiredinformation will be contained in both.

I will be seeking your inputs for the email version and I hopethat will cause more of our members who have email to signup for that version and continue to reduce our mailing costs.I am open to any other suggestions as to how we can makethe Trestleboard more informative and useful to ourmembership.

    Thanks again.Charlie

    Freemasonry and Brotherhood

The fraternity of Free and Accepted Masons has members from every ethnic group and every continent in the world. Brotherhoodis a primary teaching of Masonry--that each person must be judged as an individual, on his own merits, and that such factors asrace, national origin, religious creed, social status, or wealth are incidental to the person's character.

Freemasonry was brought to North America in the 1700s, a time when racial attitudes were very different from today. Ashappened with many churches and social organizations, these attitudes caused Freemasonry for African-American men todevelop independently. In 1776 a group of African-American Masons in Boston began meeting as a Lodge; they were formallychartered by England in 1784 as African Lodge #459. African Lodge and its descendants developed a separate Grand Lodgesystem, known as Prince Hall Masonry (after the first Master of African Lodge). Prince Hall Grand Lodges ascribe to the samebeliefs and rituals of Freemasonry as do all regular Masonic Lodges throughout the world.

Since a petition for membership in Masonry does not ask a petitioner's race, statistics on ethnic breakdowns are not kept by anyGrand Lodge. Collecting such information is considered as inappropriate as collecting information about a Brother's financialstanding. A lodge is not permitted to accept or exclude a candidate on the basis of his race or national origin. To petition formembership, the petitioner must be "a man of legal age, good reputation, and possess a belief in God." While election tomembership in the fraternity is a matter for the local lodge to decide, the qualifications for membership are standard, and allMasons are required to observe them.

Note: Deceased members are in italics

I think I may have missed some of the Past District Deputies from the deceased members but just count the number ofOrange Park Lodge members who have served, and/or continue to serve, in some sort of Grand Lodge office. I havent

even listed the appointed Grand Lodge Offices or Grand Lodge committees. Is this a record for a single Florida Lodge?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

Anyone having information to add to this section please let me know.
