January January January January 2010201020102010 From the Desk of the DOM:

“But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:20-24)

The beginning of this New Year is a wonderful opportunity to bring our commitments to our Lord Jesus up-to-date. All of us can purpose to grow in grace and to press on to higher ground. No matter how low we have fallen or how much we’ve grieved the Holy Spirit, we can begin again.

How do we start afresh? As our text says, we must go back to school, Christ’s school. It is all about obeying the Master Teacher. It involves “putting off, concerning your former con-duct,…and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” This clearly speaks of our way of life. It is like changing clothes. We take off the old and put on the new. We must not keep wearing the old worn out filthy clothes. As the New Year begins, let’s put on the new clothes of “true righteousness and holiness.” The old will not become the new. It must be discarded and replaced.

The verse that brought the great theologian St. Augustine to Christ was Romans 13:14, “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill it lusts.” May we all take advantage of Christ’s incredible invitation in Matthew 11:29-30, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

May the year 2010 be a brand new start for you. May God’s amazing grace abound throughout the BBA. Have a very blessed New Year. Terrell

Ever since Adam & Eve grabbed those first fig leaves to cover their nakedness, mankind has followed their example of cover up. The first couple

knew immediately after their sin that they were both naked and instantly felt the shame associated with their choice. Why is it that we cover our sin instead of confessing it? God warns us that "He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy." (Proverbs 28:13) Yet we easily fall into the trap of believing that we can sin and just continue on without suffering any consequences for our actions. God, in His infinite love and wisdom, gave us a conscience that quickly signals something is wrong. If sin was not foreign to the way God created us, the polygraph would not function the way it does. Not only did God give us a conscience but He also sent us the Holy Spirit to convict us of sin and the judgment that follows it. I am convinced that the sin of omission is one that the majority of Christians commit today and have become accustomed too. In general, we omit meditating on God's Word, we omit praying, and we omit sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. How many people have you shared the Gospel with this past month? My friends, we are so concerned about 'this or that' and people are going to hell all around us. Wake up! The trumpet is about to blow and all hope will be gone. Bro. Anthony
