Abstract During the long-term development of a field, the question often arises if seismic data can be squeezed further to bring more assistance to the production engineers. The decision of the way forward can draw from a number of strategies ranging all the way from simply doing nothing, to assigning new interpreters to get a "fresh viewpoint" from legacy data, to reprocessing and/or inverting those data, to acquiring a new state-of-the-art survey. President’s Corner by Richard Fossier

I hope everyone had a joyful and festive holiday season. Most of you are/were probably unaware of the problems we had in finding a speaker for the January luncheon. When we moved our original January speaker to March as part of our Third Annual Geophysical Symposium we left a hole in our schedule that was hard to fill because of the holidays. The good news is that we have contacted a number of speakers who are interested in speaking at some of our later luncheons and Mark Egan of WesternGeco/Schlumberger has stepped forward on short notice to give the January talk. Our venue at the Le Pavillon will remain the same through February but we will change in March for two reasons. The first is that the Le Pavillon cannot accommodate us on March 8th, 2007 and second our expectations that the March Luncheon / Geophysical Symposium will require a larger venue to support the agenda we have envisioned. Preliminary discussions with various companies, both operators and contractors that are interested in participating in the March Geophysical Symposium has been very positive. Everyone has their own take on the application of wide azimuth technology as it applies to marine towed streamer acquisition not to mention bottom reference

autonomous node technology. We as an industry could benefit significantly as this could possibly be the next evolution in seismic acquisition technology that would be very useful in the Gulf of Mexico. So please make preparations now to allocate your time to attend the SGS’s Third Annual Geophysical Symposium on March 8th, 2007. I believe it will be beneficial to your work as an exploration/development geophysicist. Please remember that in conjunction with the March Technology Luncheon/ Geophysical Symposium we will also be hosting our annual Scholarship Fund Raiser and Golf Tournament at Money Hill. It is presently planned that the golf tournament be on Wednesday March 7th, 2007, so start putting your teams together. For most of us 2006 was a good year for our industry and it doesn’t appear that it will slow down in 2007. There is money to spend on new and or emerging technology that will be beneficial in our daily work/duties. So I’ll close by wishing all of you a prosperous New Year both financially and personally. I look forward to seeing you at our January 11th, 2007 luncheon. Richard

2nd Vice Presidents’ Corner

It’s exciting as we look forward to a varied calendar of activities in the new year, something for everyone we hope. February is the monthly luncheon where the SGS Auxiliary is especially invited to join us. It is always a fun meeting with spouses who can converse on topics non-geophysical, neither convoluted nor band limited. Help spice up our meeting by inviting your spouse for the February 8th luncheon. March will be a busy month starting with the Annual Scholarship Fund Raiser, otherwise known as the Golf Tournament at Money Hill. Golfers start drafting your teams, there is a limited talent pool, I need not remind you! And parents and grandparents, now is the time to start encouraging your progeny and/or prodigies to apply for the SGS college scholarships. Help them further down the road to independence by earning this financial assistance from

our society for the hard work they’ve already put in to education. Send them to the SGS website for information and applications. The Technical Symposium on March 8th follows on the heels of the Golf Tournament at a site to be named later. For more on this see the President’s column on page 3. We are looking at a number of possible social events to round out the Spring and Summer, including among other things a possible Crawfish Boil, Zephyr Pool Party and Baseball Game, a Canoe Trip. Keep your eye on this column for more details in upcoming months. And see any member of the executive committee if you have suggestions for fun outings.
