Dear Parishioners, and Friends of St. Lawrence:

The scripture readings for today speak of God’s

lavish love for us. God never ceases pouring out on

us gifts. Gifts of mercy and compassion, and of

abundant generosity.

In the reading from Isaiah, God speaks to his

people who are suffering and feeling abandoned.

God reassures them with intimate terms of

endearment, “espoused”, “My Delight”, “rejoicing

like a bridegroom in his bride.”

The Gospel echoes this theme of lavish love when

Jesus turns water into wine at a wedding feast!

Ordinary elements are transformed into rich red wine.

Our lives, no less, are meant to be offered to Jesus,

ordinary as they may be to be transformed and

poured out as God’s rich and wonderful love on all

God’s people.

How can this be done in your life or in mine?

Consider Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. As baptized

Christians we have been given the very life of God

through the Holy Spirit. This Spirit gifts us in a

particular way to build up the entire Body of Christ.

We each might prayerfully consider, with what

have You gifted me, and how would You have me

serve?

In the next few weeks we will have sign ups for

small groups for Be My Witness. This particular

prayer and study will assist each of us in learning

how God wants to manifest the Love of Christ to

everyone we meet. God knows our gifts and for what

we are made. God’s love invites us to not hoard

these gifts but to share our story-- of how God uses

the water of our ordinary lives to bring about

transformation and the outpouring of the gifts of the

Spirit to each person we meet. Our hope is that each

will participate at some point in this formative

process.

PARISH MINISTRIES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

ADULT FAITH FORMATION COLUMN (Sue Wilhelm)

***ATTENTION PARENTS*** Last week we shared that in February we would like to

invite children from age 3-7 to participate in a special

Liturgy of the Word during the 10:00am Mass. Kelsie

Auk and Karen Hoffman, both students at Ball State have

volunteered to lead the children through readings from

the Children’s Lectionary and activities that are age

appropriate. Father will invite the children forward after

the Gloria, before the Readings and Kelsie and Karen will

take the children to the Rectory Living Room so they will

not have to go outside. The children will return at the

offering of gifts and participate in the rest of the Liturgy

with their family. Kelsie, the leader, introduced herself

in this space last week. Karen Hoffman describes herself

this way: I am a wildlife biology major at Ball State

University. I am from the little town of New Haven, just

east of Fort Wayne. I enjoy hiking, drawing, painting and

learning more about my faith. I am passionate about birds

and look forward to hopefully working at a zoo or state

park.

Ordinary days in the Household of God.

I am a member of the Household of God. God is head

of my household.

The ordinary days remind us why we celebrate the big

feasts in the Church. Our ordinary days can be full of the

mundane with work and errands and caring for family

members and school and volunteering. As we run from

one thing to another we may forget that there is One in

our household who never forgets us. Brother Lawrence

(not to be confused with our patron saint) wrote a little

book called, “The Practice of the Presence of God.” For

him, it was central to practice recalling the Presence of

God and he wrote about this in his journal and in letters

to friends. How can you encourage each one in your

household to remember God is present and truly the head

of your household? One way might be to simply say at

some point each day, “Recall the Presence of God.” Then

pause. Before a meal, or in the car before you drive off

are a couple of examples. Your household may think of

other times.

Contemplative Prayer group

If you would like to learn ways to deepen in your own

prayer practice, here is an opportunity. January 26th

we

will meet at St. Agnes after the 8:00 am Mass. (Coffee

and a lite bite will be provided.) Our prayer and study this

time will be on praying the Gospels and allowing Jesus to

lead us into silent presence with Him. We will finish by

10:00. It will be helpful to let Sue know if you can join

her. Drop ins also welcome.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

Our next class will be on Monday, January 21 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The session will conclude by 8:00 p.m. and will be held in St. Agnes Hall-the building directly behind the church which faces Hackley St. Use the side/alley entrance.

The next opportunity for Adoration will be this

Sunday, January 20, after the 10:00 a.m. Mass. If you are interested in joining our ministry, please contact Marilyn Sherrill at 765-396-3583 or 765-744-4086.

“Luke – Stories on the Road”

Presented by: Frank Runyeon They're some of the most famous stories ever

told: The prodigal Son; the Good Samaritan; The Sower

of Seeds. Stories we have heard many times, or have

we? In an evening that is both entertaining and eye-

opening, Frank Runyeon performs the famous parables in

Luke's travel narrative, and then pauses to reflect on how

we hear each story--and miss what it is really

saying. Frank Runyeon does what Luke himself did. He

starts with Jesus speaking in the synagogue at Nazareth,

and takes us on a journey to Jerusalem, so we can hear

these famous stories in order, and begin to hear what

Jesus was really saying.

Frank has received national acclaim for his work

as a translator and performer of Biblical texts over the

past 20 years. He has performed the Gospel for hundreds

of thousands of people in virtually every state in

America. He is a graduate of Princeton University with a

degree in Religion and American Studies. He wrote his

thesis on the Mass Media. He has also studied at Fuller

Seminary, Yale Divinity School, and the General

Theological Seminary in New York, where he received

his Masters Degree with honors.

You don’t want to miss this event!! Spread the word

to your friends and family and come and enjoy a special

evening!! www.frankrunyeon.com
