A review of reports received in the HOleOffice Indicates that front pump assembltes,Part No. 1540Q17 have been replaced where theconverter thrust washer has cut the statorsupport. Inspection shows, in a great numberot cases, only a Front pump Stator support andBackIng Plate, Part No. 1540923, was reqUired.

In cases where the converter thrust washerhas cut the stator support, the front pumpassembly should be disassembled and inspectedand only the necessary parts of the assemblyshould be replaced.

ISSSI 11IIIENGINE CUTTING-OUT ON LEFT TURN -COMMANDER AND PRESIDENT CARS WITHSTROMBERG CARBURETOR WW6-117,117A, or 117B.

Under certain condit10ns the engine may dieon a sharp left turn.

This can be corrected by using the air horngasket and baffle used on the superchargedcarburetors.

When the engine is hot, gasoline foa. may beeJected from the bowl vent tube lnto the airstream. This is caused by the float droppingon a left turn and allowing gasoline to enterthe float chamber under temperatures at whichthe gasoline is boiling.

The Air Horn Gasket, Part NO. 1543362, hasbeen designed so that the vent hole is not inl1ne with the bowl vent tUbe, also a Baffle,Part No. 1543363, has been released to be in-stalled in the bowl chamber between the floatand float needle valve. This baffle restrictsthe surge of gasoline from one end of the bowlto the other.

The carburetor model is changed froa.6-117B to 6-117C.

/f)_/ __.1 --ISSSS ~ •••••SPARK PLUG CABLES - 1958 PACKARDMODELS

Resistance type spark plug cables are usedon all 1958 Packards. This type cable reducesradl0 noise due to ignitIon interference. Theresistance type cables are identified by theletters "TVRS" stamped on the cables.

The TVRS spark plug cables have nylon cordsimpregnated with graphite as the electricalconductor. They are designed to provide a pre-determined amount of resistance for a givenlength, which is the radio noise reducingfactor.

The following is important from a servicestandpoint;

1. The insulation must not be cracked orpenetrated in any lanner.
