The Brentwood Voice of Business
I want to begin by expressing my gratitude to everyone for allowing me this wonderful opportunity to serve as the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce President for 2010. I look forward to collaborating on the important needs of our Brentwood businesses by remaining open to new ideas, new processes and new thinking.
Whether you are an individual, a business or a community organization, changing and growing is always a challenge, particularly in these current times. We all are aware that when we fail to sustain growth, or change with the times, we soon begin to fall backwards.
Stop for a moment and ask yourself these few simple questions:
1. Do I have clarity on what’s next for my business?
2. Do I leverage my professional strengths?
3. Do I effectively execute my business plan?
4. Am I having the impact I desire?
If you answered “no” to any of these questions, we encourage you to attend the many seminars and workshops scheduled by the Chamber. Think about using the Chamber website, directory, newsletter and other media to showcase your business. Our advertising rates are among the lowest available and focus on other businesses fostering a business-to-business relationship.
We encourage you to:
1. Help the Chamber’s visibility continue to grow by referring residents and businesses to the Chamber when they are
seeking products and services.
2. Encourage those who are not members to invest their time and resources by becoming Chamber members as well.
3. Get involved by attending events and perhaps joining a committee.
4. Use the Chamber’s resources to find out about other services offered, area demographics, history of the community,
and a wealth of other timely and helpful information.
As we look towards 2010, the Brentwood Chamber, Board and Staff are excited! We see many new opportunities on the horizon. Our membership continues to climb and new businesses open their doors daily, seeking advice from other successful Chamber members.
Let’s face it Brentwood is a great place to live, work, play and raise a family. One of the goals of the Brentwood Chamber is to compliment the livability of Brentwood by promoting a prosperous and healthy business community while keeping the Small Town atmosphere that makes us so special. People outside of the community are sitting up and paying attention to Brentwood because we are clearly able to deliver on what distinguishes our community from others.
The Chamber exists for YOU, and because of YOU. Please accept the Chamber’s THANKS for making it happen.

Mission Statement: The Brentwood Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary organization dedicated to the promotion of the civic and commercial progress of the community. We will continuously strive to maintain and foster a healthy business climate for Chamber members and the entire community.
Business and Citizen of the Year
The Brentwood Chamber of Commerce will be honoring the 2010 Citizen of the Year, Rick Lemyre, and the 2009 Business of the Year, Harvest Park Bowl, at our 2010 Annual Awards Dinner on January 30, 2010. Both Citizen and Business of the Year awards were announced at the December 18, 2009 Holiday Mixer at the Senior Center in Brentwood.

I joined the Bentwood Chamber in November 2008. My first six months with the Chamber I was a name in the directory, that was it. I attribute it to the intimidation factor. Walking into a Chamber mixer not knowing anyone in the room and having to work the room introducing
myself wasn’t the way I wanted to spend a Thursday night. So after six months I decided to take a step out of my comfort zone and get involved. I contacted Harry York, the Chamber CEO. After we talked about my concerns he suggested I look into becoming a member of the Ambassadors Committee.
Ambassador Committee members meet once a month to discuss a variety of topics. Upcoming events: Mixers, Ribbon Cuttings, Brown Bag Luncheons, and local current events, just to name a few. We also contact new members to introduce ourselves, as well as invite them to mixers and other events. With existing members we drop off new Chamber directories to put a personal touch on their membership. This gives us as committee members an opportunity to start building relationships with new and existing members on a one-on-one basis.
If you have some of the same concerns as I did, I believe joining the Ambassadors Committee is a great place to start. I would encourage all members to get involved. You’re paying an annual membership fee, so you might as well make the most of it. Now when I attend Chamber events I feel much more comfortable talking with other members and introducing myself as a local business owner.
As for my business, I own E. S. McKnight Insurance Agency. I offer a variety of insurance products ranging from group health insurance and employee benefits to individual insurance products: Home, Auto, Life, Annuities, Long Term Care, and 401K rollovers. I only broker with A+ rated companies, this gives all my clients peace of mind knowing they are receiving a quality product with a competitive price. On December 18, 2009 the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce held their Holiday Mixer hosted by the City of Brentwood at the Brentwood Senior Center. At this event the winners for the 2009 Business of the Year and the 2010 Citizen of the Year awards were announced. The Brentwood Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an Annual Awards Dinner on January 30, 2010 to honor both Rick Lemyre and Harvest Park Bowl. We also like to say Thank You to the many businesses that donated raffle prizes, toys and food. A special Thanks to the many Ambassadors and Directors who volunteered to help make the even a huge success.
