Janice Byington has been licensed to practice law in Texas since 1998, and her primary practice areas include civil litigation, health law, personal injury and professional liability. Janice has represented physicians, dentists and nurses before their respective boards, and has defended hospitals and various health care professionals against liability claims. She brings a unique and client-centered perspective to the firm’s health law practice, having been employed as a Registered Nurse for over 10 years in both adult and neonatal critical care units before pursuing her legal career.
In addition to her focus on health care, Janice has represented various businesses in litigation claims concerning product liability, premises liability, construction design/defect, and other forms of product liability. Noteworthy cases include defending manufacturers in complex multi-party lawsuits regarding toxic tort litigation (asbestos), and defending automotive parts manufacturers against claims of defective seat belts, air bags, and door latches. Janice has also prepared insurance coverage opinions/letters to or on behalf of insurance companies.
Janice received her J.D. (cum laude) from Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1998, and holds a B.A. (summa cum laude) from Texas A&M University. Her work has been recognized with the Corpus Juris Secundum Award for excellence in torts.
Janice remains active in the legal community through participation in the Austin Bar Association, DRI, and the Texas Association of Defense Counsel. She also enjoys volunteering at her children’s high school and, in particular, supporting the high school’s marching band program.
