"Jambo Bwana" in Swahili means "Hello Mister". It is also one of Kenya’s most internationally known pop songs. Kenyan band Them Mushrooms first released “Jumbo Bwana” in 1982. The song became a huge hit in Kenya and reached platinum sales status in 1987. “Jambo Bwana” was later covered by a number of other groups and artists, including Mombasa Roots, Safari Sound Band, Khadja Nin, Adam Solomon, and Boney M. The lyric in this song may have been the inspiration for the Lion King hit "Hakuna Matata", which was released in 1994.
