MulVcultural PerspecVves Public Speaking compeVVon It is that 5me of the year again when we encourage all of our Stage 2 and 3 students to enter the Jamberoo round of the Mul5cultural Perspec5ves Public Speaking compe55on. Last year 2,000 students in NSW took up the opportunity to prac5ce their public speaking skills, heighten their awareness of mul5cultural issues, and improve their confidence. Will you be one of them this year?
What are the speaking requirements? At each stage of the compe55on contestants present both a prepared speech and an impromptu speech. For their prepared speech, contestants must choose a topic from the list of mul5cultural that follow. The prepared speech must have mul5cultural content. The impromptu speech is chosen by the adjudicator on the day, and will be on a general, non-‐mul5cultural theme. Contestants will have 5 minutes to write their impromptu speeches. The speaking 5mes for each speech and division are outlined below:
Year 3 and 4 prepared speech – 3 minutes; impromptu speech – 1 minute Year 5 and 6 prepared speech – 4 minutes; impromptu speech – 2 minutes
What do I talk about? This year the topics are:
Years 3 & 4 Topics 2016
The same but different Bullying Racism -‐ it stops with me Kids can make a difference The meaning of Australia Day When does a migrant become an Australian? Every family has a story The Olympics -‐ bringing people together Recipes for harmony You, me, us
Years 5 & 6 Topics
Respect Words can hurt My iden5ty Refugees Mul5culturalism online Boundless plains to share Stronger together Global connec5ons Re-‐Reclaim Australia "Boo" to racism in sport
When do I need to present my speech?
We will be holding our internal Jamberoo compe55on to decide who will represent us at district on the week star5ng Monday 30th May. If you are interested in par5cipa5ng or would like further informa5on please don’t hesitate to speak to Mrs Behl-‐Shanks. The district level of the compe55on, for our top two speakers from Stage 2 and Stage 3, will be held on the 7th June at Mt Terry PS.

P&C Blurb I encourage parents to come along to our P&C mee5ngs, which are held in Week 3 and Week 8 in each term. Our mee5ngs run for two hours, and we value your input in making decisions that improve our wonderful school. Please read on for a summary from this week’s mee5ng.
• Megan Collins is seeking volunteers from year five parents to form a commiaee to organise the Year 6 farewell dinner. Please contact Megan via megan@pool-‐room.com or 0407 940 511.
• Rob Poole has enlisted a few fathers to ensure our long jump pit will be ready for athle5cs carnival, thanks Rob and dads for your 5me.
• Nicole Poole and volunteers held a very successful Mothers’ Day stall raising $530.00 for the school. Thank you Nicole and volunteers, I am sure there were many happy mothers in Jamberoo.
• Walabi loose change fundraiser comes to an end this Friday, I hear that some classes have already started on a second jar! Wow.
• Tania McInnes and Megan Buckley from Wurrata have a very exci5ng fundraiser planned for Term 3, watch this space! • A discussion was held around the Grandparents’ Day BBQ. It was agreed that kindergarten will not be allocated this
fundraiser going forward. Grandparents’ Day is the first showcase event of our school's calendar year and it is a special day for kindergarten students and their families as we welcome them into our school culture.
• We are considering holding a sausage sizzle fundraiser on the 2nd July, vo5ng with a smile (Federal Elec5on Day). • Naomi Poole has been very busy following up on Grant Applica5ons in an aaempt to secure funding for the proposed School
Hall Stage Curtains. We have a plan and a quote that staff and P&C are comfortable with. Further discussion is to be held by Staff to check the func5onality of the plan before the final decision is made. A huge thank you to Naomi (with assistance by Tania McInnes), for her efforts in chasing funding for this important project.
• Jackie Hall is looking at the cost effec5veness of hiring a bus to transport students and parents to school excursions such as SIMF and Southern Stars. Further informa5on will be available at our next mee5ng.
o A working with children check must be forwarded to the school if you are transporVng students to and from school events in private cars who are not your children. This was part of the principal report, and requirements are set out at the end of the newsle`er.
Thank you to the parents and teachers who aaended our mee5ng, discussions, brainstorming and laughter shaping into posi5ve sugges5ons and decisions. If you have any ques5ons or would like to know more, please email us at [email protected].
Regards Susan Mills P&C President
Kindergarten 2017
Our numbers for Kindergarten 2017 are looking fantastic at 21 possible enrollments. If you know of any student that will be enrolling at Jamberoo Public school in 2017 please ask their parent/carer to contact the school. I have delivered enrollment packages to Jamberoo Preschool or if you prefer you can collect one from the office. I know 2017 may seem a long way off but we need to start this process so we can see our actual student numbers for 2017. Your earliest return of the completed enrollment forms would be greatly appreciated.
Yamaha English Primary Tour I ________________ would be willing to host 2 students from Yamaha English
Primary School from the 1st – 3rd of August, 2016.
I understand that further information will be provided as it becomes available to the school.
