The Creator is not Heedless

By Sheikh Ali

Allah has vividly told us in His last Book, the Qur’an that He created us and Jinn for His worship only. We read in Surah 51, ayah 56 “I have not created Jinn and mankind except that they should serve Me”

Among the rendering services to Allah in the broader meaning of worship or service is to embrace the divine degree wholeheartedly. Our Almighty Allah stated in Surah 2, ayah 216 “---And it may be that you dislike a

thin while it is good for you and it may be that you love a thing while it is bad for you, and Allah knows while you do not know”

It is natural that we do not like to be put on fitnah or to be tested with some difficulties and crisis. The father of the prophets Ibrahim (pbuh) asked Allah not to make him and his followers a trial for those who have

different belief than theirs. Indeed, The Qur’an is imminent that Allah will not leave us to claim that we believe in Him without

demonstrating that when He tries us. How can we demonstrate that? We can show that by the following ways:

1. Realizing that the trial came from Allah

2. To be patient as Allah guided us in Surah 25, ayah 21 “ We have made some of you a trial for others; will you be patiently? Furthermore, Allah stated in Surah 2,45 “And seek assistance (from Allah) through patience and Du’aa”

3. To believe that the challenges that you are experience is an opportunity for you to go back to Allah re-establishing a good relationship with Him 4. To believe that the trial you are going through may be better for you in near future or far future

5. Allah does not do any injustice to His creatures 6. Allah is not Heedless about what the wrongdoers are doing

7. Finally, a test or fitnah is temporary and you will overcome it with flying colors provided you behave according to teaching of Allah and His messenger Muhammad (pbuh)

Please join us in welcoming o ur new trustee elect, Nawa Qureshi by the board.

He is replacing Br. Saleem Qureshi whose term ended in 2016.

Nawa Quraishi has been a participating member of this community since its

inception in late seventies. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical

Engineering and a Master’s degree in Industrial/Manufacturing En gineering

from Kansas State University. After completing his education, he joined Ford

Motor Company in 1972 and currently retired from Ford and lives in Canton,

Michigan.

We sincerely thank Br. Saleem Qureshi for his t ime, service and commitment to

the MCWS Board of Trustees.

Challenging the Muslim Ban Saves the Soul of America

By CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid

The recent unanimous decision by three judges in the 9th circuit court blocking President Donald Trump’s ex-

ecutive order, or Muslim ban which prevented refugees and visa holders from entering America from seven Muslim

majority countries, is a good sign for permanently overturning the order. Though many Americans of varying creeds

and ethnicities continue to raise objections over this specific order, we m ust remain vigilant regarding other means in

which he may attempt to bypass this ruling in the form of other future executive orders.

Beyond Mr. Trump, we should hold every elected official accountable, be they on the Right or Left, to take a

stand against any laws or policies which violate the spirit of Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution. The clause

is an American principle by our founders that none should be singled o ut upon public policy favoring certain religions

to the exclusion of another. On one hand, the lukewarm reactions or silence from some elected officials is a betrayal to

the values our nation. On the other hand, elected officials who favor the ban such as Michigan Attorney General Bill

Sch utte, an official who is responsible to uphold the Constitution, have a questionable fitness to hold public office in

relation to enforcing equal protection under the law.

The legal challenges of the executive order will play out in court. It will no doubt make its way to the Supreme

Court. This exemplifies the beauty of our governmental system which has checks and balances through the Judiciary

Branch on the Executive Branch. However, beyond litigation from states and civil rights groups, Americans need to

summon the moral courage to create a national moral compass in the face of anti-immigrant sentiments.

Our nation has witnessed a n umber of xenophobic laws and federal policies, from the Chinese Exclusion Act of

1882, the Immigration Act of 1924, which blocked immigration from much of the Muslim world for 41 years, to Jewish

refugees fleeing Nazi Germany that were blocked entry in 1939. We have said, "never again" to the bigoted exclusion

of certain immigrants and refugees, yet our country repeats the same travesties.

We all need to stand together and proclaim to our elected officials that enough is enough of anti-immigrant and

bigoted policies, such as President Trump's Muslim exclusion order, that harms the very soul of our nation.

The vi ews and opinions expressed in this article are those of the author(s ) and do not imply endorsement by or necessarily re-

flect the views of the Muslim Community of the Western Suburbs, its members, staff, or board.
