Jai Jinendra, It feels so good to see the temperature above 60 Deg. F in the Detroit area. After enjoying “April Showers, May Flowers”, summer is knocking at our door. We have also planned activities keeping the weather in our mind. First, here is the summary of the events held at the temple in the last two months: • Our first major event was the celebration of Mahavir Janma Kalyanak (4/19). The
program consisted of a Snatra Puja led by the religious committee, recognition of
the US Congressman, Mr. Gary Peters and staff, and BOT & EC presentation,
followed by Swamivatsalya lunch. Approximately 575 members attended the
program. This year we made few changes to the format and was well received by
members. The top five feedbacks were (not in order):
o Introduction of Biodegradable products for lunch
o Introduction of centrally located Refill station
o New concept of collecting trash – Trash Station
o Food
o Adoption of the new format for presentation to the members helped us
to conclude the program on time and per our agenda.
• Scholar Sh. Girishbhai Shah (from California) conducted the Swadhyay session
(4/21 to 4/26) for our members. He covered the Swadhyay topic on “Samadhi
Satak” and the general topic of “Sukrutiyoni Anumodana”.
• 26th Student’s Annual Day Program (5/3) was a grand success. More than 100
students participated in the flawless event. The hard work of the students, parents,
volunteers, teachers, and administrators was very visible. We would like to thank
the “Non Parents” for attending and encouraging the future generation of the Jain
Society.

Monthly Bhavana H
Continued from Previous Page… • Again, a handful of people attended the Monthly Bhavna (4/17 & 5/8). We would
encourage members to provide suggestions and ideas on how to make the
monthly Bhavna more interesting.
• Monthly Hindi Puja (5/17) was conducted at the temple. We encourage all
participating members to sponsor the Hindi Puja at the temple. You can add your
name at the temple bulletin board or contact Shri Purushottambhai Deo.
• Scholar Smt. Tarlaben Doshi (from India) conducted the Swadhyay session (6/1
to 6/5) for our members. The topic of “Moksh Marg” was presented during her
visit.
• Yoga classes are being conducted by Ruby Mehta and Christina on every
Saturday for one hour. They both are offering their volunteer service for almost
three months now.
As announced during Mahavir Janma Kalyanak Mahotsav program, we are preparing the bid to host the JAINA convention in July 2011. Please read the later part of the Jain Vani to find out more details. It feels so good to put aside our winter gears. With summer approaching, we are requesting everybody to please review the “Dress Code Policy” for our temple provided in this Jain Vani. We have sent the latest member statements in the mail. If you have not received it or have any question regarding this statement, please call Pravin Shah (248-244-9576) or Jaimik Shah (248-943-8912). One of our goals is to identify all the ongoing or new issues and resolve it within 60 days. Eleventh Temple Anniversary celebration will be from June 12-14 with Narendrabhai Nadu and his group. Please see Jain Vani for a more detailed description about the program. We still have a few slots open for 18 Abhishek and Dhwaja Ceremony. Please contact Pankajbhai at the temple to add your name. Don’t forget to attend the Father’s Day Picnic (6/20) for lots of fun, food, and activities for all age groups. 100% Satisfaction, Guaranteed!!! Thanks & Jai Jinendra! 2011 JAINA Convention JAINA (Jain Associations in North America) holds a national convention every two years in various Jain Centers in North America. This is an important gathering of Jains from USA, Canada and from around the world. The primary purpose of these conventions is to strengthen our unity and facilitate a dialogue to enhance the observance and practices of our core principles for the current and future generations. JAINA has invited all Jain Centers in North America to bid to become the host center for the 2011 convention to be held during July 1-4, 2011. Our society is one of the premier Jain Centers and, we believe, is capable of hosting such an important national event. We have already sent in a letter of intent to bid for the 2011 convention. EC/BOT has established an exploratory committee (see below) to pull together the required information and prepare a bid packet for submission to the JAINA Executive Board. This committee of 14 members, under the guidance of Vastupal Shah and Niranjan Shah, has been meeting regularly to develop the details of the proposal. Vastupal Shah Pritish Shah Niranjan Shah Jinansh Shah Reenal Shah Arvind Shah Manish Zaveri Pratiksha Shah Nalin Shah Kamal Jain Jayesh Mehta Manish Mehta Ajay Dagli Rajiv Shah It is expected that the bid packet will be finalized by mid June and will be sent to JAINA after review and concurrence of EC and BOT. Dress Code for the Temple
Our temple is an integral part of our lives. It provides us an opportunity to perform our religious activities, maintain our cultural heritage, enhance us spiritually, teach our kids Jain way of living through study class.
The purpose of us coming to temple should be very simple and very unanimous. It is to perform the Darshan – Puja – Dhyan – Think about our individual soul and our intense desire to achieve something beyond the life cycle. First step to progress on this path is to facilitate all the members coming to temple in this process without any distraction other than Darshan.
We all should strive to maintain the sanctity and the piousness of our temple. It will provide respect well as maintain the dignity of the place. Therefore, it is highly recommended that people visiting the temple observe the following dress code:
1. All clothing should be well below the knees. Shorts, Capris & Skirts just barely covering the knees are not desired.
2. Clothing should not be Sleeveless, Skin-tight or Transparent.
3. Do not wear Black color clothes while performing Puja inside Ghabhara area.
4. Observance of these guidelines should be followed by all adults and youths who are 12 years of age and older.

Jain Study Class Corner
Quotes for the month: “We wish to help our friends in a great way: but such opportunities come seldom. Let us do little acts of service every day. And the good we do will never pass away!” “To have real fun we must surprise others by being extra loving and kind to them!”
2009 Annual Day Program – We had study class students Annual Day program on May 3rd. Program was well attended – 400 plus members including 120 participants. Feedback has been excellent with warm compliments for participants, teachers, coordinators and all the volunteers. We thank all the attendees, students, teachers, and parents. Total 12 groups presented the stage items like dance, skits and debate based on Jain principles. These items were based on what they have learned in the class. The participants were recognized by presentation of trophies. The last and most favorable item of the program was a delicious “Bombay Bhel” for adults and Mexican food for students and a nice Ice Cream desert. Request to all the readers – We need your input to improve the program and take it to one notch higher. Would not you help us? Please send your comments/suggestions to [email protected] or bring it during the study class. Sutra and Stavan Recital Competition – Our next exciting plan is to have a Sutra and Stavan recital competition among study class students. It will be scheduled sometime in July. For registration and dry run the student has to see Vinay C. Shah or Mahendra J. Shah in next study class. More info will be given at a later date or keep watching bulletin board. Guest Speaker – Pranali Koradia – past student of Jain Study Class – recently visited India and worked as a volunteer in the rural area near Baroda for Deepak Foundation learning and helping the organization to assist village people especially to safeguard pregnant mothers and unborn babies against unexpected mortality. It was a humbling experience for her and she shared it with study class attendees during last class of May. For further information please contact Koradia family (Pranali). Three CHEERS for Pranali.
