We’re pleased to announce that we will be hosting a Shooting Sports Coach Certification

Training for Archery, Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun in Ellis County (Waxahachie area) on

May 16-17, 2015. This training is open to any potential coaches across the state. Registration will be conducted through 4-H Connect.

Registration will be open April 1, 2015 and closes May 4, 2015.

Cost is $120

Registration will cover meals and course materials.

Only one discipline certification (archery, pistol, rifle, or shotgun) is obtainable per participant per training.

Lodging will not be provided for registrants.

Event will begin at 8:00am on Saturday, May 16 and tentatively end at noon on Sunday, May 17, 2015.

Tentative schedule, what to bring list, and release forms attached. Additional details will be sent to those that register.

2015 Texas 4-H Photography Contest Website: http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/statephotography Theme: The theme is “Inspiration”. This year the theme will focus on pictures of subjects

that move and inspire YOU. Photos can include photos of leaders, mentors, family, friends,

things in your community, school, church, or across the country and world. Examples in-

clude images of family members, a leader/teacher or someone that you look up to, some-

thing in nature, or things that give you daily inspiration. Changes: Due to past issues with

photographs not be sized or formatted correctly, the contest now has a size criteria. All pho-

tos must be 8”x 10″in size. Photos should be at least 800 pixels by 1000 pixels. The ideal

8×10 quality is 2400 pixels by 3000 pixels, which is the same as an 8×10 photo at 300 dpi

(resolution). Higher variations of the 8×10 ratio are allowed but the final file size may not be

larger than 2,048k (2MB). Entry Period: April 1, 2015 to April 15, 2015 through 4-H CON-

NECT

The 2015 State Fair of Texas 4-H/FFA Lamb & Goat Program has set a deadline for

ordering tags. You must order them by April 15, 2015. They are $10.00 each. Tag

orders after April 15th will be allowed, but will cost $20.00 each.

The 2015-2016 Texas 4-H/FFA Steer Validation Program planning time is here for all

major shows.

The deadline for ordering tags is Thursday, April 23, 2015.

The cost for 2015-2016 Texas 4-H/FFA Steer Validation tags is $10.00 per tag.

Any additional tags ordered after April 23, 2015 will be $20.00 per tag. Late tags can be

ordered until June 22, 2015

Lodging and Meals Options

$100/person—two nights and 5 meals

Lodging is available and encouraged for contestants and non-contestants

Dorm lodging is for Friday and Saturday Night

3 meals on Saturday and 2 on Sunday

Non-contestants must register on 4-H Connect in order to select and pay for lodging

and meals (must be selected/paid for in advance).

Adults choosing to lodge on site, must be actively enrolled on 4-H Connect. Please

note that background screenings may take up to 2 weeks, so please plan accordingly.

that is both healthy and tasty. If you would like a quick video

2015 4-H Recipe Rally Information is on the 4-H Healthy Lifestyles Webpage.

In the 4-H Recipe Rally, 4-H members are challenged with selecting, creating and/or altering a reci-

pe and submitting a video of them demonstrating the preparation of the recipe. To participate, youth

will submit their video entry online for a chance to be selected as a presenter at the Dinner Tonight

with Texas 4-H Cooking School, held at the 2015 Texas 4-H Roundup. Recipes should be a healthy

main dish that tie to the theme “Bringing Texas to the Table.” Please contact Hannah at the Exten-

What are the Agents working on? Jackson County Master Gardeners 2015 Spring Plant Sale

Did Old Man Winter wreck your yard and garden? Have no fear, the Jackson County Master Gardeners' Spring Plant Sale is April 18th from 8 a m to noon in the County Service Building Auditorium. The Master Gardeners have been searching for the best plants to put in their sale. Some of the plants they have purchased in the past include Little John Bottlebrush, Texas Mountain Laurel, Hibiscus, Esperanza, Plumbago, Verbenas,and many other new plants along with your favorites A drawing for a number of raffle items will be at 11:30 Saturday morning. . Proceeds from the sale will be used to expand and improve the Texana Educational Garden (TEG) which is next to the parking lot. Last year we added citrus trees and a bulb garden to the TEG. We are working on add-ing a Ginger and grasses gardens. As with your home garden, Old Man Winter wrecked some of our gardens and we will have to replace a number of plants also. Last year we had three tours of the garden that included youth and adult and we hope to continue the educational tours in the future. Come and shop the plant sale April 18th. Our prices are normally lower than the nurseries and you pay no sales tax. We look forward to seeing you there. Anyone that is interested in becoming a Master Gardener and joining in on all the fun projects they do can

contact Mike Hiller, County Agent, at the Extension office at 361-782-3312. A Master Gardener training class in

being scheduled starting in August. Sign up will be at the booth during the plant sale. If you love to garden, differ-

ent types of plants and get dirt under your nails along with people of like interest, you should consider becoming a

Master Gardener.

Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes… is a FREE educational program for people or family members with type 2 diabetes. This

primary goal is to help participants learn how to manage their blood glucose in the ranges recommended by the ADA.
