Born in Salem in 19th November’ 1935

Father John, a Boston & Maine Railroad conductor & Mother Grace, a housewife

Mr. Welch, a native of Salem, Massachusetts USA

B.S Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts in 1957

M.S and Ph.D. Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of IIinois in 1960

In 1960, Mr. Welch joined GE as a Chemical Engineer

In 1972, he became youngest Vice President

In 1979, he became Senior Vice President

In 1981, he was chosen to be company’s eighth and youngest CEO

In 2001, he retired as Chairman and CEO of General Electric
