Citilink becomes first Indonesian airline to operate A320neo

Jet Aviation in St. Louis installs industry’s first ATG-8000 high-speed internet in an Embraer Lineage

AFI KLM E&M and Beijing General Aviation Co., Ltd sets up a joint venture

Citilink, the low cost unit of Garuda Indonesia, has taken delivery of its

first A320neo at Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France. The aircraft is the first of 35 A320neo to enter into service with the carrier. It is joining an existing fleet of 44 A320ceo aircraft flying with the carrier and can seat 180 passengers in a single class layout. The A320neo “new engine option”

include many innovations, like most recent generation engines and large Sharklet wing-tip devices, which collectively deliver more than 15 percent in fuel savings from day one and 20 percent by 2020 with supplementary cabin modernization. With over 5,000 orders received from 92 customers since its start in 2010, A320neo has captured some 60 percent share of the market.

Jet Aviation in St. Louis accomplished the first ATG-8000 high-speed internet

installation in an Embraer Lineage.“This is the first ATG-8000 ever installed

in a Lineage, and it’s a very complex pro-cess,” said Blake Hogge, senior manager, Aviation Sales at Jet Aviation at St. Louis. “We had to strip out much of the interior and even take the fuel tanks out of the

airplane’s belly. Basically, we had to take the right side of the aircraft apart.”

Hogge said the ATG-8000 is part of Gogo Business Aviation’s air-to-ground (ATG) connectivity system – a package that includes multiple modems, routers, and ex-ternal directional antennae. It will provide the customer with high-speed internet, Wi-Fi, and connectivity for information and

entertainment services such as email and video conferencing. While the ATG-8000 is fairly new for business-aviation applica-tions, Hogge said it has been installed in hundreds of commercial airliners. He said the Jet Aviation service center in St. Louis installed it in the Lineage under a supple-mental type certificate (STC).

Jet Aviation at St. Louis is a full-service aircraft maintenance, modifications and completions provider certified to AS9110B, ISO 140001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 standards. It employs more than 600 people at its St. Louis Downtown Airport location, has in-house design and engi-neering departments, along with on-site cabinetry, upholstery, composite, avionics, sheet metal, and paint shops. Jet Aviation at St. Louis is an Embraer and Gulfstream authorized service center and a Dassault Falcon and Hawker center of proficiency. It also serves as an authorized service center for GE, Rolls-Royce and Honeywell engines. The location also offers FBO services. Jet Aviation in St. Louis recently completed a contract for a second ATG-8000 installation scheduled in April.

Lufthansa Technik and MTU Aero Engines are preparing to set up a

joint venture company for the MRO of geared turbofan (GTF) engines, with each of the companies holding a 50-percent stake. A treaty was signed by the two companies in Berlin on February 20, after the feasibility of such a joint venture had been exam-ined over the past few months.

According to the plans, the new facility will be up and running by 2020 and have over 500 employees. By 2020, a full amount of around 150 million euros will be invested into the new location. The facility will be de-signed to house over 300 shop visits of PW1000G-family GTF engines for the Airbus A320neo family of jetliners and other aircraft. The search for a globally competitive site in or outside Europe will be accomplished within a few months’ time.

Johannes Bussmann, chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Technik AG, remarked, “We are pleased to have found a strong partner in MTU with whom we can steer our joint company to success. For Lufthansa Technik, this move marks another important step in strengthening and expanding its partnerships with reputable engine manufacturers.”

Michael Schreyögg, chief program officer of MTU Aero Engines AG, said, “With the new joint venture, MTU is continuing its successful partnership strategy. Lufthansa Technik is the ideal partner for us in this endeavor. By setting up a joint facility, capi-tal investments can be shared and opportunities for synergy and scale generated for both companies. Our objective is to build the most efficient MRO shop for GTF engines around.”

Lufthansa Technik and MTU have been partnering in a successful, 50-50 joint venture in Malaysia since 2003. Airfoil Services Sdn. Bhd. (ASSB) near Kuala Lumpur specializes in the repair of low-pressure turbine and high-pressure compressor airfoils.

“With this new UAE contract, Boeing will continue training the Emirati C-17

students through each phase of their careers,” said Larry Sisco, C-17 training program manager.

Boeing provides C-17 training to India, UK and NATO’s Strategic Airlift Capabil-ity. Boeing is exceptional in its capability to adapt its training devices and course materials to each customer’s specific C-17 fleet.

“We help our customers do amazing things by delivering critical training and learning tools — affordably and on time,” Sisco added. “By maintaining our focus on innovation and service, we play a key role in helping the UAE maintain a high mission-readiness rate for its C-17 fleet.”

Jet Aviation announced that its Comple-tions facility in Basel recieved EN9100 certification following an independent audit.

The EN 9100 certification encompasses a sequence of standards developed by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) on the basis of ISO 9001, and acts as a clear sign of a company’s demon-strated capability to meet the necessi-ties of both OEMs and clients in design, development, production, installation and servicing. OEMs needs their suppliers and sub-contractors to act in accordance with the certification, while for custom-

ers, it represents better guarantee and approval.

“The EN9100 certification is a testament to our dedication to continuous im-provement in quality across all areas of Completions in Basel,” commented Neil Boyle senior vice president and general manager Jet Aviation Completions in Basel. “It is a demanding certification process, giving our customers additional confidence that we meet certification requirements as a partner for major OEMs, and reinforcing our dedication to exceptional Jet Aviation quality at every level of the Completions process.”
