1. INTRODUCTION TO JABRA XPRESS1.1 WHAT IS JABRA XPRESS?Jabra Xpress is a collection of tools that helps IT administrators quickly and easily manage Jabra headsets throughout an organisation.

Jabra Xpress ToolsJabra Xpress consist of three tools:

• Xpress online tool–createanMSIpackageformassdeploymentwithyourchoiceofJabradevicefirmware,settings,andsoftwareforyourorganizationsneeds.

• Jabra Device Updater–awindowsapplicationinstalledonanenduser’sPCthatgovernsJabradevicecon-figurations(e.g.firmwareversions,devicesettingsetc).

• Jabra WMI provider–aWMIproviderthatcollectsdetailedinformationofJabradevices(e.g.modelname,firmwareversionetc).

JabraXpressisbasedonstandardMicrosofttechnologiesandwillseamlesslyintegrateintoyourexistingITmanagement infrastructure.

An IT administrator changes one or more settings for a Jabra headsetintheorganization.TheITadministratorneedstocreateorupdateanexistinganMSIpackagewiththenewdevicesettings.

Deploy firmware update again

Anenduserhaspermanentlyrejectedafirmwareupdateforadevice,andthedevicemustbefirmwareupdated.TheITadministratorneedstodeploytheMSIfileagaintoenduser’sPCs.

Device install base status Itadministratorwantstogetanoverviewofinstalleddevicesandfirmwareversionsintheorganization.TheITadministratorselectstheWMIproviderintheJabraXpress online tool. The MSI package containing the Jabra WMI providerisdeployedandinstalledonenduserPC’s.TheITadministrator is running the query script from his deployment systemandtheinstalledWMIproviderreportsbacktoITadminfromenduserPC’s.

1. Mail Notification.Wheneverthereisanewproductrelease,firmwareupdateand/orPCcomponentaddedtotheJabraXpressonlinetool,theITadministratorisnotifiedbyemail.

2. Configure MSI package.UsingtheJabraXpressonlinetool,anITadministratorcancreateanMSIpackageformassdeploymentwithJabradevicefirmware,settings,andsoftwarefortheirorganization’sneeds.AnexistingMSIpackagecanalsobeuploadedtotheJabraXpressonlinetoolandchanged.Optionally,aJabraWMIprovidercanbepackagedinitsownMSIpackage.

3. Download MSI package.ThefinalMSIfileisdownloadedtotheITadministrator’sPC.

4. Deploy MSI package.TheMSIfileismovedtothecorporateMSIroll-outsystem(e.g.MSSCCM)andinstalledonenduser’sPCsintheorganization.

5. Update Jabra Device Firmware and/or Settings.TheMSIfilewillinstallselectedJabraPCSuitecomponents(softphonedrivers,JabraControlCenter,etc.),andwillinstallandrunanapplicationcalledJabraDeviceUpdater(ifselected)thatupdatesfirmwareandsettingsinallmatchingJabradevices.DependingonhowtheJabraDeviceUpdaterisconfigureditmayresideonthePCandcontinuouslycheckthatJabradevicefirmwareandsettingsareinsyncwithcorporatepolicies.

6. Run WMI Query.AnITadministratorcangetanoverviewofinstalledJabradevicesandtheirfirmwareversionandconfigurationIDbyexecutingaWMIqueryfromthecentralmanagementtool.

7. WMI response. The WMI query response from each client PC is assembled into a combined report in the management tool.

Modify a Previous ConfigurationSelect‘UPLOAD’touploadapreviousMSIpackageandeditanyoftheconfigurationstocreateanewMSIpackage.

Monitor your Jabra DevicesSelect‘DOWNLOAD’todownloadtheJabraWMIprovider.WiththeJabraWMIprovideritispossibletogetdetailedinformationandanoverviewofyourJabradevices.TheenduserlicenseagreementmustbereadandacceptedtodownloadtheJabraWMIprovider.SeeChapter6Jabra WMI Provider for more detailed information.

4.2 SELECT DEVICESSelectwhichJabradevicestofirmwareand/orsettingsupdatefromthelistofsupportedJabradevices.Multipledevicescanbeselected.

Selecteddevicesarelistedinthe“Devicestobemanaged”list.Hoveringoverthedeviceslistedwilldisplaythedeviceforquickidentification.

4.3 CONFIGURATION

WhenanMSIpackagecontainingfirmwareand/orsettingsisdeployed,JabraDeviceUpdaterisinstalledontheenduser’sPC.JabraDeviceUpdaterupdatesJabraDevicestothefirmwareversionsandsettingsselectedintheMSIpackage.WheneveraselectedJabradeviceisconnectedtotheenduser’sPC,JabraDeviceUpdaterwillcheck for update eligibility.Afirmwareorsettingsupdatecanonlystartwhenallpreconditionsaremet.Preconditionsmayvaryfromdevicetodevice,andwillincludeoneormoreofthefollowing:•ThecomputermustbeconnectedtoACpower(onlyrelevantforlaptopPCs).

•OnlyoneJabradevicemustbeconnectedtotheenduserPC.•TherearenoactivecallsontheJabradevice.•TheJabraheadsetisdocked(onlyrelevantfordeviceswithadockableheadset).

Jabra Device Updater OptionsJabraDeviceUpdatercanbeconfiguredtodeterminethelevelofinteractiontheenduserhaswithJabraDeviceUpdaterwhenthefirmwareupdatestarts.

Allow user to postpone device updates Theendusercanpostponethefirmwareupdateby15minutes,1houror4hours.Afterthepostponeperiodhasended,theenduserwillbepromptedtoacceptthefirmwareupdateorpostponeagain,uptoatotalof10hours.

Allow user to reject device updates Theendusercanselect‘Donotremindmeagain’topermanentlyrejectthefirmwareupdate.Eachdeviceselectedforfirmwareupdatemustbeindividuallyrejectedbytheuser.

Start device updates automatically WhenJabraDeviceUpdaterisdisplayeditwillasktheenduserforpermissiontostartthefirmwareupdate.Iftheenduserdoesnotrespondwithin5minutestheupdatewillstartautomatically.

Note:WhenusingWindows8,theJabraDeviceUpdaterwillonlydisplayinDesktopMode.

Do not update devices in this time intervalPreventJabraDevicesfrombeingupdatedduringaspecifictimeinterval(e.g.workinghours)byselectinga‘From’and‘To’timeinterval.Thetimeisbaseduponthelocaltimeontheenduser’sPC.

Note:Iftheselected‘From’and‘to’timeissettothesamehour,noupdaterestrictionwillbeapplied.

Custom notification (optional)WriteanoptionalcustommessagethatwillbeaddedtothedefaultnotificationdisplayedtotheenduserwhenJabraDeviceUpdaterstarts.

Selected DevicesThisisalistofalldevicesselectedtobeupdatedbyJabraDeviceUpdater.

Firmware versionBydefaulteachselecteddeviceissetto‘Leaveunchanged’.TheselectedJabradeviceswillkeeptheircurrentfirmwareversions,andnofirmwareupdatewillbeinitiated.Afirmwareversioncanbeselectedusingthedropdownlist.Firmwareversionsarerankedwiththelatestfirmwareversionfirstinthelist.

Selecting‘ManagedbyJabra’willnotifyenduser’swhennewfirmwareispublishedonJabra.comfortheirJabradevice.JabraDeviceUpdaterwillcheckforupdatesonJabra.comonceevery2weeks.Theenduser’sPCmusthaveInternetaccess.

Note: JabraDevicesettingsconfigurationisnotsupportedwhenselecting‘ManagedbyJabra’

Downgrade devices that have newer firmwareOptionallyitispossibletodowngradeadevicetoanolderversionoffirmwarebyfirstselectingthedesiredfirmwareinthedrop-downlist,andthenselecting‘Downgradedevicesthathavenewerfirmware’.Forsomedevicesafirmwaredowngradeisnotoffered.

Language pack and display languageThelanguagepackanddisplaylanguageconfigurationissupportedfordevicesthathaveabasestationdisplay(e.g.JabraPRO9460).Preferredenduserdisplaylanguagecanbeselectedbyfirstselectingrelevantlanguagepack,andthenselectingdisplaylanguage.

SettingsSomeJabradevicesofferconfigurablesettingsthatdefinethedevice’sbehavior(e.g.Audioprotectionlevel,Wirelessrange,Targetsoftphoneforoutgoingcallsetc).Bydefaultdevicesettingsaresetto‘Leaveunchanged’.

Note: Devicesettingsmightchangedependingonthefirmwareversionselected.

TheavailablesettingsforeachselectedJabradevicearelistedinthetableinJabraXpressonlinetool.Asetting’sdefaultvalueisindicatedby*.Ifafirmwareversionhasnotbeenselected(leaveunchanged),eachsupportedfirmwareversionwillbedisplayedinthesettingstable.

Select‘SetAlltoDefaultValues’toresetthedevicesettingstothedefaultfactorysettings.Select‘SetAlltoLeaveUnchanged’tokeepallsettingscurrentlyappliedintheenduser’sdevice.

Device ProtectionSelect‘Protectadvancedsettingswithapassword’topasswordprotectthesettings(forJabradevicessupportingDeviceProtection).Avalidpasswordmustbechosen,andcanbeanycombinationofletters,numbers,andupperandlowercasecharacters.Settingsthatsupportpasswordprotectionwillbeindicatedbya in the column. Settingsthatnotsupportpasswordprotectionwillnotshowthe column.

ProtecteddevicesettingscanonlybemodifiedbyenteringthepasswordwhenpromptedinJabraControlCenter,andcannotbemodifiedmanuallyonthedevicesitself.

4.4 PC SOFTWARESelectwhichJabraPCsoftwareandsoftwaresettingstoinstallontheenduserPC.

Select Jabra PC Suite ComponentsSelectwhichJabraPCSuitecomponentstoinstallontheenduser’sPC.Eachcomponentcanbeindividuallyinstalled,andwillrunindependentoftheothercomponents.

TheJabraPCSuitecomponentsavailabletoincludeintheMSIpackageare:

•JabraControlCenter:acomponentthatallowsenduserstoconfiguretheirJabradevicesettings.•JabraCallManager:acomponentthatalowstheendusertomanagecallsviaaPCinterface.

Note:Regardlessofwhichcomponentsareselected,theentireJabraPCSuitecurrentlyinstalledontheenduser’sPCwillberemoved,andreplacedwithonlytheselectedcomponents.

Download MSI packageTodownloadtheMSIpackagetheenduserlicenseagreementmustfirstbereadandacceptedbyselecting‘Ihavereadandaccepttheenduserlicenseagreement’.ItisnotpossibletodownloadtheMSIpackageuntiltheend user license agreement has been accepted.

Therearetwooptionsfordownload:•MSIpackageforWindows32-bit.•MSIpackageforWindows64-bit.

DownloadtherelevantMSIpackage(orboth,ifrequired).

Deployment Instructions

Install MSI packagemsiexec.exe/ipackage.msi

WhenanMSIpackageisinstalledonanenduser’sPCthatalreadyhasanMSIpackageinstalled,theexistingJabraDeviceUpdaterandJabraPCSuitecomponentswillbeuninstalled,andreplacedwiththesoftwareselectedinthenewMSIpackage.

Note:Theenduser’sPCmustberestartedbeforetheinstalledsoftwarewillrun.

Uninstall MSI packagemsiexec.exe/xpackage.msi

Afteruninstallationtheenduser’sPCisleftwithazerofootprint.ChangesmadetoattachedJabradevicesarepreserved.

5. JABRA DEVICE UPDATER5.1 WHAT IS JABRA DEVICE UPDATER?JabraDeviceUpdaterisabackgroundapplicationthatmonitorsJabradevicesconnectedtotheenduser’sPC.ItalsohandlesthedevicefirmwareandsettingsupdatesselectedbytheITadministrator.

5.2 INSTALL JABRA DEVICE UPDATERJabraDeviceUpdaterisautomaticallyinstalledonenduser’sPCswhenanMSIpackageisdeployedthathasaJabradeviceselectedforfirmwareand/orsettingsupdate.JabraDeviceUpdaterdoesnotrequireadministratorrightsonenduser’sPCstorun.Note:AfterdeploymentoftheMSIpackagecontainingtheJabraDeviceUpdater,theenduser’sPCmustberestartedbeforeJabraDeviceUpdaterwillrun.

5.3 FIRMWARE UPDATE USING JABRA DEVICE UPDATEREachtimeaselectedJabradeviceisconnectedtotheenduser’sPC,JabraDeviceUpdaterwillcheckthedeviceforupdateeligibility.Ifthedevicehasdifferentfirmwareand/orsettingsthanselectedintheMSIpackage,JabraDeviceUpdaterwillinitiatethedeviceupdate.Intheeventofafirmwareupdate,theenduserwillreceivenotificationfromJabraDeviceUpdaterthatthefirmwareupdatewillbegin.Allfirmwareand/orsettingsfilesusedbyJabraDeviceUpdaterarestoredlocallyoneachenduser’sPCs.

DependingontheJabraDeviceUpdateroptionsselectedinJabraXpresswhencreatingtheMSIpackage,theenduserwillhavevaryinginteractionwithJabraDeviceUpdater(seeChapter3.3.3Jabra Device Updater Options formoreinformation).

Afirmwareupdatecanonlystartwhenallpreconditionsaremet.Preconditionsmayvaryfromdevicetodevice,andwillincludeoneormoreofthefollowing:•ThecomputermustbeconnectedtoACpower(onlyrelevantforlaptopPCs).•TherecanonlybeoneJabradeviceconnectedtotheenduserPC.•TheremustbenoactivecallsontheJabradevice.•TheJabraheadsetmustbedocked(onlyrelevantfordeviceswithadockableheadset).

5.4 FIRMWARE UPDATE SECONDARY DEVICESSomeJabradevicessupportmultipleheadsetspairedwiththesamebase.Thisfeatureisusedforconferencing.WhenJabraDeviceUpdaterinitiatesafirmwareupdateforthebaseandtheheadset,onlythecurrentlydockedheadsetwillbefirmwareupdated.Secondaryheadsetswillbeautomaticallyfirmwareupdatedwhentheyaredockedaftertheinitialfirmwareupdate.

5.5 FAILED FIRMWARE UPDATEIntheeventofafailedfirmwareupdate,Jabradevicescanberecovered.TheenduserwillreceiveonscreeninstructionsonhowtorecovertheJabradevice.TheinstructionswillvarydependingontheJabradevice.

Ifthefirmwareupdatecontinuestofail,arestartoftheenduserPCisrecommendedbeforere-trying.

Note:JabraUCVOICEproducts(150&250)maypermanentlybeunrecoverableifinterruptedduringthefirmwareupdate.

5.6 SETTINGS ONLY UPDATEIntheeventofasettingsonlyupdate,enduserinteractionisnotnecessary.AfterthesettingsupdatetheJabradevicemayrestartautomatically.

Note:settingsupdateswillnotbeginwhenthereisanactivecallonthedevice.

5.7 JABRA DEVICE UPDATER LANGUAGESJabraDeviceUpdatersupports18languages.Thelanguagedisplayedisdeterminedbythedefaultlanguagesetting(keyboardlayout)inWindowsontheenduser’sPC.IfthecurrentWindowslanguageisnotsupported,thelanguagewilldefaulttoEnglish.

The supported languages are:•Chinese(Simplified)•Chinese(Traditional)•Czech•Danish•Dutch•English•French•German•Italian•Japanese•Korean•Norwegian•Polish•Portuguese•Russian•Spanish•Swedish•Turkish

5.8 TRACKING AND TROUBLESHOOTING UPDATESJabraDeviceUpdaterlogsmajorfirmwareupdateeventstoWindowsApplicationLog,whichcanbeviewedusingWindowsEventViewer.Thelogsourceis“JabraDeviceUpdater”.
