Kindergarten Orientation Day(1-4-2012)

KINDERGARTEN is one of the most important years of a child’s educational career, a time when attitudes toward school are formed. Since Kindergarten helps to build the groundwork for learning, we believe in building a strong foundation by working together with the parents towards this goal for the benefit of the child.

The Orientation Day was a huge success in spite of it being a normal working day. The attendees were the Principal Mrs. Chitra Sharma, our parents both old and new, the Kindergarten Supervisor, the entire KG staff comprising of forty odd members and all the tiny tots. The programme began with the welcoming of the gathering followed by a power point presentation to brief the parents on the curriculum and class routine. Important points that were discussed are as follows:

• Timings • Assembly • Time Table • Teaching and Learning • Materials to be sent for classroom purpose • Assessment • Uniform Code • Swimming Classes • Field trips • Birthday Celebrations • Leave policy • Medical • Communication • School Diary • Role of parents • Role of teachers

Later, Ms Surekha, the School Counselor, conducted an interactive session, which included active participation from the parents about “Separation Anxiety”. This was followed by a Question/Answer session that was effective as many queries and concerns were dealt with.

The orientation ended on a note that the kindergarten program in JSSPS provides children a base for intellectual accomplishment to develop an interest for life-long learning to face challenges

The Open house 28thApril, 2012, was the day chosen to build a positive relationship between parents and the school’s kindergarten team, namely, the first ‘Interactive Session’ of the academic year. It definitely was an apt way to meet the parent community, know them better, answer their queries and above all receive valuable suggestions from them to

improve and excel.

At around 8.00 am parents along with their little hearts entered the Kindergarten section, all ready to visit the classrooms and meet the teachers. An Exhibition of the Head Gears prepared by the highly talented parents was held, displaying the amazing creativity and the spirit of parental involvement with the activities of the school.

As a token of gratitude, a “Certificate of Appreciation” was handed over to each of the parents. All the teachers had tastefully decorated their classes with works of art done by the children. Individual folders clearly labeled with the child’s name were also displayed.

The parents communicated with the teachers on a one to one basis and were eager to know about their child’s progress. The teachers in turn took time to share an anecdote or two about their students and were proud to mention how well the little ones had settled in their new environment.

The Open House proved to be a huge success and paved the way for the beginning of a strong and healthy relationship between the parents and the kindergarten team.

Quality Time with children: a necessity for their development

The time young children spend with their parents is essential for their healthy development. Need for attention, approval is a basic emotional need of every child. According to researchers in the field of Child Development, it is extremely imperative that children feel connected to their parents/ primary caretakers.

The School tour for the tiny tots of the Kindergarten Section was conducted on two consecutive days namely 10/4/2012 and11/04/2012.All the classes took turns to explore the sprawling campus. The Children started from the ‘Activity Room’, which was full of toys, puzzles and puppets. They shot enquiring looks at the activity teacher MS Neetu as to why they could not play with the toys then. After some cajoling they moved on to the ‘Principal’s Office’. . The children interacted with the principal Mrs. Chitra Sharma like Aces and answered all her questions with confidence. One girl called the Principal’s Office, ‘The Princesses’ room’. The next stop was the green and inviting ‘Football Turf’ .It was a difficult task keeping them away from action there. At the ‘Swimming Pool’, the children bombarded the teachers with questions like “When can we swim? “ Will you hold my hand while I swim?’’. From the pool the next stop was the ‘Auditorium’ where the children were told that they would be on stage one day performing for a show. Next the children halted at the well-equipped ‘Clinic’. Some were scared to enter, while the others wanted to be a doctor when they grew up. From the seriousness of the clinic the children moved on to the colorful and well-stocked ‘Library’. The numerous books there excited them and many were eager to explore the huge shelves too. From the library the little ones climbed upstairs to the cozy and attractive ’Reading Room’. There the story-telling session by Ms Shravani and her puppet-Pepper fired their imagination and they were all eyes n ears n smiles. Finally, after an eventful school tour, it was time to be back to the comfort of the classrooms. Both the teachers and the Kids seemed to have enjoyed getting to know their school and the little ones were eager to go around once again.

School Tour of the KG2 classes-A Report

It was a bright sunny morning when ‘The Brave’ boys and girls from the KG2 classes set out to take a look around their school.

Eager and excited, the children, led by their teachers and Bus monitors walked in a single line around the school.

The first stop was the auditorium. Some older children and their teachers were inside. To their credit, the little ones walked quietly and silently through the massive auditorium, pausing to glance around and recollect the time they were inside, to perform, watch or attend the orientation session.

Next was the dining hall. The children walked inside, some sat on the benches, while we explained the purpose of the dining hall. I’m sure most of them have decided that once they are ‘big children’, they will definitely carry some dirhams in dainty purses or small leather wallets and buy themselves lunch or snacks.

In front of the Dining hall is the Music room. The children recognized most of the instruments and were fortunate to attend a music session later in the day and listen to the keyboard.

They looked in awe at the beautiful paintings on display in the Art room. They walked through the room, not forgetting to wish the Art tutor, who gave them a big smile. We have some good artists in the class and it is just a matter of time when soon their paintings will also adorn the walls of the Art room.

Next on the agenda was the library. The teacher there welcomed us in and introduced the library to the children. She gave a short but encouraging and informative talk on the library and the rules and regulations.

The children quickly occupied some of the tables and waited impatiently for her to give them books with lots of pictures in them. Quite a few wished to know why they couldn’t take a book home and almost everyone wanted to spend some more time in the library.

We then walked to the swimming pool and took a look at the pool and its pristine blue waters. The children had had a swimming session that week, so we skipped the changing rooms and decided to make our way to the turf.

We watched some of the older children playing at the turf and spent a few minutes watching them. The children had played briefly in the turf area on the first and second days of school.

It was then time to visit the reception area and thereby visit the Principal’s office too after which we took a quick turn and made our way back to the Kindergarten block.

WELCOME PARTY AT THE KINDERGARTEN SECTION {18.04.2012}

Our children seemed to be settling down so comfortably that it was time to treat them and celebrate. We decided a welcome party was the best way we could do so. The idea of children coming in colourful HEAD GEARS seemed delightful and we thought we could involve our parents to design them for us. On the party day we were taken aback to see amazingly different head gears being worn by the children. Knowing our parents, we knew it would be done in sheer style but what surprised us was they had created masterpieces. We had the most innovative and unique hats made with lots of love and pain for the little ones. This involvement of the parents was highly appreciated by one and all. Lots of photographs were clicked as the kids enjoyed striking a pose or two.

The children were ecstatic, as they had brought lots of goodies for themselves and their friends. They enjoyed nibbling at the chips, popcorn and cookies that their mothers had so lovingly packed for them. We also saw some budding dancers and singers in action during the class party. The day was spent in playing and bonding with friends. It was a pleasure seeing them have so much Fun. The first welcome party was a hit as not only had the kids enjoyed themselves but had a lot of heads turn in admiration for them.
