Maritime Mobile Service

Hongkong Communication of 25.IX.2000: Cable and Wireless Hong Kong Telecom (Hong Kong Radio) announces that the operation of Morse radiotelegraphy, on both the commercial and distress services has already been discontinued since 1 November 1999. Since 1 October 2000, Morse weather broadcasts and the associated radio circuits have been closed. However, meteorological broadcasts via NAVTEX and SafetyNET, as well as reception of weather reports via radiotelex and Inmarsat continue since this date.

Legal time changes

New Zealand Communication of 27.IX.2000: Legal time in New Zealand will be advanced by 60 minutes from 30 September 2000 at 1400 hours UTC (1 October 2000 at 0200 hours, local time) to 17 March 2001 at 1500 hours UTC (18 March 2001 at 0300 hours, local time) and thereby will correspond to UTC +13.

Assignment of Signalling Area/Network Codes (SANC) (ITU-T Recommendation Q.708 (03/99))

Note from the TSB At the request of the Administration of Peru, the Director of the TSB has assigned the following signalling area/network code (SANC) for use in the international part of the signalling system No. 7 network of this country/geographical area, in accordance with ITU-T Recommendation Q.708 (03/99): Country/geographical area or signalling network SANC Peru 7-036 ____________ SANC: Signalling Area Network Code. Note from the TSB Several requests have been received in ITU, asking that a distinction should be made between the fixed telephone numbers and mobile numbers. A List of access codes/numbers for mobile networks has been prepared from the information received on the telephone service for publication in the ITU Operational Bulletin. Administrations/ROAs are requested to verify the information in this List and to inform ITU of any modifications they wish to make.

New independent regulatory body

The Administration of Turkey announces that the new Telecommunication Amending Law (No. 4502) that was enacted by the Parliament in January 2000 created the new independent regulatory body, the Telecommunications Authority (TA), for all telecommunication purposes including radio issues. The Board of the TA formally established the telecommunications regulatory authority by 15 August 2000, and accordingly the former General Directorate of Radiocommunications (TGM Ankara) has been abolished. All the functions of TGM, including frequency management and monitoring, as well as all the other matters relating to telecommunications were transferred to the TA on that date.
