Watermark UniversitySacred Journeys & Traditions: A Musical Celebration of the
Jewish New Year
September 20th, 2:00pm, A
A special concert of inspiring songs, stories and history of
the Jewish High Holiday Rosh Hashanah, including musical
themes and insights of the history and traditions of this
season as it is observed by the Jewish people around the
world.
The History Behind Our Calendar
September 22nd, 2:00pm, A
Have you ever wondered why our calendar is set up the way
it is? How were the months named and why do some
months have a different amount of days? Dorothy will
explain the Roman calendar origins and the switch to a
more regulated solar calendar based entirely on Earth’s
revolutions around the sun

It's Raining, it's Pouring... Where's the Beer?
If You're Stuck in the Splash Zone, Come Partywith Us!
People tend to do some very interesting things when
preparing for Hurricane Season. Some take stock in
water, canned foods, flashlights and the world is
usually frantic. Florida, however, doesn't usually
start to panic until the letters start flying off the
signs. So as a true Florida tradition, we are hosting a
Two Chef's Hurricane Party. So break out your
windbreakers and rain boots to join us in the
auditorium for shelter as Chef prepares a menu that
is storm friendly, and won't be out grilling hotdogs
in 65mph winds! Hopefully, the weather
man doesn't turn it into a *true to nature* hurricane
party, but as always The Fountains will be prepared!
The first Oktoberfest was held in the year 1810 in
honor of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig's
marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-
Hildburghausen. Traditions have been since
occurring, with festivities ranging from September to
October, we couldn't miss the opportunity to don our
Lederhosen and Dirndl-dresses! Let's not forget the
most important part - the beer and food! With
traditional foods of wurst, brezeln & of course,
Oktoberfest Beer, we may not be sounding the 12
cannon salute to kick it off, but we will party like we
are in Munich! So roll up your stockings and come do
the polka to the St. Denis Variety Band on
September 21st at 2:00pm in the Auditorium. Prost!

SPECIAL EVENTS | THE BUZZ | OUT AND ABOUT AND MUCH MORE!
ThrivingRiley Gigstead, a 10 year old boy
with big ambitions, attended a week
long overnight camp at iD Tech
Camp. During his time at camp, it
allowed Riley to truly thrive and
come out of his shell. Having been
diagnosed with ADHD and Sensory
Processing Disorder, Riley never
saw challenges when it came to
technology.
He developed a love for coding at
school two years ago when they programed a class robot to do
simple tasks, like opening and closing it’s hand. That little spark set
a huge fire inside Riley, and he now has dreams to become a video
game creator and hopes to own his own corporation, similar to that
of Nintendo. During camp, Riley developed a base line coding for
two games, a number sequencing guessing game and a horoscope
generator. He joyfully played these games with the residents at The
Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay. With the field of technology ever-
growing and having unlimited outlets, we wanted Riley to see how
his passions could be utilized in other ways. For that, we asked our
Associate Executive Director, David Schupack, to show Riley the
behind the scenes of what it takes to make a building like The
Fountains run between the Wifi connections, telephones, computer
systems and how David plays a huge role in helping to maintain the
technology even from his position.
The Fountains held their annual Watermark for Kids Carnival to
raise funds to sponsor kids like Riley and raised over $300, with
families, friends, associates and people from the community in
attendance.

Employee of the MonthEmployee of the Month
Margaret Bradley, a staple of our dining department, was nominated not
only because of the loyalty she shows as a watermark associate, but her
dedication to the residents in the springs is absolutely outstanding. Maggie
goes above and beyond her position as a dietary aide always assisting CDM
in multiple additional tasks. She always comes in to work with a positive
attitude, in uniform and always on time, literally to the minute of her
schedule daily, it's an art! On top of that, Maggie has been with us for over
30 years and just continues to learn and grow every day and if you have
seen her around, you certainly know that Maggie is one that knows how to
come from abundance. Congratulations, Maggie!
Fountains Funmakers' Performance - Wed, 9/13, 2pm, A
It's time for another round of belly laughs as we witness the
dramatic remaking of some of the best, and true, stories brought to
us by our one and only, Maintenance department. Bring your friends
for this amazing once in a lifetime show, and be prepared to laugh as
The Fountains Funmakers present their summer show, Mañana
Maintenance. We will be sure to send a work order invite to the
maintenance team!
Welcome Home Our Veterans from Honor Flight - 9/8 & 9/13
Honor Flight is an opportunity honoring our veterans for their
dedication and service to our country. They are taken on a free trip to
Washington DC where they spend a day visiting the various
memorials and monuments. Upon return, they are greeted by
volunteers who provide them with a joyful welcome. We will be
creating posters to welcome home the next Honor Flight on Friday,
9/8 and on Wednesday, 9/13, we'll join the crowd at the Airport and
celebrate these veterans as they arrive.
Refresher Bridge Group Interest Meeting - 9/13, 1pm, Ch
Haven't played Bridge in 10, 20, or even 30 years? That's ok! Our
Bridge group is looking for more players! Games can be arranged for
beginners or more advanced. These games are all for fun,
camaraderie, and mental stimulation. This meeting will discuss
options for playing on a regular basis. Come find out more!
Manic Monday's Race to End Alzheimer's - 9/25, 11am, A
To defeat Alzheimer's is a race against time itself. We are hosting
our own in-house wheelchair and walkers race where managers and
associates will not only be competing for your vote on who you
think will win the races, but also actually striving to win the race and
the final prize! All donations collected by votes from the jars at the
Front Desk will go towards Boca Goes Green for the Cure's team
efforts for the Walk to End Alzheimer's event.
Florida’s Fabulous Sea Shells - 9/29, 2pm, A
Florida is not only famous for the amount of sea shells and
hurricanes, but for the variety of types of sea shells. More kinds of
sea shells are found in Florida than any other state. June will share
the various types of shells that are found in our own backyard as well
as new and exciting information about shell discoveries around the
world.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
It's almost time for Resident Council Elections for the 2017-2018 year! Elections will be held in
October and we are looking for residents who would like an opportunity to serve on the board.
Please call ext. 4107 if you're interested or would like more information.
The Bay Breeze Cafe's Virtual Store has received a
makeover! You may have noticed that the café now
offers items such as Chips Ahoy Cookies, Cat Litter,
Cereal in both large size and individual portions,
mouth wash, and even laundry detergent! You can find
these items and more listed on the Virtual Store Order
Form, available in the café during regular hours. When
filling out the form, please place the quantity of each
item requested in the box next to the item and
complete the form before 2:30pm. Your order will be
available for pick up the next day, but you must pick
up items within 48 hours or a new form will be needed.
With weather so fickle, or you may not be able to get
out to the grocery store on the shuttle runs, let the Bay
Breeze Café service your basic needs in a pinch!
Convince and efficiency is our goal. Please see a Café
attendant with any questions.
As promised, the second half of our Extraordinary
Outing will be upon us! This time, we are taking an
afternoon safari ride through 260 acres of Florida
wilderness in early October to beat the heat. A rare
and unique experience, Safari Wilderness Ranch is a
world away from the hustle and bustle of civilization.
Here you feel the silence, enveloped by an open vista
of grazing animals surrounded by cypress domes and
bay trees. We'll get spectacular close-up encounters
with eland, red lechwe, Grant’s zebra, greater kudu,
barasingha, axis deer, water buffalo, scimitar-horned
oryx, nilgai, and more unique and endangered species
in large herds. Enjoy the fresh breath of safari air as
enormous birds soar overhead and the stage is set. If
you're interested in joining us on this unique and
memorable outing, please see Community Life for
more information & early sign up.
Out and AboutHop on the bus and join us as we explore different
restaurants and exciting places around the area. If
you'd like to attend any of these outings, please call
ext. 4108. If you are unable to attend an outing that
you have signed up for, please call ext. 4108 to cancel.
All sign ups and cancellations must be made by 3pm of
the day prior to an outing.
