technology to bond the foam layers, ITG filter assemblies

are resistant to water, fumes, oils and fuels.

ITG were probably the first company to manufacture a truly durable,high performance foam-based production air filter.

Why foam? Because, compared to paper or other filter technologies,reticulated polyurethane foam achieves optimum performance against threekey criteria:

Superior FiltrationResults from tests performed at the Motor Industry

Research Association (MIRA) show that against leading

paper element and cotton gauze filters, ITG foam filters

outperform all competitors for low pressure drop (mbar)

versus dust loading (grams). Typically, ITG air filters can

hold 5 times the quantity of dust than an equivalent paper

or cotton gauze air filter, giving better airflow over a much

longer time. Our unique TriFoamTM system, with 3 layers of

differing porosity foams, combined with dust retaining oil,

give a high level of filtration to protect the engine from

wear due to dust inhalation. If you want to go faster for

longer, choose ITG airfilters.

Look at the figures in the graph to see just how an ITG filter

out performs the best cotton or paper filters.

More Power for longerPleated paper, synthetic polyester fibre and cotton gauze

airfilters give good flow rates from new at the expense of

clogging up quickly, causing a gradual loss of power over

time. ITG foam air filters can hold the same performance

levels from new with 5 times the quantity of dust than

other media. This means more power for longer and less

maintenance.

Longer LifeAll ITG air filters are washable and reusable, and can last

up to 15 years when oiled and maintained in line with

Superior filtrationOur unique TriFoamTM system with three layers of foam

combined with the arresting stickiness of the dust retaining

oil gives a high level of filtration to protect the engine from

all contaminants brought in by the air.

Better economyYou can be assured of better fuel economy due to the larger

volume and more consistent flow of air into your engine.

As a result, smaller throttle openings will achieve the same

performance.

More powerPerformance is unaffected by very large quantities of dirt

arrested in the filter and, long after ordinary filters have

blocked up and reduced the engine power, loss of pressure

in the Profilter airflow will be exceptionally low.

Longer lifeIn normal road use, a Profilter will last at least 5 times as

long as the equivalent standard filter. Waste is reduced so

Profilter helps the environment as well as the engine.

CleaningAll our Profilter range can be washed and re-oiled with our

filter maintenance kit.

The famous red-bandTMfilters for road and race

The two outer layers of foam provide optimum filtration and

load-up capacity while the inner layer is made of special

self-extinguishing filter foam. Together, they give the best

combination for air flow, engine protection and safety.

All standard baseplates for the Megaflow range are made

from bright red powder coated steel.

Fitting advice

Selection of the filter element depends on the amount of

room available.

ITG recommend fitting the tallest element possible, though

a gap of 1/2” (13mm) average must be left over the top of

the filter for air to circulate.

If using ram pipes, there must be an absolute minimum gap

of 3/4” (19mm) or preferably 11/4” (32mm) between the end

of the pipe and the underside

of the top of the filter.

Please note:All types of Megaflow filter are available as either a flat or domed (sausage) shape.Baseplates are also available in aluminium.

These versatile filters are easily recognisable by their twin bright redbands around the top and bottom. They should not be confused with themany inferior types of foam air filter.

These bands are the visible part of two fibre-reinforced nylon injectionmouldings which form the structure on which our unique TriFoamTM filtersystem is bonded.

Fitting instructions

Fitting a filter is very straight forward. The baseplates are

supplied with bolt and spacer kits when required. The filters

clip onto the baseplates, and are secured by one or more

simple 1/4 turn fasteners. In many cases an improved seal

between carburettor and baseplate can be achieved by

applying a thin smear of silicon grease.

The Megaflow range of air filters is normally supplied

unoiled or 'dry', and they need to be oiled prior to use.

For very light dusty conditions or track use, we recommend

our JDR-1 oil. For very dusty conditions – rallying, grass

track etc., we recommend our JDR-2 oil. Both products are

available separately or in a maintenance kit with filter

cleaning fluid. Alternatively, for a very small charge, we can

pre-oil the filter for you at the factory when ordering.

For particularly arduous conditions, oversocks are available

for the twin red band versions of the Megaflow range.

Again, they too need to

be oiled with JDR-2

before use.

Carburettor adjustment

Whenever an ITG filter replaces an original equipment inlet

system, the fuel metering systems on an engine may need

adjustment to compensate for the change in air flow

capacity. The following is a guide, but the full engine range

should be checked on a rolling road.

For Weber, and similar types of carburettor, try the following:

Single chokeIncrease main jet 5-10 points

Reduce air corrector 10-15 points

Dual chokeIncrease secondary main jet 5-10 points

Reduce secondary air corrector 10-15 points

Reduce primary air corrector 5-10 points

Twin chokeIncrease main jets 5-10 points

Reduce air correctors 10-15 points

For SU and other types using a metering needle, it is

necessary to reduce the diameter of the needle near the

narrower end. There is a large selection of SU needles

available and we can help with recommendations for trial.

For Strombergs, Ford VV and GM Varajet carbs, information

and needle variants are more limited.

Fires, fuel ‘standoff’ and ‘blowback’The main causes of ‘standoff’ and ‘blowback’ are wild

camshafts, poor cam timing and poor ignition timing, but

poor fuel metering also has an effect. If a heavy ‘standoff’

of fuel is occurring then some fuel will accumulate on the

air filter. If a ‘blowback’ occurs, this fuel and fuel in the

carburettor can be ignited. Although the filter materials

used are fire retardant, with the inner layer of foam self-

extinguishing, a fire fed by fuel can seriously damage the

filter and a severe under-bonnet fire may not be contained

by the filter.

JC10 F2 Stock Car filter

The multi-layer foam filter materials are similar to those in theMEGAFLOW ranges and are therefore fire-retardant. The filter israted for up to 260 or 350 bhp, so it has plenty of capacityin reserve.

It can also be used with any of the DGAR, DGAS or DGR rangesof carburettors.

The standard JC10 is now available with an increased overallheight (JC10R) for greater dust holding capacity.

These simple, light, but robust air filters come complete withbaseplate, brackets and clips for a quick-release attachment tothe Weber DGV or DGAV carburettors used in the F2 Stock Carformula.

Premium quality induction kits and remote air filters

ITG are able to supply fully enclosed air intake systems for

some of todays more popular cars. This range is increasing

on a regular basis so please get in contact with us for a full

application listing.

ITG fully road test all prototypes to prove their durability

and performance, and each kit is tested on the rolling road

to fully enhance it’s capabilities for that particular car. This

means we are able to offer power and torque graphs for

each kit we supply.

Most kits come with a carbon fibre housing but in some

cases we can offer an aluminium version of the airbox.

Maxogen induction systems are revolutionary kits that enable cold, denseair to reach the fuel metering unit more efficiently.

These remarkable units can deliver as much as 9% more effective peakpower at the wheels, and in some cases at 500rpm less revs in doing so.

Each silicon hose is designed and made for each

specific application. All aluminium parts are anodised

and we supply stainless steel or plated

screws, nuts and washers to fully

enhance the appearance and

durability of each kit.

How does the Maxogenairbox system work?

The airbox housing features a radiused induction

trumpet feeding from a large diameter primary inlet

ducting arranged to collect cool external air. The trumpet

design recovers air pressure from air velocity, filling a

plenum volume around the large surface area of the

MAXOGEN filter.

The radiused outlet of the MAXOGEN filter (below) connects

to a high quality secondary duct to feed clean, high

pressure, cool air to the engine. The complete system is

amazingly light, typically weighing only 800 grammes, and

yet it can handle air for up to 300bhp with ease.

Following years of experience designing induction systems

for both rally and touring cars at world championship level,

ITG are now making a range of purpose designed air boxes

to form the core of a super efficient air induction system

for any car.

These optimised carbon fibre and aluminium housings use

our renowned Maxogen range of air filters in varying sizes –

so, depending on the space available when the standard air

box has been removed, one of these air boxes will fit most

modern road cars creating a better air flow, and

providing increased performance.

The ITG range of patented RAB inline airboxes come in two

sizes. The larger RAB65 can cope with upto 300 BHP with

ease, and is compatable with our range of 149mm diameter

JC60FC maxogen filters. The cold air inlet diameter is

101mm (4") and can be used in conjuction with our 4" cold

air feed pipe (illustrated right). The RAB65 comes in two

material choices, ultra light carbon fibre, weighing only 240

grams or anodized aluminium, which typically weighs

around 340 grams.

The smaller RAB54 is a cost effective universal airbox which

comes complete with a maxogen cone filter capable upto

200BHP. It has a cold air inlet diameter of 76mm (3") which

can be used with our 3" cold air feed flexible pipe. The outlet

neck diameter comes standard at 70mm, which can be

fitted to a range of silicon hoses to connect to the throttle.

This airbox is ideal for tight packaging space and will

perform far better than a cotton gauze or stainless mesh

cone filter or short ram system. The air filter is removable

for cleaning as with all our maxogen systems. The RAB54

airbox is supplied anodized black, but can be supplied

polished (as illustrated) or in a range of vibrant anodized

colours to match your car. (Ask your dealer for details).

All cold air feed pipes come complete with single fixing clip.

The ITG range of AB65 airboxes are produced with 90 or 60

degree outlets to suit different packaging requirements.

The AB65 airboxes can cope with upto 300 BHP with ease

and are compatable with our range of 149mm diameter

JC60 maxogen filters. All the AB65 and BAB65 airboxes are

produced in ultra light carbon fibre with mounting holes in

the base for attaching to suitable support bracketry. The

BAB65 is a shallow version of the AB65C with a capacity of

upto 250 BHP. The MAB1 is a small universal airbox capable

of 150bhp with a 60mm cold air inlet and 70mm outlet.

Although we can supply airboxes as stand alone items, we recommend they bebought as ready-to-install kits for optimum performance.

AB80Universal carbon fibre airboxITG are able to design and manufacture complete bespoke

carbon fibre air induction systems based on our ‘universal’

racing air box. Or, we can supply the air box and filter alone

as the core of our efficient inlet system.

Designed for production racing saloons, this unit can be

used in any formula, handling power in excess of 500 bhp.

This ultra high performance filter was originally designed for use

on Cosworth DFV and derivatives in F3000, but it's excellent

design has found many V8 and 4 cylinder applications. It is

lightweight and the three button fasteners retaining the filter to

the aluminium base are accessible from above. The filter is

entirely fire-safe, the internal foam being self-extinguishing.

It should be noted however, that these are pure race filters and

we do not recommend them for normal road use.

The JC71,a shorter version of the popular JC70 air filter, has

been designed to give the same performance but for

applications where space is at a premium.

This simple, light, but robust air filter comes complete with

brackets and clips for a quick-release attachment to the

Weber DGV or DGAV carburettors originally used in Formula

Fords, but now very popular with the F2 Stock Car formula.

The multi-layer foam filter materials are similar to those in

the MEGAFLOW ranges and are therefore fire-retardant.

The filter is rated for up to 350bhp, so it has plenty of

capacity in reserve.

It can also be used with any of the DGAR, DGAS or DGR

ranges of carburettors.

Our vast knowledge gained in the motorsport industry has allowed usto tackle the very precise requirements for motorcycle air filters.We have developed specialist laminate foams to allow correct breathingand appropriate dust filtration for these high revving engines.

ITG have a comprehensive range of applications and are constantlyseeking new applications to further develop the range and bringnew products into the motorcycle marketplace.

Bridging the gap between two and four wheels and

developing filters that work is not as simple as it sounds.

Motorcycle filters tend to have much less surface area than

cars – requiring a high flow filter with minimal pressure

drop, a filter that will retain the essential dust filtration

levels, keeping your engine from premature wear and

maintain performance.

ITG have the experience to offer solutions for these factors

and we work closely with motorcycle race teams to achieve

the ultimate performance from our air filters.

This technical understanding and customer focus

has allowed ITG to successfully gain contracts with leading

motorcycle companies to supply manufacturer approved

ITG are used to producing one off bespoke designs for

motorcycles which have been converted from carburettor to

fuel injection and often we can take one of our stock filter

designs and modify it to suit the new arrangement. We also

produce individual or dual trumpet socks to suit many of the

old 2 stroke applications like RD500’s and also many

V twin applications.

The manufacturing and shaping of foam filters into obscure

shapes is very easy compared to pleated cotton gauze or

paper filters. This means that we can produce a filter for

any application where there is sufficient space – with no

specialist tooling and rapid lead times, keeping costs to a

minimum.

If you have a requirement for any motorcycle air filter,

please contact us and we will be glad to assist.

In one example, we looked at an original pleated paper filter

having a weight of 224 grams. The competitor’s equivalent

cotton gauze filter weighed 345 grams. ITG were able to

produce a filter with higher airflow and retain the dust

filtration requirements, but with a weight of only 84 grams.

Accessories

Engine crankcase breathers

Available in three sizes, these vent to air breathers are

designed for use where a recirculating breather is not used

or required. The breathers simply push over the end of the

engine breather hose and are held in place with the quick

connect clamp provided.

Rampipe/trumpet filter socks

These socks are designed to fit over rampipes and are

available in two sizes for single socks, and one size for

double socks to fit up to 45 DCOE or others carb with

90mm port spacings.

They are to be used where no other solution is available

due to lack of fitting space. We can produce custom made

socks, so if you have a particular requirement, please

contact us.

All foam air filters should be oiled to provide the best filtration performance. The recommended oils are specifically formulated for foam air filters. When the oil is correctly applied, it provides a tacky coating over all the surfaces of the structure of the foam filter. As dust particles pass into the filter, they collide with the foam structure and are then retained in the oil coating. The oil coating also flows around the dust particles to continue to present a tacky surface for further dust particles.

If foam air filters are used in a ‘dry’ or non-oiled state, they still provide filtration of larger dust particles, and they will also retain most smaller dust particles due to an electrostatic effect. Electrostatic dust retention is much less reliable than oil retention, so if a filter is used without oil, it is very important to monitor whether any dust is passing through the filter, and to clean the filter frequently. Some dust, which can potentially damage the engine, may pass through a filter used in dry condition.

ITG will not provide any warranty when a filter is used in dry condition, or has not been maintained according to instructions.

There is a popular misconception that oil from air filters can become detached from the filter, pass through the air, and contaminate a MAF unit (mass air flow meter). Oils designed specifically for foam air filters are too viscous to become airborne and migrate onto MAF units. All pre-oiled ITG Profilters have the correct amount of oil applied and will not cause any issues with MAF units.

Under no circumstances use cotton gauze filter oil, engine oil or any other oil not specifically manufactured for foam air filters.
