Better Weekdays and HealthyMeGraduate from Mock Angel Program
With two additional graduates in December, ITEN ends 2014 with13 new graduates, exceeding the previous high number of eight, set in 2013. There are now 38 graduates since Yurbuds led the way in 2008. All of thegraduates are listed on our website at http://itenstl.org/mockangelprogramgraduates/#. Better Weekdays (www.betterweekdays.com) isa SaaS career management platform that enablesuniversities to improve job placement outcomes oftheir graduates, and hiring companies to find talentwith the right cultural fit. The company previously participated in CapitalInnovators. Led by cofounder and CEO Chris Motley, Better Weekdays issigning up universities and producing revenue. The company worked withBryan Garcia as their EIR (entrepreneur in residence). HealthyMe (www.healthymehub.com), also a Capital Innovatorsgraduate, is led by CEO Mary Louise Helbig andfounder, Dana Fowler. It is an mHealth companythat enables patients to manage critical transitionpoints in care, while reducing hospital readmissionrates. The company has trials underway with majorhospitals demonstrating very compelling success rates. Mary Louise Helbigwas HealthyMe's EIR until she was invited to become the company's CEO. We congratulate our two new December graduates; all 13 of our 2014graduates; and the entire impressive and growing group of Mock Angelgraduates since the beginning of the program. ITEN companies are admitted to Mock Angels based upon an onlineapplication demonstrating their readiness and a validated business model. The program focuses on preparation for investor due diligence and thecreation of a compelling investor pitch. It involves in depth direction fromITEN's mentors and EIRs. Graduates of the program are introduced to about100 investors and investors groups who have expressed interest in ITEN'sdeal flow.

21st/22nd 2015 ITEN is proud to announce the first StudentHackathon in St. Louis, MO. We are partnering withMilOSS Midwest and others to bring this event toTRex. The hackathon focuses on directing localstudents to work on defensethemed webapplications. This will be a competition with two agegroups: highschools (under eighteen) and collegestudents (eighteen to twentythree) with prizesawarded to the winners. This is a unique opportunity to network withindustry founders as well as emerging talent. TheDepartment of Defense, industry executives,academic leaders, and technical mentors from someof the fastest growing startups will be there. Along with the Startup Internship Program, theStudent Hackathon is part of ITEN's commitment toencourage more students to get involved incomputer science and to retain more tech talent inSt. Louis. Crowd at Venture Café!
by Francis Chmelir December 11th marked ITEN's second month of our unique monthlyeducation and networking event 2ndThursday at Venture Cafe, in theCambridge Innovation Center @4240Duncan avenue in the Cortex district.In November, ITEN's 2nd Thursdayevent set the attendance record todate, attracting just over 300attendees. This past Thursday ITENbroke its own record with over 340attendees during the 38pm timeframefor 2nd Thursday.ITEN delivered some greatprogramming into the evening'sagenda. Our guest speaker was Curtis Davis, CoFounder and COO ofMulticoreWare (http://www.multicorewareinc.com). Curtis is a serialentrepreneur and not just in tech as you could see from his presentation. Hefollowed his thought process and career track of starting ventures even as ayoung boy. It was a fascinating glimpse into how a serial entrepreneur viewspotential opportunities. In addition to Curtis, ITEN held a panel discussion, previewing what is sure tobe an informative 2014 Year in Review, Startup Tech Report. The Report isset to come out 1st quarter of 2015, but many trends and overall reactions tothis past year were shared. The panel, moderated by ITEN Director ofOperations, Francis Chmelir, included two Entrepreneurs in ResidenceMaryLouis Helbig and Michael Gaddis, as well as ITEN Executive Director JimBrasunas. One thing that will be clear in the new Startup Report, is that therewill be a new Number #1 Company in the annual ITEN Top Ten list. That isbecause Yurbuds, the winner the past 2 years, was acquired in 2014 in agreat exit for the leadership at that successful, homegrown startup. Not allthe data is in yet but a few possibilities were discussed last week.

Panelists were also asked to state what predictions they had for 2015.Among the answers given, included more successful exits in 2015, thedevelopment of more funding options for startup entrepreneurs, as well asthe beginnings of a robust collaboration between corporations and startups inthe St Louis region. Attendees at the 2nd Thursday were encouraged to offertheir own predictions for what is in store for 2015, by creating a short videobeing filmed by HECTV or just tweeting out their predictions for the newyear. Many did take advantage of this and we will be checking in periodicallyto see what may become reality in 2015.
