ITEM ON THE FLY
Adding item records to the database for temporary use.
A Temporary record is created when
During checkout it may become necessary to create an “ ITEM ON THE FLY”
You will receive a notification from the system stating “Checkout Error: Item not found in the Catalog”
Select OK to acknowledge the notification
Begin the process of attaching the item to a temporary record.
From the Items wizard group
Select “Add Item“ Wizard
All items created on the fly are given the Title “Item on the fly” so that’s the
record we want
Search For: ITEM ON THE FLYINDEX: TITLELIBRARY: HOU-LMS
Click “Search”
XX(does not mater what is in the parenthesis) – HOU-LMSYou can attach the item to a record that displays the call number as “XX” and the home library as “HOU-LMS”
Select an LMS Record by clicking once to highlight
Click “Add Item” at the bottom of the screen
Filling the BlanksAn item template based on an LMS item record will display, and this is where we input info about the specific itemItem IDItem Type
Home Location: CATALOGINGItem Library: HOU-LMS
Number of PiecesCheck box to Shadow Item
In the extended information areaChoose to enter a CIRCNOTEStandard Format is: CALL# “TITLE”/AUTHORClick “Save”
Click “Close”

Check item out to customerCirculation note with specific item information will displayClick “Close”
All items created on the fly are given the title “Item on the fly”
The Title will display as “ITEM ON THE FLY” on the customer's receipt
Checking IN an Item on the fly
Once the item has been scanned the circ note will display routing information to “Cataloging”
Click “OK”
Attach transit slip
Place item with other items for delivery
